I think the best compliment they could have gotten came from an Italian opera singer/reactor who said she not only forgot they weren't opera singers but she forgot they weren't Italian. Years ago Rob's vocal coach said he could have a huge career in opera. Thank God he joined HF
@@marywayzee Unfortunately I don't remember her name. I think it's probably because it's the one and only time I watched one of her reactions but it might be the girl whose RUclips channel is called Training Voice
I always hear how Rob “doesn’t look like” that country tenor should be coming out of him. He looks like THIS voice should be coming out of him. They both did a great job, but it really strikes me how Rob sounds like a *completely different singer.* In an amazing way! Good heavens.
What really gets me is that this project was Austin's idea.... He asked Rob to be part of it and in spite of a 15 year hiatus from his classical training in university, Rob and Austin were very brave to take this on. It was a brilliant idea- truely inspired.
This was so ingenious how they made a duet out of a solo aria! Both voices are incredible. You should react to Austin singing Bring Him Home from Les Misérables. I was in tears at the end. What he did at the end of the song was positively angelic! I was in tears at the end!
Great reaction sista❤.I laugh when I see the genuine response to hearing my boys "SINGING",OPERA.,not trying. Just stunning. Rob trained a little in classical music.I Just adore Homefree. #Homefree
I cried the first time I heard it, & didn't even realize I had tears running down my face until the song was over, it touched me so deep. It still gives me chills. ❤️
There's the face of surprise and shock and amazement. Rob who study opera in college but hasn't sung it in 15 years and Austin has a musical theater background.
Rob has an opera background and Austin has a degree in musical theater. In fact, that was his main style when the guys met him; he was part of the entertainment crew on the cruise ship Home Free were guesting on. When one of the group (Matt?) decided to retire to be closer to his family a little while later, they contacted Austin. That was around 2012-13, a year or a bit less before their appearance on the Sing-Off.
In fact they kept Austin hanging around waiting for 6 months after first saying there might be a vacancy. He didn't take on other engagements since he didn't know when they might contact him, and worked as a waiter the whole time. I think he joined them full time a bit later than you say, because I remember someone saying he'd only been with them for a few months before the Sing Off (which personally I think he won for them, not to take away from the other members' performances). From the point of view of career, Austin might have been advised not to sign a contract after the Sing Off - rumour has it that he was approached by various people outside the a capella world. But he seems happy just singing with friends.
Having watched countless reactors view this video, yours is one of the best reactions. Shocking, n'est-ce pas? Given the word 'try' in the title, and Home Free's comedic abilities, some expected some kind of spoof or lip syncing. This project was Austin's idea and took some major encouragement to get Rob on board. Rob, surprising us with the deep, rich voice, had studied and performed opera about 15 years ago. Austin had studied a bit of opera along with his musical theater training. After this, you'll never see these two quite the same now being aware of their 'hidden' talent. Given the overwhelmingly positive response the guys have gotten to this performance one can only hope they will consider doing even more, as you requested. And, yes, some of us would love to see them enlist the other Home Free guys. Surely, Adam can do violin or whatever is called for!
Yes this is wow, wow and wow.. This is insane. It is extremely good. Fantastic. Both are doing great. But Rob, I'm perplexed. His voice is just magical, so rich, so warm and powerful. Chills just ran through my body. It flows into my heart. For me he will be able to stand with the greatest of opera singers. It's not often that I listen to songs by opera singers 5 times and more in a row. But here it is. Of course I hope that both will always continue to do Home Free, but I wouldn't think it wrong that such "trips" are made more often. Opera, country, ballads, soul etc. I think anything is possible..
The first time(s) I watched this I sat with a huge grin on my face and tears running down my face. I still smile and get teary when I see someone else check it out the first time, brings all the happiness back. Our boys can do anything and do it beautifully
Love your reaction. I think Austin still sounded like Austin, but Rob sounded completely differently than what we're used to hearing with Home Free! Keep up the great reactions!
He's got his podcast series, The Avid Indoorsmen, which also needs quite a lot of preparation, as well as a young family. I'm not sure he has the time.
LOVED your reaction, Lisa!💖 The first time I saw this was with Lyle on Patrol Nation! He played the video 3 times & he & I both cried all 3 times! I'm not a big opera fan but how can you not love Pavarotti singing this? I've commented many times that professional opera singers would either be proud or jealous of Rob & Austin because the pros spent their entire lives training & performing opera, then two a cappella singers who sing everything EXCEPT opera come along & perform this like pros! We all knew they were incredibly talented but opera is a whole different "ballgame"! 🤗&😘from SE Tennessee, USA!😊
I wish people could understand that in the 100 years or so since Puccini wrote this aria, thousands of tenors (and others) have sung it. People talk as if Pav recorded the original lol. He's not even the best recording, there are minor technical errors and he'd got into a habit of belting instead of singing. What he did have was the best PR team in the music world lol. People in the US also have a strange idea of what opera is, thinking that it's only used for the Italian style. The Italian operas which that style of singing is suitable for are not so popular these days and opera has changed and modified. Now a voice like Austin's bright lyric tenor is in demand, being more flexible in the styles it is suitable for. In fact there are Italian operas which need a lyric tenor for romantic leads. I'm sure Austin's college tutors were aware of all this when they pressed him to continue studying for opera.
And yet ... in the many reactions to this piece, it's when Austin is singing that most mutter about goosebumps, or about how beautiful it is. I'm a great believer in immediate reactions rather than what they think they ought to say, and what they are hearing is the "spinto" (incisiveness), a rare quality, which is one of the things that led one reactor to declare that Austin could have made a fortune if he hadn't decided to abandon further study and turn his back on any form of opera/music theatre.
I know they both have great, perfect voices, but this blows me away. It's phenomenal. Rob could have a career in opera, though I hope he didn't. 😅 Great reaction, thanks Lisa!
I can see that it takes your breath away. Yeah, I thought I was going to be rickrolled and then this happened. Rob studied opera in college but that was years ago. Austin studied musical theater. They were so good and they clean up nice too. Hahaha. Great reaction Lisa!🥰
Isn’t it awesome??!! Tim just put out a video for one of the songs on his Do-wop album called Since I Can’t Have You. It’s a 50s song. It’s all Tim making all the music. It’s so good!! Great reaction! 😊
Great Reaction! I have never been a fan of opera except maybe some Andrea Bocelli & a few others. But I have always appreciated the talent it takes to sing opera. I was pretty impressed with Rob & Austin's version of Nessun Dorma. I have heard this famous song done by Pavarotti. I think I was more surprised by Rob's range & powerful delivery than even Austin's. Pretty good for a couple of country boys! Nice to see them dressed up in suits & looking classy.
Loved your reaction. I had a similar reaction of disbelief when I heard it. Rob had operatic training when s student at the University of Minnesota. He hadn't sung opera in fifteen years until Austin convinced him to sing opera again.. Austin had a full scholarship at the University of Oklahoma in musical theater. They were very nervous about releasing the video. They weren't sure what people's reactions would be. One suggestion for Home Free Christmas music is " Children Go Where I Send Thee.". They sing it with Kenny Rogers soon after they won The Sing Off. It shows their various abilities. At the end, Kenny explains how he learned of Home Free. It's a bittersweet moment in light of Kenny's later death.
Okay, what can't they sing genre wise???? Just WOW!!!!!!!! 🍧 icing with a cherry on top!!!!! Amazing doesn't even begin to define how I feel about these guys..................

I am so not a fan of opera, but I've been so drawn into Rob and Austin's Nessun Dorma that I can't get enough of it. So incredible! I've watched this video 100s of times! Great reaction!
LOL! That would be the best Rick Roll ever! After spending months convincing Rob to do this, Austin heard Rob's solos and went back to redo his because Rob's was sooooo good. I love how Rob is more traditional opera while Austin went for a crossover style. Both are beautiful and well respected styles. Great reaction!

Yours is the best reaction I've seen to this. So genuinely astounded, such good observations. And I absolutely cracked up (with you) about getting Rick-rolled! About your comment that they should do an opera album: I'd like to see them make an opera! Can you imagine what kind of response that would get??
With Rob singing opera and Austin singing a classical cover, it makes a very nice crossover...doesn't it? If Rob had chosen to follow the operatic path, I'm sure he would have had a celebrated career. And Austin would have done well on the musical theater circuit. I'm glad they both chose to do acapella.
I felt the exact same way you do. I couldn't stop saying Oh My God either. Rob was classically trained in college. Austin also had classical training and musical theater training in college too. This was all Austin's idea he had to really talk Rob into it. Rob had not done Opera in about 15 years. Truly enjoyed watching your reaction to this song.

Rob studied Classical Opera in College and Austin background is in musical theater. Outstanding performance.
Rob's voice has such a warmth to it. Austin's is brighter and sharper...Rob's is like butter.

You most definitely DID NOT get Rick-rolled. This performance is a great answer to "is there anything they can't do?" So far.....NO
Talented people entertain they are top level, typical country boy saying hold my beer and watch this… lol.
country meets opera
Yes, life is about making faces to stuff instead of doing stuff.
If the group did decide to produce opera as a full 5, Adam has a lovely tenor voice, there needn't be any percussion to include him.

Rob has an opera degree and Austin has a musical theater degree.
