Any chance of doing another "Red Storm Rising" video. How about doing the "Frisbee's of Dreamland" section where they take out the Soviet AEW's and then attack the Red AF aircraft on the W/E German border.

the sr 71 had a process to get to mach 3 , from memory you climbed to altitude like a normal jet liner , nice and sedate , then tankered , after that you accelerate and did a maneuver called a dipsey where you make a series of dives and climbs , so like you tank at 25000 ft dive to mach 1 climb to like 40000 ft then dive 10000 ft and a final climb to altitude where you get mach 3 , like i said i cant remember the actual numbers its been like 20 years sine i even looked at the cover of take off magazine where i read this but thats the general jist of it ,,, you cant treat her as a normal fighter

@@grimreapers Dunno bro, you can see you had jester set your radar to +30% elevation that's max deflection upwards. Most likely it's probably that the SR-72 moved so fast the comparatively (to more modern jets) slow azimuth sweep of TWS auto meant its position was so vastly different in between each sweep the radar just disregarded it as an impossible target.
Pure conjecture I know but it's a cold war radar vs an object travelling 3/4x the speed of the missiles the radar even launches, it never really had a chance.

MSFS 2020 has the Maverick Darkstar from the movie and it's a Mach 10 jet. It's very hard to fly. If you take your attention away for just 30 seconds you will be miles off course. I have taken it to 200k feet and it's quite a ride. I could fly from LA to NY in 20 minutes (I think) You really need a global map to fly something that fast. In DCS the largest map can be traversed in just a few minutes. Cool video though!

As someone who's played 1000s of hours of Kerbal Space Program I loved this. You're basically shooting something in space which is going orbital speed around the scaled down planet.
I still gotta point out that the F-15 with an ASM-135 ASAT could shoot down a satellite IRL, so i think it could absolutely shoot down the slower SR-72 at a lower altitude since maneuvering isn't much of an issue.
Also Patriot wasn't designed for this. You'll have to get with CH to make an AEGIS BMD and THAAD to get something designed to do that.
    Edit: AEGIS, not ARGIS

Yes, definitely. The SR-72 can't manouvre at that altitude and neither can the missile (much) so the only guaranteed kill is to get in front of it. One missile "air-to-air" missile was developed and tested that would certainly have been able to shoot this target down: the ASM-135 ASAT (anti-satellite) missile. The 2,600 pound missile had an operational range of 403 miles, a service ceiling of 350 miles (1.8 million feet!), and a top speed of Mach 12. In 1985 a specially modified F-15A, dubbed the "Celestial Eagle" launched an ASM-135 while in a 65 degree zoom climb at Mach 1 through 38,000 feet and destroyed a satellite orbiting at an altitude of 345 miles.

@@benjaminshropshire2900 Barely 1/3, and really that has nothing to do with the Coriolis effect. Prevailing winds will have a much greater effect, for one thing. Also, the plane would have to be aloft for a long time flying in a straight line to notice any flight path deviation due to Coriolis forces.

@@rapid13 at 1/3 of orbital velocity, the apparent weight of an object in level flight should be just over 11% lower. I'd call that significant. And I'm mostly interested in if they include the effects. I'm not saying it's a bug if they don't.

I'd bet it's not just a math issue - if the missile should be going up and then coming down on the target, how likely is it that there's simply not enough travel time at their speeds to accomplish the maneuver. Could also be why they're flying straight at it, only way they'd have a chance at even getting to it.

I've got a viewer request for you: last night my city was attacked with a bunch of shaheds, and that got me wondering: could you intercept and destroy a flock of those drones with a bunch of helicopters having side door gunners like mi-8? Conaidering jets can't quite sustain the speeds to effectively stay on the tail of the drone, could you use mi-8 to navigate to interception course and do a "drive-by", since mi-8 can both exceed the speed of the drone and feel quite comfortable maintaining the speed of the drone?
