Incredible performance
It just baffles me how Torvil and Dean aren't getting first place in every performance because nobody can compare to them or ever live up to their high quality.
The skating world wasn’t ready for them in the first year or two because they “ broke the rules” . Thank goodness they finally acknowledged how great they were.
The judging is biased. They should had more recognition. There is only one Jane and Chris. He is a genius at choreography, music, interpretation,costumes and more.
A perfect stop right in front of the judges. I could never run out of superlatives for them!
Torville & Dean far and away above gold. They were platinum.
I saw them skate live, and no-one comes up to their standard of skating, even today in 2022. They are pure magic on the ice!

Never seen this programme before so thanks for posting. They certainly weren't afraid of trying something new and this showed promise of what would follow. I agree with the commentators "stop/start" irritation, they soon got over that hurdle. Little did we know how they would develop over the next few years.

If anyone is ever able to locate T&D's OSP (original set pattern) dance at this 1980 Worlds, please post! There's no known footage of that particular OSP that I know of (to "Little Street in Singapore"), and they actually had two major slips here at the Worlds.
I believe they had two major slips at the Olympics in the OSP but were good here… but, like you I have NEVER seen the 1980 OSP!
@@ddjr6673 According to the Karen Barber and Nicky Slater bio from 1985, the major errors in the OSP happened at (1980) Worlds, not the (1980) Olympics (Karen and Jayne roomed together for both competitions and K said J was quite distraught that night). It was a bigger deal happening at Worlds (which always takes place a month after the Olympics) because they had finished 5th at Olys and 4th at Worlds - had they not had those errors they would have won bronze .
The changes and stops may bother the female announcer but I think she is trying to hard to find something critical to say.

After they sold their souls, they ranked higher.
They have never sold their souls. They just had the opportunity to skate full time for the next four years through sponsorship - before they were working full time and skating part -time. That is why they could rank higher. They are good people.
Love Torvill and Dean... do find the US announcer offensive when saying Jayne's name last for the intro. It's a US thing and I have never got used to it. The Brits, French, and other nations put the Ladies' name first and man's name second. But Button stuck to the US style of putting the ladies name last. It grates every time I hear it and see it done, and I want to say, 'learn some manners, ladies first'! It does speak to a large cultural US attitude of women being inferior to men. NOT SO. It's blatant disrespect. European men treat women very differently from Americans. Just have to say it... because I'm sick of it. Very bad manners, and systemic disregard! Have never been able to bring myself to date since my divorce for this reason. I find it sickening. In Europe women are equals and in the US we are secondary, regarded as inferior. NOT OK!

Hey I am American and I find your last sentence ridiculous, I am in the agriculture industry and I am as equal as any man because I prove myself every day right along with my male colleagues. I have never felt like a second class citizen in the US I had to go to to the Middle East for that!

These two were intended by fate to dance together. What an honour to have lived through those years and followed them and to still be able to watch and admire them on youtube. 💖
Janice Taylor. Big time. They are beautiful together and even their names were meant to be together - they click perfectly as part of the same jigsaw puzzle. I was around back in the day and am just as excited to see them perform today as I felt back then. It is certainly an honour to see their performances again on RUclips ❤️. Just a creative talented pair. Simply the best!
Totally agree here, isn't it amazing how there lives are so synchronised, Jayne married an American guy and now Chris lives there having also done so? ( American lady) most people would love their life plan like that 😊 huge fan x
