My favorite part of owning an automated litter box so I don't have to touch cat shit is having to disassemble an automated litter box so I can get covered in cat shit. Thanks Litter Robot!

@1:20 this lady is telling you to clean by sticking a q-tip, but she’s not even touching the piece with the q-tip. I want to see someone actually try and clean this from your crew, this spot is not easily accessible without some disassembly. It also needs to be a used one, so you can get covered in shit like the rest of us while try to fix this.
Everyone who’s commenting on how useless this feature is doesn’t have a 17lb cat that loves to try and ride in this while it’s moving. My only recommendation is to have the plastic cover be removable so you can get to the sensor easier. Also incredibly happy that owners can fix these themselves instead of having to ship it for servicing or buy a new one.
This safety needs to be removed. I just took mine apart, replaced the sensors and it’s still flashing yellow. My cats never hang out in the box. This is a worthless feature
the sensor bar (the entire sensor) must be replaced, i had this issue TWICE in the same machine. and ONCE in another one. The SENSOR BOARD seems to stop working normally after some time. if you replace the entire thing, it works again. If you can, never buy from this company again. the machines seem to be of poor quality.
Whose great idea was it to put metal in contact with ammonia filled moisture and poop particles. This was honestly the dumbest place to put it and it’s even harder to get to, to clean. I’ve had mine since 2021 and after barely 3 years it hasn’t been working properly for 1 of them. I’m never going to upgrade unless this design flaw gets fixed. I just ordered the kit to replace them and it looks like a nightmare to do.
Very useful video thank you! Flipped mine upside down and found that the metal tabs were not touching each other Love this litter box. This is the first issue in two years!
I’ve owned my LR3 for a year now. Just got my first error. I didn’t even have to disassemble it to fix it. Just took the litter drawer out and jiggled the pinch sensor from the bottom. Clumped up litter fell out. Turned it back on and she’s back to normal. Best purchase still.
The people commenting that this is a useless feature, I have to assume they say the same thing about their car's seat-belt, and their house's fire alarm. There have been stories recently about cats being injured and killed by cheap amazon litter boxes. I feel better knowing that this safety feature is there, just in case one of my babies gets curious about what's in that hole. We've had our Litter Robot for almost 3 years, and it's close to being the best $500 I've ever spent. This is the first time I've had this specific problem. There is a related issue where, if you don't empty it when it tells you to, the overfull litter can stick to the sensor, and continue to tell you it's full after you empty it. This has happened a few times, but it's our fault for not emptying it, and just hitting the reset button repeatedly for an extra day or two. Still, we love this machine.

Customer service, please dont respond to my comment, im looking to vent and that is all
I used those before and they were junk. The litter robot is 100% better in many ways. My cats would track the litter from those trays everywhere and they stunk to high heaven.
My blood pressure goes up just thinking about the pinch sensor. Just replaced them and it still doesn't work. It has been an absurd, long-running nightmare.
As an engineer I will say that there are so many terrible design figures on this device. One of the worst ones is definitely this stupid anti-pinch feature - seriously, leaving metal contacts open to get clogged with FOD and sit in moist ammonia-laden air that can cause corrosion on the metal contacts? Like no one on your design or reliability (ha, like you have _those_ kind of Engineers working for you) engineering teams thought to shield a critical sensor like this from sources of interference? Then the fact that the only way to clear this issue for my maintenance point of view is to completely disassembled the cat s*** full system to try to clear a fault on a sensor that really shouldn't even exist in the first place. Does anyone's cat actually hang out inside this thing? I suspect it is actually an additional mostly-useless feature added because the design engineering team could not get the cat presence sensor at the top actually working completely correctly and needed a backup to make sure it didn't trap a cat by turning before the cat was done; but even then, it is again useless because no cat is going to sit there when that thing starts turning, even if they are still going they are going to pinch it off and bolt. So why does this commonly-clogging functionally-useless critical sensor even exist except to make owners frustrated? There are many other ways to program in checks for rotation jamming, this is not that.
I had this problem after cleaning. It's really hard to see! But I used an old toothbrush to brush it, some dust came off, and it's working again. Yay! The wires look kind of corroded (how's that happen?!?) and I'm wondering if I should buy a replacement part so I have it handy if the problem happens again? Hmmmm.
For corroded metal contacts, dremel fitted with a sanding attachment generally does the trick. Wire corrosion isn't something I've encountered during 10 years of ownership, so I can't advise on that. I'd probably try replacing the wires first, buy replacement parts if I had to.
So the issue I found with mine was the sensor bars got "pulled down" from their original position. I pushed them back up after cleaning them and it seems to work currently. Will update if it doesn't 😅
Our cat and I love our seven year old litter robot series ll. Once a year I remove the "globe" clean it inside and outside and carefully dust and clean any litter in the base unit. I emailed or messaged (can't remember) Litter Robot within hours got a response and a phone number of a real person who was very helpful. It was the pinch sensor contacts.
