When I was little the ticket office was still open and there was a set of stairs at the Belfast end of the platform. They are bricked up but still there. We walked down there to the ‘drive’ a circular courtyard below the station where the carriages used to turn and pick up passengers for the Clandeboye Estate (long before). The path still goes up towards the estate but is now cut in half by the Elfast/Bangor dual carriage way. Going in the other direction it’s a shortcut to the beach. Only charged for in the summer months by the way, that didn’t last long.
Clandeboye avenue is a favourite walk & cycle. Less ornate, but we look forward some day soon to your visit to the next stop up the line, our home stop at Carnalea.

Who knew? A bit of local history thrown in. Interesting.
One of my favourite walks bar none
From there to Helen's Tower and back gets my personal thumbs up as well. Just bring a flask and change of shoes

I remember going there and then they suddenly starting charging people to go on the beach.
