I remember when my district used to be on a ten month pay scale. The first check came in October and the last one came in July. You lit tons of candles and prayed and hoped that no major expenses appeared in August and September. School districts also accept a certain amount ofyears of service from teachers who are coming from other districts. Thanks for your presentation. Take care.

Teaching definitely isn't for the money alone, but it varies state to state. Credentials earned over time can help someone earn a higher salary and grow as an educator such as a masters, second language, certifications, etc. I'm getting my license in spring 2021 in WI, and I believe the starting salary is 44,000 in our state. I think that a big reason for teacher’s low salary is based on the past. In the 19th century there was a teacher shortage and women we’re going to college more so they ended up in teacher jobs often. Because there was a big difference in salary between men and women the lower salaries and “lesser importance” kinda stuck to now. Of course there’s a lot more too it and more reasons to consider but I think that’s certainly a reasonable one and it’s really sad

    • @HighVibeTeaching

Great question and if I’m being honest, I would say.... just buy things as you need them for your first year. I bought too much stuff I didn’t use because I thought I needed it.... but I’m actually I didn’t use it.
The more months, years, weeks you teach, the more you will know what you need.
I recommend on focusing on your management plan and thinking of things you need for that. Like a turn in bin, pencil sharpener, paper bins, mailbox, file folder.
A must is a file folder system where you can out student work and information like a cum to pull when you have a conference. I put work in there that I want to show parents for conferences or just as a paper trail of contact for parents

I want to not only look at schools, but also possible districts that would be good to settle down in with my (also teacher) long term boyfriend/future husband. In my home town where I currently teach (antelope valley ) the teacher salary is pretty High and the homes/ cost of living is pretty cheap! 1 hour away from LA, 1 hour away from snow boarding, and it’s a nice place to raise a family! They are hiring like crazy and you’ll easily be able to find a job if you move down here. I personally am moving more Southern California, about an hour from San Diego called Marietta, Temecula, or Riverside. And those areas are a little more expensive, but comparable. I’m looking into buying a condo in Murrieta because it’s the same price as a house in the antelope Valley. Those are the places that I know for sure our family oriented and cheaper cost of living so you can do a lot more with your money. And again I make $70,000 a year as a teacher and my mortgage is 1600 a month which is pretty good for a house
