    Can I just say how brilliant the restraint you show on these reviews is? So many reviews they showcase guitars differently each time and just the fact you play the same diverse mix of examples on the different guitars makes it so much easier to really compare them. Cheers.

    I agree. I found one in Italy by surprise. When I came back I bought another one for my Celtic Music. It is an awesome guitar with
    the correct timbre (mid range the way I hear it). One of the best musical values one could ever hope to find.
    Your analysis is right on the mark!

    Bought this guitar largely based on this review, though loving the Guilds I've played helped. Had trouble finding this beauty in stores has been difficult, so the review helped me not only discover the guitar, but feel confident enough to order it without playing it first. Appreciate it :-)

      I ordered one, too. I was so impressed. For a Chinese-built guitar it is probably one of the best you can buy. Guild famously use a very well-know, high-quality factory in China that specializes in wooden musical instruments, and it shows. The same guitar would be $1200 made in the USA and not any better quality (US made guitars have seen a quality decline in recent years, just look at Gibson and Martin). Guild have really outdone themselves. I will be playing this guitar until I die.

    Ive played Taylors, Martins, ect. I knew from the first strum that my guild was better than anything I'd played. OM 240 CE I have roughly 500 hours on it.... Absolute perfection. Zero complaints thus far. Comfort, clarity, appearances. Love everything. Very loud as well so loud that I named her Gabby hahaha

    Tony, congratulations for the channel!!! I was a little sad when you left the music Villa channel but yours is showing to be way better!!!
    I'm a guild guy and I hope to see more reviews of their guitars here specially the USA made ones. the Westerly ones are awesome but the Americans are simply fantastic! thanks for the great content and cheers from Brazil!👌

    I have this instrument but in the 12 string, it's a very full, mellow sounding, guitar. I purchased it on a whim & was really surprised when I realized a couple weeks after it's a product of China. Reading all the propaganda & watching the sales videos on these one would assume they where still made in the states. I feel they'd be more accepted if they just made it perfectly clear it's a Chinese made product instead of trying to pull the wool over our eyes. Having known this beforehand I'm not sure I'd have purchased it so it makes sense why they don't talk much about where it's made. For the money, which should be the giveaway, it's a very good deal though. It don't compare to the older Guild's from years ago but pretty close if you get a good one, like any guitar i guess. Just make it perfectly clear it's an import!

    • @EveningCrow

      Comparing it to a 15 series Martin, yeah there's a big difference. A more even match is the DRS line, as they're solid sapele (African mahogany) too. In that case, they're about the same price. The OM -20 would be more of an equivalent to an 000-15 as they're both mahogany (despite the obvious body difference).
      EDIT: thinking about it, a more obvious comparison is a Guild D-120/D-20 to a Martin DRS1/D-15.

    • @Southernguitar74
      @Southernguitar74 5 лет назад

      I won't buy one because it is made in China. The fact that Guild seems to hide the fact seems dubious. I will own a $300 Chinese guitar, maybe, but I can find a very nice used USA Guild for $700 (same price as this.model), or just a bit more. Just being honest.

They are especially loved amoung strummers. Heck.. Richie havens played a guild. And Steven stills favorite is his guild.

    I've had this guitar for many years and love it! I'm more of a mid-range price point guitar player. Could never find the reason to spend a ton of money on a guitar even though I've played for almost 30 years. I also recently bought an Orangewood Sage and love that too! The only issue I had with the Guild OM-120 is I'm not sure the saddle is bone. It started wearing at the B and high E and when I replaced it, there was no resonance compared to the replacement bone saddle.

    • @petertiffany8096
      @petertiffany8096 2 года назад +1

      I agree. I don't think these saddles are really bone (I guess could be some inferior bone). I have a D-1212 and there are channels on the saddle where most of the strings lay. I haven't seen this happen with my other bone saddles. I will be replacing it sometime soon. I am probably going to add a OM-120 to my collection, as my D-1212 is really impressive.

    I purchased this guitar, several weeks ago, after doing a good amount of homework versus other comparable models. All I can say is YES! The tone and balance you expect with an all ‘hog body are spot on and the price is excellent with a gig bag. Please take advantage of this wonderful guitar, I can’t wait for it to open up with further playing over time!

    You guys must be getting good OM-120. I've been having issues with mine and about to sell it. 1. It was shipped straight from Guilds warehouse. 2. The neck relief was so bad and the truss rod was super tight 3. I took it to a certified Martin luthier to have it adjusted, cost me over $100 to adjust, fix the very bad fret work, and lowered the action. 4. When I received the guitar the humidity of it was at 32%, not good. I contacted Guild about all the issues and to give it a month to see if it would get better. It didnt, I sent it back to have guild look at it, a month later the guitar showed up with no communication about anything. It's my fault I should've sent it back with the 1st month and bought a different brand. Never will I buy a Guild guitar again, they dont check the Chinese made guitar before they mail them out. It's my fault for trusting a once great company. Never again.

    Ok, after watching the video I think mahogany with phosphor bronze is the way to go with OM sized guitars, this guitar sounds almost like a dreadnought but you can slap some 0.11s and use it pretty much just for finger style. What microphone is that btw? The whole setup is incredible its not just the guitar I'm sure.

    Hi Tony, I am wondering what to choose between the M 120 and this OM 120. Since you played both models, can you tell what the main differences are in terms of feel and features (and which one you'd choose)? I like both fingerpicking and strumming. However, great review, I really like your work.

    I am a very happy owner of a Guild M-120.AKA the Nick Drake guitar. I have the cheaper version! The build is amazing. The workmanship is great. The letdown areas were, The Nu-nut saddle and bridge were changed, the same as the plastic Bridge pins! Replaced these to real bone. The open tuners really let it down also, the same ones this one has. I changed these to Schaller Grandtune Butterbean. I now have a guitar that rivals the Guild USA made M-20.

    I bought a Guild D-44M in 1974........maple sides and back (now golden in color), mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard, etc., etc., etc. While I have owned/played lots of guitars, none has matched my Guild in tonal quality and crispness. It's a shame Guild has outsourced its production.

      What major company hasn't? You can still buy American made Guilds. Your attitude toward a foreign build is your business, but a lot of players can't afford to be snobby and elitist, so these solid wood Waverly series guitars are a godsend.

    Hey Tony; really enjoy your acoustic guitar reviews. I've been considering carbon fibre and initially, Klos. I saw your review of the Klos travel guitar last year and it almost sold me.... until I stumbled upon Emerald. Eye candy, for sure... ergonomically friendly and they seem to have incredible tone as far as I can discern from the reviews. I just re-watched your review of the X-20 cocobolo. I ordered an X-10 in May, 2019 and should receive it by the end of August, early September. I thought long and hard about which model to choose and narrowed it down to the 10 and 20; the X-10 won out. Any plans to review this guitar in the near future?

    What is the microphone you are using?

      I'm pretty sure it's an oktava mk-012. i have one, stunning mic for the price and very good for acoustic guitars.

    Don’t know why you don’t say where the guitar was made? Its made in China correct?

    Beautifully sounding guitar, but beware! Mine had poorly seasoned wood on fretboard, which made it impossible to set up the strings height properly (a bump around 10th fret). Also the truss rod had limited action, which let my luthier set it up only for .12 gauge strings.

    Chinese-made import yes but the best bang for the buck in comparison of other American made mahogany guitars at $2000 ! Martin 00015M is a crap, you pay for the name on the headstock. Guild M20 is a bit cheap and have a very boxy sound. Sir ? Isn’t it a bit expansive for what it is ? Sure, but it’s american made ! It’s sad but that’s reality
