Went hiking in the Lake District twice with my Mountain Warehouse jacket and it let water in. It's fine throwing water balloons and spray guns but in a real world test of driving rain over an extended period of time my jacket failed. Also some of the stitching round the draw cord and hem fell apart. I'm now rocking a 'Mountain Equipment' jacket which cost more but has kept me dry at the top of Helvellyn and Scafell Pike in the very worst conditions I've ever experienced.
yeah i buy from mountain equipment for everything, costs, equipment and sleeping bags, the jackets kept me warm and dry over the 50+ monroes i’ve climbed in scotland
I think the biggest problem with this kind of testing is simply mountain warehouse isn't going to release a video of their product failing any tests. This is essentially not much more then a commercial. Its pretty obvious that a realistic testing situation would come from an outside source and using multiple brands as comparison...I actually have less trust for mountain warehouse now then I did before I saw this video.
It's good to see the water repellency tests. I'd also be interested to know how they fair with condensation underneath, which is where a lot of waterproof jackets can be a let down.
Lol, these mountain warehouse jackets are a joke. Even my down puffy will handle the amount of water they showed in this video (which was frankly mostly light misting) and it isn't waterproof at all. Let's see these jackets in a downpour or extended shower.
This is not a test. Anything with a bit of DWR coating can handle those tests. Real hard downpour rain will be the real test. I've owned many that claimed "waterproof" and can only handle misting and light sprays, but will wet through heavy/hard showers. Water pressure + length of time should be the real test. Remember guys, nothing is Truly waterproof and breathable EVER!!..maybe water resistant, but not proof. Those two words are like water and oil. They don't mix. And anything truly waterproof will be wet and clammy from sweat without proper venting. No difference from wearing a trash bag or sauna suit. My source: I actually test my equipment outdoors for a few days at a time. Sometimes in pouring rain. I wouldn't trust any of this on a several days backpacking trip and risk wetting out and freezing (except maybe the poncho.. notice they don't do the same bucket test for the other garments).
The hose test doesn't really work to test for waterproofness (it manages to pass older coats with worn leaking seams). I've got a more thorough test to check a jacket is waterproof. This test would give Mountain Warehouse customers added confidence your Glacier Extreme will keep them snug up Scafell Pike etc. I've had several Glacier Extremes which did me proud in the Lake District - one of the wettest parts of the UK! My older ones eventually wore out at the seams - not unusal after years of use / pack abrasion etc. It's always best to check your gear's still waterproof before you leave home. I test my new, and older coats, each season.
This is ok but doesn’t truly represent real life, caught outdoors hiking for hours. As a rule of thumb for anybody reading, you want at a minimum of 10000mm waterproofing for any real waterproof effect. Anything lower is fine for a few showers ( or a water spray bottle 🙄😂) bit won’t keep you dry in a downpour. That said, I own two mountain warehouse jackets and they have been great. I also carry a packable 20000mm light jacket though for if it’s really pouring. I do love this company, really decent stuff at pretty affordable prices. I have 3 of their sweat wicking/UV protection T-shirts and they’re the comfiest T-shirts I own. Keep up the good work guys.
I'm not being funny but you are testing waterproof jackets. Light spray is not a true indicator of waterproof. You should be showing downpours in wind etc. Your jackets are for outdoor activities. Sorry that is not a true test pretty pout really that proves nothing.
Ill take my fleece jackets anyday, I have a wide variety of them and a North Face Thermoball. My 300 Polartec weight fleece hoodie by Cabelas could handle all that, (water balloons might soak it) now try a downpour! Ill be soaked quicker than you but I wont freeze depending on the temp! I learned golfing with my Columbia rain coat that i bought for a match in heavy rain, left me cold and miserable! Tried a North Face Chimborazo hoodie next, yeah it didn't last long being a fleece hoodie but i wasn't miserable!
Typical specious and misleading video from a company trying to sell stuff. Spraying light mist and checking to see if you're still dry is just risible!

Wow how unprofessional reflects on the company tho

🤣
Get under a hose or a shower for real testing.... like when it rains. This video is surely a joke or some kind of infomercial.
