Coolest fact about this sketch: Ronnie Barker was held in such high esteem that a public memorial service was held for him at *Westminster Abbey.* The cross was carried in procession up the aisle accompanied by *four candles* instead of the required two, because the Dean of Westminster knew that everyone there with a sense of humour would get it.
You just saw them at the end, you should have watched that bit as Ronnie Barker gave his preferred ending 🤣. You need to watch more of them; they were the best in the business!
There's a shop in York called Barnitts and its a bit like this, you can get practically any hardware you can think of.
It the great writing of Ronnie Barker, a true master of comedy and writing it to. Comedy at it greatest but we have always had great comedy in the UK, you should watch the mastermind one pure comedy gold
This is my fav comedy sketch of all time , by , in my opinion the best comedy duo ever
A great reaction !
I used to work for a national D.I.Y chain and they actually used this as a staff training video to demonstrate how misunderstandings can arise and communication can break down.
Ronnie Barker, who wrote the majority of the scripts was always fascinated by language. He loved the play one words.
This is one of those classic British sketches up there with the "Dead Parrot" sketch from Monty Python. Ronnie Barker (customer) quite often played a spokesman delivering a tongue twister monologue, and Ronnie Corbett(shopkeeper) had a recurring sketch where he told a joke sitting in a big chair whilst going off on frequent tangents and anecdotes before finally arriving at the punchline.
Wishing you a prosperous new year! 💓💐
Sorry for this late reply! I didn’t see it! Thanks so much! I hope your year is going well!😆
“I don’t know if they’re comedians or actors”.
God I’m old.
Ronnie Barker would send in his scripts under the name Gerald Riley.
Nobody knew they came from Ronnie.
Ohhh that’s cool! Merry Christmas!😆
@Georgia "Like" Baker This was because he had no ego and didn't want Ronnie Corbett and the other writers picking his pieces because they wanted to curry favour with him. The Two Ronnies started way back in cabaret, then sort of fell together as friends and got various early TV comedy/satirical shows .
Ronnie did huge amounts of radio because he could do so many different voices. Corbett was the master of sit down, slow shaggy dog stories. Both had very successful sitcoms away from each other.
Barker was in arguably 2 of the greatest British sitcoms of all time, Porridge and Open All Hours.
And you are absolutely correct in the fact that they aren't comedians, but 1st rate comic actors.
Gerald Wiley :)
Written by Ronnie Barker (writing as Gerald Whiley).
They've both done their own acting series.
Ronnie Barker is a comedy genius, check out "Porridge" or "Open all hours".
A masterclass in comedy. You should watch more than Ronnie's masterclass in double entendre and acting and so much more. They should teach this in acting schools.........I dont what to be mean or mean. But yeah but no but 🤔🖤 (it a joke) have a subscribed 👍
This is my first exposure to The Two Ronnies and I love it! This has been a great Christmas season getting a video each day from you. Thanks, Georgia.
everyone of theirs is brilliant
Georgia did not show the ending when the "Labourer" who was Comedy Genius: Ronnie Barker was in The Studio with Ronnie Corbett and he explained about changing the unsatisfactory ending and you would have also seen the difference in appearance between his real self and the part he played. He wrote this script, as well:)
These Guys were the undisputed masters of word play.
Watch "Insurance against being Jewish" or "The Accountant" by them amongst many others:)
No, I don't know what you mean. Could you go through it again? : )) Good job, well done.
Merry Christmas and Thanks for all your reactions BUT you DID fail the test. lol
These clips are a certain length for a good reason and you, wrongly, assumed, that was the end bit the "Labourer" who was Comedy Genius: Ronnie Barker was in THe Studio with Ronnie Corbett and he explained about changing the unsatisfactory ending and you would have also seen the difference in appearance between his real self and the part he played. He wrote this script, as well:)
The Two Ronnies scripts were genius writing, and are amongst the best respected comedians from England. If you want to get into comedy or comedy writing, I'd strongly recommend you watch a lot more and take their craft onboard. Love your reactions :)
Ronnie Barker revealed years later that he didn’t like the ‘billhooks’ ending but went with it because he couldn’t think of any other ending. Then years later he finally came up with an ending he like. Instead of another man coming in to take over from the shopkeeper a large woman in an overall comes in instead looks at the list and asks the customer ‘All right, sir what kinda knockers are you looking for’
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 ❤ beautiful 😍 Georgia. Watching and listening to👀 you and your videos have brought me immense 😊 😃 joy and have been one of the highlights of the year.
Thanks so much joey!! I really do appreciate the donations, they are a huge help, especially as it’s Christmas time!! I hope you have a good Christmas! And I hope you continue to enjoy my reactions in the new year! Merry Christmas!😆🎄
@@GeorgiaLikeBaker You're welcome. I'm looking forward to your videos next year.
Like many others who have reviewed this clip, you stopped it too soon. After showing the obscure ‘Billhooks’ on the drawer front and the new assistant’s comment, giving a somewhat vague mental association with ‘Bollocks’ you assumed the clip to be finished. At that point, the video scene started to transition to a different brightly lit Studio Shot. Which, had you not stopped at that point. Would have shown the The Two Ronnies years later, when Ronnie Barker, who wrote the sketch revealed that he was unhappy with the ending. He then revealed a much improved ‘Punch Line’ to finish the sketch, which he had thought of later. Clever Wordplay often featured in their comedy, can I suggest you look up their: ‘Ponting Punting’ on RUclips. Learning that script must have been challenging!
Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/r56wlRsHric/видео.html
Good idea, I was going to write all of that! - another vote for Ponting Punting - and let's remind people that there was more than one Pispronunciation sketch (no-one reacts to this: ruclips.net/video/dxqColFlPBA/видео.html)
You're criticising the wrong person, she has a link to the end of the RUclips video she reacted to. The person that made that video ended it at that point. Since she never saw it before, how do you expect her to know the scene was longer?
Ronnie Barkers best know character was Fletch in Porridge Where he shares a prison cell with Gobber, the late Richard Beckinsale who sadlt died very young. Look out for some episodes of Porridge.
Thanks for the info! Merry Christmas!😆
@@GeorgiaLikeBaker Merry Christmas. Where in the West Country are you from?
We are a funny little group of people us brits, so many different accents and we barely understand each other. Like me a northerner i find it hard to understand some of the southern british accents for example cornwall. 😂❤
Another classic by the two Ronnies that i think you will love is 'crossed lines', being British helps make 'crossed lines' funnier because we know the brands mentioned in it, but i've seen American reactors love it to.
Speaking from the point of view of someone who had a family owned shop, it is actually the fault of the one behind the counter, not the slow customer. The man behind the counter is far too brusque, adversarial and impatient. That will make whatever problem that the customer has worse. My mother was like that and it ate away at our customers until we had none left. What he should have done first was what he did last. Ask to see the list and DISCUSS with the customer exactly what it was he wanted and it would have saved a great deal of stress, effort and time. In sha-sh-shaah-shopkeeping, psychology is king! - as Arkwright might say.
Their body language throughout this sketch is excellent! Ronnie Corbett Was a comedian, and Ronnie Barker was an actor but brilliant at Comedy. 'Porridge' is one of the all-time British comedies starring Ronnie Barker. Paired together, they were peak Saturday night viewing for nearly two decades. Look up their 'racing duck, crossword or other sketches.
Damn Geordie..
I've always liked The Two Ronnies. Such brilliant ☺️ and clever comedy. Some of their musical routines were very funny. Your reactions and comments were delightful.😉
Merry Christmas Joey! Thanks so much for the donations!😆🎄

I read your comment 3 times and I have no idea what
you are talking about, do you know yourself?
You are either semi literate at best, or English is your
second language, whichever it is, try to do better.
@@xaj1543 If you are dyslexic then it's KO...
I was informing Georgia that she missed the end of the clip which showed The main Actor/Writer of this script, Ronnie Barker explaining how he did not like the ending of it and, also, that he looked very different in the studio as to how he appeared in the script.
If you have further difficulty understanding basic English then don't hesitate as I shall rephrase it just for you...
@@Isleofskye
Re read your initial comment you moron, nobody would understand
it but you. I correct English mistakes because it is very important to
uphold a certain standard, even on forums. I do this because as a
holder of degrees in English and English literature I am compelled
to encourage and cajole the feeble minded (you) to at least aim a
little higher in their written communications.
You should watch them doing the pigeon one and the mixed phone call
If you like 'play on words' then you should watch more Two Ronnies
They do go one to explain a better ending
Hi Georgia, I'm in Canada, I remember watching a British show from the 70's that was so funny called Some Mother's Do Have 'Em, I'm sure your dad knows it.......Oh Frank ! Merry Christmas !
I’ll ask him! Thanks!😆Merry Christmas!🎄
@@GeorgiaLikeBaker If you waych it,remember the Actor:Sir Michael Crawford did ALL his own stunts including an extraordinary one on roller skates.
Merry Xmas 🎄
This is very good
Hellöööööw!
Hope you’re having a amazing day!
Thanks!😆 Merry xmas!🎄
After the passing of Ronnie Barker, the tall one, Ronnie Corbett made a special, partly in honor of his partner, called _The One Ronnie._ In it he wrote an updated version of this sketch.
ruclips.net/video/kAG39jKi0lI/видео.html
Also, Abbott and Costello had a not dissimilar sketch about a clerk dealing with annoying customers, though theirs was in a drugstore (chemist's).
ruclips.net/video/GMHPldTxYjk/видео.html
You stopped the video way too soon. You therefore missed the Two Ronnies explaining an alternate ending that might have worked better.
If you wanna see more two ronnies, id recommend the mastermind sketch or crossed lines sketch
Awesome!😆 Merry Xmas!🎄
I am from the US I'm pretty sure that these guys also do one when he comes in to buy a candies or cake or something like that.... I will look into it and report back here in a second EDIT: yeah it's the two ronnies the sweet shop sketch EDIT2: oh Georgia there's another one here that's funny too it's called "Comedy for ELT - Pronunciation Problems" its very funny
you must mean The Sweetshop one, its brilliant too

I know it's funnier to just deal with the customer's lack of eloquence with his pronunciation instead of just reading his list straight away.
You missed the ending
Georgia, this is a COMEDY sketch, we all know what he should have said or done to make himself understood, so I doubt whether anyone is impressed by your factual explanations......we watch it in order to have a laugh, not a lesson in the King`s English
A funny skit. I never heard of them. Thank for something a little different.
No worries! Merry Xmas!🎄

G'day Georgia , I think your mega intelligemce 🧐 yes Ma'am farethee well I'm off to eat me some chicken 🍗 🐔 🍗
Shame you didn’t let the video finish, also quit the interruptions it totally spoils the viewing experience just pause and talk but not to often .
That twas the end of the video, whether or not the person who posted it cut it off idk, but I don’t ever cut off the video, I always watch till the end. Thanks for the advice, merry Xmas!😆🎄
You cut it out before it finished and missed a crucial part of the background to this piece . And you say you do acting and you don't know the Ronnies ??????????
That’s where the video cut off, and no, generation before my time and have never been told about them!😆 Merry Christmas🎄
@@GeorgiaLikeBaker THanks Georgia. Watch another video of this and fast forward to the ending. to see if it has got an explanation from Ronnie Barker, the Actor, and Writer.
