  • One of Australia’s quickest 4-cylinder street cars, PJ’s Nissan Silvia has long proved the reliability of the SR20 engine when built right.
    Back in 2013 the car first dipped into the 8-second zone still using a 5-speed H-pattern gearbox.
    Pressing on the S13 keep going faster and faster still retaining a 71mm turbocharger.
    With the aim to go quicker PJ has made some recent changes to the car including a larger Precision 76mm turbo and Haltech Elite computer. However the biggest change has come in the way of an OS 6-speed sequential gearbox.
    Paul and the Advance team were out recently testing the new combo both on the quarter mile and one kilometer events respectively where traction is now a test for small tyres.
    PJ's Quick Bits Nissan S13 Silvia
    Nissan SR20VET 2.0L (factory block & crank)
    Precision 76mm turbo @ 43psi
    6Boost exhaust manifold, Plazmaman inlet manifold
    Haltech Elite 2500 ECU, Pump E85 ethanol fuel
    OS-88 6-speed sequential gearbox

    I think he lost out going with the 6-speed sequential and the bigger turbo. He should lengthen his gears, at least. Make 5th gear in the sequential equal to 5th in the H-pattern, maybe even higher, to get grip. He should only be hitting the limiter on 3rd up to the middle of 4th in the quarter mile.

    If you don't mind me asking, what compression ratio is it? also I see factory block, did you sleeve it? did you retain the skirt squirters, or take them out? also what cam/crank trigger setup are you using? I just took my p11 sr20vet down to install 9:1 cp pistons and manley turbotuff rods, also upgraded wrist pins. hoping to make similar power. if youd rather keep that stuff secret, I understand. its just a few things ive been curious about as far as others builds.

    • @makemegofast
      @makemegofast 8 лет назад

      Hi Tom, approx 9:1. It's sleeved, running a factory P12 crank angle sensor, still has the factory oil squirters.
      Check out PJ's Quick Bits on Facebook to follow the progress of the car.
      Cheers

    • @cxbra
      @cxbra 8 лет назад +1

      Theres no way possible... The "new" way of making power on turbo 4's is super high compression like 10:1, sleeved block and tons of boost. The high compression seems like it acts like a stroked motor. Maybe he's running the stock sized engine, but theres no way that its NOT fully built.

    • @mrmidnight32
      @mrmidnight32 8 лет назад +1

      Yea I think they left some major mods out of the spec sheet. I said the same thing. I've seen SR's blow after 450... Something is missing.

      @Drunken_Hamster 7 лет назад

      Out of context.
      >"Super High Compression Ratio"
      >"10:1"
      Lel, that's what Stock V8's usually run with, only making about 60hp-65hp/liter, usually with a higher torque figure and a redline of 6k RPM. Stock, that is.

  • @mrmidnight32
    @mrmidnight32 8 лет назад +1

    No way that's all the kids list. There has to be at least cams, pistons and rods or something. No way a stock block is going to hold a 76 @ 43 PSI... Sleeved? What else is in it

    • @fullboost
      @fullboost  8 лет назад +1

      We mean factory Nissan block and crank, not aftermarket billet stuff like you see a lot now. Yes it has rods/pistons/cams etc.

    • @mrmidnight32
      @mrmidnight32 8 лет назад

      Fullboost Ok I was about to say... I don't remember SR's being THAT stout. You almost had me posting a FS ad for my built DE and thinking about throwing a SR into my 350 so a second if that was all stock internal lol

    • @yjkader
      @yjkader 8 лет назад +1

      Lmao.. No shit sherlock.
      It said 'stock block and crank'. Not 'stock motor', obviously indicating everything else isn't stock.. Fullboost assumed anybody watching this would have half a clue and realise a stock sr cannot produce 1000hp and rev out to almost 11k. Guess they were wrong lol.

    How much can a SR20 make w/ stock internals ?

    • @mrmidnight32
      @mrmidnight32 8 лет назад +1

      I've seen some give after 450 ish. 500 if your lucky I'm going to guess. Tops before you need selves and other internals.

    • @Drunken_Hamster
      @Drunken_Hamster 7 лет назад

      So how much is that at the wheels? Can you make 400 wheel with an SR20 on stock internals?

    • @mrmidnight32
      @mrmidnight32 7 лет назад

      Drunken Hamster Well usually you can figure out your full output and factor 10-15% power loss of that number for crank to wheel.
      If you do a roll dyno you can get those corrected and get a rough estimate. But general rule if you are making 500 crank, your making about 450 wheel. And yes 400 seems to be possible being a few guys are running 400 on stock blocks with turbo and injector upgrades. How long it will last is the question. Seems to be about the failure point for their head gaskets and rods.

    • @Drunken_Hamster
      @Drunken_Hamster 7 лет назад

      So how much would it cost to take an SR20 to 400 wheel, and then how much more to make it bulletproof reliable? Then how much to do so at, say, 600 wheel?

    • @mrmidnight32
      @mrmidnight32 7 лет назад

      Drunken Hamster Just a guess but for a full swap including harness, evy and engine mounts probably in the $6-10k range... Bullet proof is probably in the $15-20k range....
      Im sure someone's going to say they bullet proofed one for $10 and a stick of bubble gum but its not always like that. Unless you know people, do all the work your self including machining and get lucky as fuck with deals or finds.
      My RB swap in my s13 ran me like $8k.. And I wasn't even close to being bullet proof. Engine alone ran me $5k.. But this was roughly 6 years ago so yea.
