    Well everyone, it's ready! I stayed up most of the night to get this video edited as soon as possible. So be sure to give it some love! I invite you to join me on Avelo Airlines' inaugural east coast flight from New Haven, Connecticut (HVN) to Orlando, Florida (MCO). As always, the full flight is presented to you in its entirety, in crystal clear 4K! It was an awesome flight, full of special festivities, a full power rolling takeoff, two water cannon salutes, an amazing flight crew, many special dignitaries including the Governor of Connecticut and the CEO of Avelo Airlines, and even some college sports mascots! The views of Connecticut, the northeast, and Orlando were pretty amazing too. To my surprise, there was still an amazing display of fall colors around New Haven, which in conjunction with the clear day, made for some stunning conditions for this historic flight! So sit back, relax, enjoy that perfect wing view, and be a part of this historic flight for New Haven, Orlando, and Avelo Airlines!
    Side note. This is todays upload, there will not be an additional video at 4:00pm. And for those of you waiting for the final leg of the Alaska Airlines milk run, I moved that flight from KTN-SEA to Saturday.
    Thanks everyone for your continued support! Enjoy this one!

    Very cool!!! Congratulations on being able to fly on, and film an actual route-inaugural flight! It’s another great video, as usual. In full-screen mode, I felt as if I were actually looking out the window at seat 24F! Beautifully clear and smooth day for flying, and the fire department salute at both ends, was extraordinary.
    It’s very special to be able to board the aircraft from the ramp-level, instead of through a Jetway. You get a perspective of the airplane, that you just don’t get from up above. I can remember, as a child, boarding my first flights on Western Airlines’ Boeing 720Bs, from the ramp in SAN. Lots of airports, especially the smaller ones, had ramp-boarding in those days. SJC boarded from the ramp at Terminal C, until it was closed in 2010. Actually, many Latin American and Caribbean airports still board from the ramp to this day.

    Hey there. I was born in New Britain, and we always flew out of BDL. How long has New Haven been open? I never knew there was an airport there, unless it was built post 1980's? Nice flight.

    • @ryanstoddard1803
      @ryanstoddard1803 2 года назад

      Tweed has always been there in one form or another. They had Allegheny, Us Air, United (in the 90s weekly 737 service to Chicago and United Express), Delta, New Air (New Haven Air which mergers later became Business Express among others over the years. We even had an Allegheny Flight from New London crash in the 70s sadly. New London and Bridgeport had commercial service at once point (Us Airways express was the last one in each airport before they stopped).

    • @sla31
      @sla31  2 года назад +1

      The airport itself has been there since 1931, but it hasn’t always had commercial flights. Until recently American had service to HVN from CLT and PHL, but they ended service there in September. With only 5,600 feet of runway it’s definitely a small airport, but Avelo seems committed, and I think this has the potential to be something great as it moves forward. I’m not sure if this is true or not, but I heard that yesterday’s flight was the first “mainline” non-regional jet aircraft to fly passengers out of HVN ever.

    • @ryanstoddard1803
      @ryanstoddard1803 2 года назад

      @@sla31 I will certainly promote HVN to people, but we also need either American to return or another airline that flies to a hub for connecting flights for the business travel market. If Covid did not happen i think American would have stayed, maybe they may return. Previous commercial service did not last as long as US Airways Express/American (after the merger) was always consistent with us. But i see great things for Avelo (i hope they are brave try out San Juan, there is a market around here).

    • @sla31
      @sla31  Год назад +1

      Oh no, that’s pretty normal to be honest. Above 18,000 feet is all what is called Class A airspace. That’s 100% controlled airspace, which means every aircraft is being told exactly where to fly at all times by air traffic controllers. No one is allowed above 18,000 feet without a filed flight plan and being in constant contact with ATC. It looks close, and I can’t remember the exact minimum separation requirements in Class A airspace, but air traffic control wouldn’t have let either of us get that close if it wasn’t within limits. On top of that all commercial aircraft are equipped with a TCAS system. That’s an acronym for terrain collision avoidance system. And what this system does, in addition to warning about potential terrain, is that each aircraft is constantly talking with every other aircraft in the area. And if any two aircraft get too close to each other, breaking the minimum separation limit, the TCAS will go off in each aircraft, giving the pilots opposite commands. TCAS commands are the only commands that have a higher priority than ATC. If the TCAS system goes off, pilots are taught to immediately, and without question, follow the commands even if air traffic control is giving them a counter command. Anyway, the fact that neither plane made any sudden movements, indicates that neither of those systems went off. So. it looked close, but I am 100% sure it was within FAA limits. Thanks for watching my friend!

    • @mwhite6522
      @mwhite6522 Год назад

      @@sla31 OK so there is a minimum distance planes have to keep at that altitude. I've seen planes go by before when I'm in a window seat, but never seen one go by that close. I figured each plane is monitored and is in constant touch with the controller. It just seemed abnormally close.

      Tweed was definitely small, but they have big plans for the future. It was a nice airport, and I hope this Avelo deal continues to expand there.

      Typically yes, however, on rare occasions I post videos at 10:00am if they are high profile flights that I’m trying to post as soon as possible. I took this flight yesterday and had it ready to post this morning, so it went live at 10:00am. Thanks for watching!

      I plan to take that flight. A lot of it depends on when it is scheduled. I do have my regular job to deal with, and I can’t always take off. We’ll see!

    A 737 barely handles this SUPER SHORT Runway!! An A319 would handle much better

    You can clearly tell it used to be a Southwest 737 700

    • @sla31
      @sla31  2 года назад

      Yes you can. But, if that helps Avelo expand more quickly and save some money then I’m fine it. I actually find southwest economy seats quite comfortable. So, this option is probably more comfortable than a new slimline seat would be anyways. Thanks for watching my friend!

    why do they waste water by throwing it on the plane?

    • @sla31
      @sla31  2 года назад +3

      I’ve had other people ask this same question on other inaugural flight videos. And the answer is that they really aren’t wasting water. I mean, technically, they are…. But… Speaking as an aircraft rescue firefighter myself. Yes, that’s my day job away from YT. We’re required to check those trucks every day, and that includes testing the pumps and turrets to make sure everything is working correctly. Those trucks and personnel are there in case of worst case scenario type situations. Can you imagine a plane crashes, here comes the fire trucks, and the pumps are broken? That’d be a bad day. So, they have to run water through them everyday anyways. At my airport, if we have a fight that would like a water salute, we just wait to do the daily checks until then. Kill two birds type of deal. So, I’d imagine they did something similar. So, they’re not really wasting water. They had to do it regardless. Thanks for watching!

      Cuz it's ex-Southwest 737-700

    • @sla31
      @sla31  2 года назад +1

      Yes it is. It’s an ex-Southwest aircraft. And honestly, I don’t mind. I always found southwest economy seats to be pretty comfortable. And if this helps Avelo save some money, and be able to put more aircraft into service quicker, then I don’t have any issues with it.
