- www.DoloresPerson.com - In a recent cover story on this home, Early Homes Magazine had this to say, A consistent architectural and decorative vocabulary voices harmony in [this] handsomely restored 1777 house in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Built by a wealthy merchant and Revolutionary War leader, the house is truly a unique Georgian architectural gem, a wonderful and welcoming landmark home. It is possibly the ONLY pure Georgian brick house in a coastal city of primarily Federal period structures.
With the charm and authenticity of a true New England classic, this sumptuous home also has all the livable-ness and 21st century efficiency of todays new construction. Upon entering the massive front door and stepping into the exquisitely proportioned foyer and grand entrance hall, one of the most important architectural features is revealed, its glorious front-to-back, double staircase, divided on the stair landing by the imposing pillars and arch. This Good Morning staircase was unique to Newburyport and Salem, with this being a very early, if not the earliest, remaining example!
With classic Georgian symmetry, four full chimneys, each with a fireplace upstairs and downstairs, completely rebuilt and restored in 2003, this great house also retains all its gorgeous period raised field paneling, exquisite crown mouldings, and pilasters, as well as its other major feature, the original floor-to-ceiling built-in cupboard, filling an entire wall of the old kitchen.
The flow in this home is irresistible, perfect for entertaining, as well as for everyday life. Off the old kitchen is a very early addition, once the summer kitchen, now home to the new contemporary kitchen, with its generous cabinetry, French-style layout, and top-of-the-line appliances, including the Viking commercial range and SubZero refrigerator.
Alive with the documented vibrant colors, bold textures, and rich patterns of the Georgian palette, these interiors speak to those with an appreciation of beauty and elegance. Illuminated by custom-made lighting fixtures designed to soften and enhance the atmosphere and color of the dwellings generous details, this home bespeaks domestic harmony in its enticing symmetry.
The new addition, off the brand-new kitchen is the family room, looking back appreciatively toward the old house, with a full bath and walk-in closet with built-in shelves. With room-sized baths on the second and third floors, as well as double-sized closets, the house retains its original floor plan, but with all the closet space of a new home.
One of Newburyports and indeed New Englands -- Great Houses, this is a home for all seasons and for all size families or for collectors, for anyone who enjoys living near the water and with downtown Newburyport with its bookstores, cafes, gourmet food shops, bakeries, and fitness centers at your doorstep.

When I studied in abroad in Wales and toured England, I toured a Georgian home. Many of us were surprised at the low ceilings and small rooms. Our guide told us that people back then were typically smaller than people today and also building materials were scarcer. These were the reasons for the small rooms with low ceilings. But Georgian homes here in the US seem to have a larger scale.
The light fixtures are amazing!
Stunning!! Please keep it as is!
Magnifique the wood stairs the wall all around window doors and well decorated very stylish and very warm and nice Spirit feeling !❤😍😘👍💎🌼🎉🌈
Lovely Home and Location. Tfs💐
Very nice house. Wallpaper is great and I think it’s well balanced and not overwhelming. I think I like morning staircase feature as it seems to give some openness to the house, but did not get a great view of it, tho they tried. Modern houses are often too open, imho.
Wow, wow, wow! Absolutely fabulous!!!!
I love it! Its like a dollhouse.
I love the old wood furniture and beautiful light in corner...very classy!
Beauty And elegance never seems to cease 👏
I am so happy to see piles of books in every room! It makes me like my house much more! I have antiques from my family and I am always looking for ideas to decorate.
That place was made for cooking and reading in cold winter
Not gonna lie, there's a LOT going on in terms of patterns, fabrics, decoration and all that jazz. But... I still kind of like it! I like that the interior designer managed to convey a historic feeling instead of turning it into another kitch-laden American "antique" home, that seems more fit for the tastes of Russian oligarchs.
what a gem.
Beautiful

Beautiful home, minus the wall paper, I just love this home..I wish it were mine!

Sad that it doesn't come with a compound.

If you're going to go to the cost and effort of using historically accurate wallpaper from Adelphi Paper Hangings, why then put a black and white print of Mt. Everest, and a swingy tail cat clock on the wall? Either go for accuracy or don't.
Well, in the end it's a home, not a museum, so I guess people like to add touches that feel more personal and modern.

This is the style that i can call it a dinky home ! 😊
I hate the wallpaper and rest of the ugly decor. But the house itself is beautiful!
So much clutter a perfect breeding ground for mice and cockroaches.
You must be fun at parties
I imagine if you're able to afford such a house, you're also able to afford a regular cleaning service.
I don't like it.
Ugliest wallpaper and carpeting I have ever seen they must have been copying the British
