Brilliant! This has to be the "go-to" explanation of note-taking and how to develop and use your Zettelkasten. The stages are well presented, helping you understand "what" you should do and "why" you should do it, with good discussion to help reinforce the thinking. This is a lecture you can come back to again and again as you develop and refine your use of the technique - either as a refresher or if you get bogged down and need some help to get back on track. Thanks, Martin, fabulous work.
Imho: a man who commented on 28:33 said the core essence of the system. He didn't go deep into details, as it would have no reason in the context of the fluidity of the system. Hence, thanks to the author and that man from the audience for giving me a precise answer on such a thorough topic.
Soooooo helpful! i’ve watched a lot of zet. videos and for some reason they seem to explain them as though you are already familiar with the nature or lingo of the components... this was a great conceptual breakdown that helps me realize my own way of processing info only needs a few tweaks and some intentionality to finally begin building my own ZK - thank you!
Thank you. The skills are really something that can last a lifetime. I find value in it for my professional career. If you want to explore what you can do with note taking in your career, check out my book atomicnotetaking.com
Thanks Tristan! It was really good to be able to interact with questions there and then. I'm thinking of how to make it better with potentially some smaller group workshops a couple of weeks after the learning material to workshop the student's actual Zettelkasten systems. Great learning for me on what it's like being a PHD student.
I cannot help asking: where did you get those images of the people? They're great! And I'm also enjoying your content. This is the third of your videos, I think, that I've watched. I'm more interested in the analog approach, but I'm finding your explanations helpful. I might look at Obsidian (because of you) for specific projects, but I'm looking at a longer term system that won't be subject to the vagaries of tech. Thanks for your channel!
Thank you. The artwork was generated using the Midjourney AI. It's been a fantastic tool to help me create very conceptual images on a very abstract topic such as note-taking.
Just a fantastic workflow review and exactly what I need to do a system for my creative ideas. I am a film director and maybe we'll find some areas of intersection in what we are doing. How can I connect with you on social media?
I do mention it at some point, but the images were made with the Midjourney AI. It's really good for getting interesting graphics on a very abstract topic.
The math person asking where does an atomic note end, got too stuck on the "atomic note is standalone/self explanatory, and can be understood without other references". In layman terms, he sounds to be asking if that means that an atomic note about electric cars should go to the detail of explaining what a car is.
Right. Let me see how I would answer that example. Should you explain what a car is when talking about electric cars. The answer generally is no, because each note should be written atomically and convey just one idea. Now, an electric car is a specialisation of car. So you might at a high level have notes on the following: 1. Difference between an EV and a ICE car 2. When did EV's become popular 3. Advantages of an EV 4. Disadvantages of an EV 5. How EVs work 5a. EV battery technology 5b. EV performance You might have a note on Cars, but I feel that this would be a Map of Concept which outlines any research you desire about cars in general. For examples: 1. What is a car 2. Types of cars 3. The origin of cars 4. The evolution of cars 4a. Electric Vehicles (this could be a second Map of Content with the above notes within) It's been a while since this video was made, but I wouldn't now say that a note should be understood without other references, but more so that each note should have one idea that should be easy to understand, but can be built on the foundation of other notes. The goal is to structure your notes so that you can pick any one randomly, read it and the idea it talks about makes sense. If you want to dig deeper, then the links to other notes should satisfy your curiosity. Just be mindful that you can't make notes on absolutely everything. It's all about priority and satisfying the goals of your note-taking. So if you want to talk about electric cars in the context of society, I wouldn't worry about going into the physics of how they are manufactured, aerodynamics and electronics.
The audio is bad, it is discouraging, even thought the content if great. For you next video pls make it easy on your audience and pls pay attention to the audio.
Yeah sorry about that. I really couldn't control the audio with this one sadly. It was either this or nothing, despite my best attempts to try and save the audio.

Thank you Paul, I really appreciate the kind feedback!

Thanks a lot for having shared this recording 🙏 It really helps to understand better the zettelkasten method

Thank you, that's so good to hear that the way I present the concepts is helpful. I'm always looking to simplify it and make it easier to understand.
Excellent work. Quality video. Glad you are back 💕
That was really interesting! I sadly am already done with my phd, but it would have definitely been helpful for my phd 😅

Sounds a good talk to be at live, and hope the course goes well

Very helpful, thank you for sharing

Thank you! Yeah, I’m on Twitter (I mean X) at @Martin_Adams.
Thank yo very much!
also, the images for your presentation were arresting, but couldn’t catch where you said they came from?? are they yours or commissioned??

The AI image generator really does think all scientists are black in the beginning huh?
low quality sound / voice.
