Well done on the award Charlie! As a reasonably recent subscriber, the enjoyment and knowledge I've gained from watching hours of your videos is more than deserving of me taking the time to vote.
Excellent news on your award and well deserved. Always a pleasure and thanks for taking the time to talk along side Richard from Accurascale - ended up putting a deposit on that class 66😀
What a great show! First, Congratulations on your THIRD WIN! And thank you for 236 episodes - so far - that have carried me from the inspiration to rejoin model railroading at 79 to having operating DCC within fifteen months. I really enjoyed the Making Tracks cab rides, and seeing the various little bobbles, bumps, and burps gave me encouragement in my efforts. Of course, having that level of control - and consistency - is beyond my feeble brain, but I know now I can keep trying. The fact that this is a mobile layout and has the successes it has shows how craftsmanship and judgement can prevail. I particularly liked the fact that on the public facing side, there is only one point, a trailing one at that, on the down slow. I wish I could rebuild to meet that criteria on my rats' nest of rails. The real genius, as I see it, is the fact that this appears to be four tailchasers inside one another, with single loops on the back side. (I did catch one set of several stub sidings which, I assume, are used in smaller shows.) Carry on and good winds.
Charlie, congrats on another well deserved win for the RUclipsr of the Year. Thank you for the insights and background to being behind the scenes of Making Tracks. I have wated the Pete Waterman series Little Trains and Big Names, and the Hornby A Model World series were we get a glimpse at the building of Making Tracks, but good to see it in detail running, and the joy that it brings to the faces of everyone around. What a great way to get more people into a wonderful hobby. Thank you for sharing, cheers, and stay safe, Michael
Many thanks Michael, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the video. It was a real privilege to get amongst it both at the show and in the cathedral. Stay safe, regards Charlie.
Great video showcasing Making Tracks 4 and the wonderful work the Railnuts do. It was lovely to finally meet you Charlie at GETS on Sunday. One of the many hands I guess you shook. You must feel at times please just let me have five minutes peace! As I said at the time as a returning modeller you've been such a great help educating and inspiring me. Thank you for the time, effort and dedication you put into making your videos. Here's to many more.
Thanks John, that’s very kind of you to say so. I really do enjoy meeting folks such as yourself, it reinvigorates me to produce better videos. Take care mate, regards John.
Congratulations!!!! Thank you for all your hard work in bringing us great content, this award was well deserved. Your channel is not only entertaining but informative. Thank You......
You always give us such a lovely start of the weekend. Around Thursday or so I tend to have a brief check to see if there is a Chadwick Friday coming up (...YAAAI!!!) or not (...aw). That award is fully deserved. I'm already looking forward to the next one, and I don't even care if you show us some red and black wires or a bag of chinchilla sand. Always worth watching.
From Australia, congratulations on winning this award for the second year in a row. You certainly deserved it for your work in our Hobby of HO trains. Well done, Charlie. Let's go for three in a row in 2025. Mike HO in Aussie.
Congratulations on your RUclips award, well deserved. Thank you for the feature on “Making Tracks”. As a Canadian I have read a bit and seen some videos about the layout but it’s unlikely I will ever see it set up and running. Fascinating! Cheers from across the pond.🇨🇦
Another great episode, Charlie, and congratulations on, once again, being Hornby Magazine's RUclipsr of the Year. I was also lucky to get to see this fantastic layout at Chester Cathedral during the summer.
Congratulations 🎊 on winning your award, well done, and well done to Pete waterman and his crew and this is great as getting people of all ages who might not ever got to have a go on a model railway ,and hope that it's starts a new thing were at some model railway shows some are open for people to have a go.then we might get more young people to join and keep model railways alive for future generations.
Your videos are always both entertaining and informative so really it's a no-brainer when it comes to backing that P.o.V. by ticking a box. Congratulations. Keep it up!
Another great video, Charlie, so thanks again. Spot on on how good it is to see the interest and excitement of all the young 'uns and less young 'uns. I agree on how pleasing the simplicity of the trackwork is : it's good to be shown that you don't need complicated pointwork and shunting puzzle goods yards to have an interesting model railway, and that there is absolutely no harm in watching the trains go by on a model railway. Congratulations on the award; richly deserved as ever. Though there has to come a time when Hornby Mag makes it a lifetime award and bans you, to give others a chance. Not that (m)any achieve your standard. Crawling over, I'll just point out that that trick of bending a piece of rail upwards inside tunnel portals to guide pantographs onto the catenary wires has been around for decades, at least in Germany anyway.
Many thanks Andrew, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the video. The pantograph guide is certainly new to me but clearly “old hat” to many. Regards Charlie
Congratulations Charlie. Well deserved. I really enjoy your videos even when the topic is not relevant to what I am doing. They still provide me with information and ideas. Thank you for what you do!
Congratulations on your recognition. You are truly in the top echelon of your class. I absolutely loved your documentation of the Making Rails project. They have done incredible work. The cab and trackside views brought an immersive perspective and showed off a lot of their hard work in detail. I am especially impressed with the catenary system which most have taken hundreds of hours to construct. We live in an age where the parts to economically construct a scale camera inspection car are within reach for our own home or club layouts. I think you have inspired me to make that a project for myself.
Love the background story on Making Tracks and the Rail Nuts and how it has applications for large personal or club layouts. Your always sharing tips to the model railway community around the world. Congratulations on being Hornby Magazine You Tube modeller of the year. Bill and Janet from California
You deserve the award because of your great channel and your excellent content. The layout exhibition tour was very nice. Thank you for sharing for those of us in the U.S.A. that would never get a chance to see it in person. Looking forward to more future awesome videos.
Congratulations on the Award Charlie - it is well deserved! I love watching your videos and I am in Australia, modelling Colorado USA in N Scale...your presentation and style are very easy to watch. Thanbks for posting this, it would be interesting to see the camera car set-up you used... cheers from Oz!
A well deserved award for your enthusiasm that I believe has helped many new people to enjoy the hobby. I didn’t make it to Milton Keynes this year as still recovering from own Stafford Exhibition. So just a short journey to Statfold Barns to enjoy the new Warley Exhibition. I will however as last year be making my way up to Blakemore Garden Centre with a few club members to watch the trains run in a much more relaxed environment than MK Keep up the good work and of course I voted for you. Terry
Great Video, Charlie and so good to meet you in person at GETS. Thanks for the generous portion of time you allowed me as I rambled on to you about my own modelling trials and tribulations. Thanks also for the excellent advice you gave me. Congratulations on another well deserved Award. All the very best for the future.
Charlie, got to firstly say congratulations on your award….very much deserved and secondly what some really great camera angles you achieved on this iconic layout….well done again …..👏👏…👍
Hi Charlie, I thought you'd get an award. I don't practice DCC, I'm in DC but your techniques and methods are always very interesting to watch. Congratulations again from France
Congratulations on your award Charlie well deserved indeed. Your ongoing efforts in sharing your knowledge and experience in this amazing hobby is much appreciated by myself and many others. Thanks 🇦🇺
Wow what can I say just rewatched on a bigger screen incredible all access video Best I’ve seen on making tracks 4 Also saw the footage on another RUclips channel of the awards ceremony I will stick my neck out and say you were the crowd favourite Keep it up
Well done Charlie, well deserved win - again. Great video of Making Tracks, it’s good to bend the knees now and again and get the ground level shots plus drivers eye view. Also good to see some behind the scenes video, some of the scenery on show layouts is amazing but I’m also interested in how the layouts are being run. Keep up the good work, I cry every time I look under my baseboard and compare it to yours!!
Thanks, Ian, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the video from a different point of view. It was certainly an enjoyable experience, especially in the cathedral. RegardsCharlie.
Hi Charlie, Congratulations. Now then that ingenious idea to get the pantographs onto the overhead wire I was using nearly 30 years ago on my small Swiss H0m Layout St Moritz-Bad. It is standard practice amongst modellers. The Z21 power source is not actually Z twenty one but Z to One meaning it can be used to power gauges Z to 1. Keep up the good work. Regards Chris
Well done Charlie, richly deserved. I've watched a lot of your videos, always informative and a lot of fun to watch. some lovely camera action in this one of making tracks, many thanks
Hearty congrats on the award Charlie. It’s very well deserved indeed. The quality of your videos and the variety in subject matter is second to none one and I, for one, eagerly await your next instalment. The instructional work is really useful and we’re privileged that you spend the time to go through it in such an engaging fashion. As for this layout - I only wish that I was on your side of the Atlantic and could volunteer a couple of days to have a drive! Keep up the excellent work.
Congratulations a nice win again from HM, thank you for your hard work with making your informative YT videos. It's also good to see a number of woman at the 2 expo's in this one.
Thanks Lee, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it from a different viewing platform. It was certainly an enjoyable experience, especially at the cathedral. Regards, Charlie.
I went to Blakemere last December, before school holidays, and had a great day with the Milton Keynes layout & Railnuts staff. Plan to go again this year to see the new Watford station. Thanks for the video & congratulations on the HORNBY YT award.
Well done on your award - richly deserved. Thanks too for the great footage of Making Tracks. I didn't manage to make it to GETS this year. I must confess I get a perverse sense of satisfaction in seeing short circuits, collisions, derailments, wayward goods wagons and unexpected uncoupling in such marvellous exhibition layouts. It is somehow reassuring and not just things that happen on my layout.😀
Hi Charlie. Many congratulations on winning RUclips Channel of the Year 2024 - well deserved. It was great to meet you on the Saturday and thanks for the photo. There was no need to apologise for the grin, it was worth every penny (LOL). I spoke very briefly with Pete Waterman and asked if making MT4 was any easier having made MT1-3; he said No! I guess every layout has its own peculiar challenges. Yes, that pantograph-lowering solution was inspired. Chester Cathedral: Well done for not colliding with the Class 37(?)!
Congrats on the award, Charlie. Well deserved, if I may say so. That must have been great, the time spent with the 'rail nuts' team. Glad you enjoyed it.
Another well filmed video and great information, thank you. The boys spotted you on the Saturday at GETS, you were trying to buy Dan Evason lunch at the time but we were in a rush so didn’t stop to say hi. Hope you had a good show.
Hi Charlie, enhorabuena (congratulations) on your third award in a row, well done, richly deserved. Making tracks looks great fun, amazing to see it in a Cathedral!! Thanks for filming it all Have a great weekend!!
Hi Charlie, congratulation on winning the 2024 award, I voted for your channel as it provides so much insight and ideas, being a novice modeller that I am. Thanks you Rgds Richard
Congratulations Charlie on your award, I must say it is well disserved. That was a lot of fun watching making tracks, thank you for your effort bringing it to us.
Many thanks for sharing Charlie. The way to get new blood into the wonderful world of model railways is to give more people a chance at controlling the trains in a responsible manner. I noticed the detail in the over head power lines in the catenary that showed the left to right to left etc so not to wear a single groove on the pentagraph of the electric power units, that was a nice touch of realism. I do hope at some point preservation overhead power becomes available for more sites as I fear that the classic class '80's will disappear or become just static exhibits in life. The same comment applies for the Southern 3rd rail electric powered stock.
Super vid, Charlie! Yes I voted for you. I did 'drive' a Class 800 round the layout (Up Fast) at Chester in 2023 (couldn't get there this year). Back to this video - I nearly fell out of the cab when those 20s entered the fiddle yard! Brilliant - keep up the good work. All the best Kev E.
Well done Charlie, on winning the RUclipsr of the Year award. It's richly deserved. You will have to get a bigger cabinet. Great video and insight to how it all works. Martin. (Thailand)
Thanks Eric, that’s very kind of you to say so. Yes, the award ceremonies can be rather eye-opening, but it’s the first time that people have actually booed. Regards, Charlie.
Hi again Charlie. A very well deserved congratulations. Its people like you that help keep our wonderful hobby alive. Fabulous layouts. Only thing missing, Hymeks, Warships and Westerns ! Guess I have to move with progress though! Just wonderful to see so much interest from the public. Let's face it, even if you're not a railway nut, you would have to be impressed with that display. Thanks again. As always, entertaining and diverse. Never know what might be in the next episode. And our hobby is dying, I don't think so. Well done mate, here's to the next 12 months. Stay safe. Howard.
Congrats on the award Charlie, it’s well deserved. Took my 11yo to Chester in August and he was so enthused he's now starting his own railway (and watching your channel).
I would love to see an installation/teardown/transportation time lapse video of this layout. I would think it is complicated, but they must have come up with a lot of techniques and/or shortcuts to accomplish this task!
I wish this was around when I was a kid. I am 56 , my dad used to take me to the Wembley conference Center and the agricultural hall in London to see model railway exhibitions. I loved it but if i could have run a train it would have made my day. Alex the best Alex
Another great video Charlie, thank you and a well deserved recipient of the RUclipsrs award! You are well worth the vote and from giving so much enjoyment from you videos. Take care and stay well!
Pete Waterman seems to be a bit Where's Wally ..... every clip he's there some where as the trains go around the layout. I never noticed the lack of points, it seems unusual that there aren't any and still its "prototypical". It must be amazing to see all four bits of the layout working together. Congratulations on your award.
Many congratulations on the award and the video Charlie. Didn’t make it to GETS this year. Would love to volunteer to help with Making Tracks but Dec/Jan weather could be tricky so will have to give it a miss. Hope to make it to GETS next year. In the meantime look forward to following your progress. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skills. Roy.
Charlie, I took your vieiw of Richard at Roads and Rails as mine (trusting your judgement). I was amazed at his customer service. Please give him another mention and well done in your achievement! Richly deserved.
As someone who's a bit OCD The attention to detail on Making Tracks's layouts is just beautiful. They're prototypical, and they've remembered the stagger in the straight runs. Also I agree the mechanism to get the pantographs onto the OLE is genius for a modelling technique, because I've seen this exact thing done in the real world. I've seen them in Queensland, Australia where they have to have air gaps in the overhead wires, usually at coal loaders near the mines and one example of a crossing for over height mining equipment that necessitated a level crossing to have a gap in the wires, and they use both the catenary height and a ramp like this to guide the pantographs across the gap safely.
Hi Charlie, Very well done on the Hornby award, and for this video. Your behind the scenes story of the Making Tracks IV and allowing the public to run their trains brought back an aha moment. Many (many) years ago when I was in my 20s, and had returned from Canada to the U.K. for a couple of years, a pal - who I had worked with at Bell Telephones in Toronto - came over to the U.K. for a visit. He stayed at my house, and the two of us decided to go to a train show (not sure if Earl's Court or possibly Westminster?). At the show, with me being a paid up member of the TT 3 mm Society, we visited their layout first. The young son of the layout owner was operating the layout on his own as apparently a volunteer had failed to show. So, to give the lad a break, my pal and I volunteered to sit behind the control panel and operate the layout. My pal was an avid model railroader, and operated the layout with much precision and all was going well. Then I had a go. Maybe a flashback to when I was a young lad racing my Triang suburban EMU against my Triang Jinty with a couple of wagons in tow round and round my double track layout (maybe I should have been more into Scalextric?), I inadvertently double headed a goods train drawn by a Jinty with another Jinty towing a couple of wagons ala Canadian National or Canadian Pacific. I was enjoying playing trains and my excuse was that the trailing Jinty had broken down, but unfortunately this non- realistic proposal didn't wash with anyone! It seemed as if everything around us stopped, a couple of members of the public were staring in disbelief and the young lad came back looking in horror at what I was doing. A much older and much revered member of the 3 mm Society very politely commented that maybe I was using American practice? My pal was embarrassed, and I went for a break. I learned a few days later that another Society member - who was operating the same layout the day before - had run one of the locos right through the back of the loco shed. I didn't feel quite so bad, but that was the day I decided to never touch anyone else's layout again. Cheers. Ed.
Well done on the award Charlie! As a reasonably recent subscriber, the enjoyment and knowledge I've gained from watching hours of your videos is more than deserving of me taking the time to vote.

Thanks Rod, that’s very kind of you to say so. Regards, Charlie.
Excellent. Makes a nice change to see a bit of behind the scenes at an exhibition and to simply watch the trains going round.
Thanks Lee, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it from a different viewing platform. It was certainly an enjoyable experience, especially at the cathedral. Regards, Charlie.
Congratulations on your award, well deserved
Thanks Darz, that’s very kind.
Regards Charlie
Fantastic, well deserved award. Thanks for the endless time and effort for all the videos.👍👍👍
You’re most welcome,John, you keep watching them and I’ll keep making them. Regards, Charlie.
I went to Blakemere last December, before school holidays, and had a great day with the Milton Keynes layout & Railnuts staff. Plan to go again this year to see the new Watford station. Thanks for the video & congratulations on the HORNBY YT award.
Thanks Pat, I shall have to get up to see it again myself. Regards, Charlie.
Congratulations on your award this year great videos very informative keep up the good work 👍
Thanks, Clive, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the video. Regards, Charlie.

Charlie, Congratulations for a well deserved award.
Thanks PP, that’s very kind of you to say so. Regards, Charlie.
Indeed John, that’s why I left the mishaps in! Regards Charlie
Congratulations Charlie on your award. Excellent video of making tracks and was great to see you enjoying yourself in amongst the rail nuts.
Thanks, Graham, and I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the video. Regards, Charlie.
I voted for you! Great channel and I’ve learnt so much and will continue to. Keep up the good work mate.
Thanks Richard, that’s very kind of you to say so. Regards, Charlie.
Many thanks, Paul, it’s always great to meet up at these shows. I do hope that you enjoyed yourself as well, regards Charlie.
Congrats on the award, Charlie. Well deserved, if I may say so. That must have been great, the time spent with the 'rail nuts' team. Glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks, Philip, yes, it was an enjoyable couple of days. Regards, Charlie.
It's great to see a working pantagraph/ catenary system, well done 👍
Thanks Stephen, yes it was one of the outstanding features. Regards, Charlie.
Congratulations on the Hornby Magazine award, well deserved
Thanks Peter, that’s very kind of you to say so. Regards, Charlie.
Another well filmed video and great information, thank you. The boys spotted you on the Saturday at GETS, you were trying to buy Dan Evason lunch at the time but we were in a rush so didn’t stop to say hi. Hope you had a good show.
Thanks DakDak, I do so hope that you and the twins had a great day.
Regards Charlie
Congratulations on winning the award, Charlie. Well done 👍

Definitely great ambassadors for the hobby . Wish I could have a go too ! Sadly I’m up in Glasgow
Thanks, Russell, perhaps one day we can talk them into visiting Model Rail Scotland. Regards, Charlie.
Great video and layout concept. I looks like lots of fun to run. Cheers

Have a great weekend!!
Thanks David, that’s very kind of you to say so. Regards, Charlie.
Congratulations Charlie. Well deserved award.
Thanks, Andrew, that’s very kind. Regards, Charlie.
Hi Charlie, congratulation on winning the 2024 award, I voted for your channel as it provides so much insight and ideas, being a novice modeller that I am. Thanks you Rgds Richard
Thanks, Richard, and I’m very grateful for your vote. Regards, Charlie.
Congratulations Charlie on your award, I must say it is well disserved. That was a lot of fun watching making tracks, thank you for your effort bringing it to us.
Thanks Tony, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it.
Many thanks,Anthony, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the detail. Regards, Charlie.
Thanks Kev, I’m so pleased you enjoyed the reminiscent train ride. Regards, Charlie.
Well done Charlie, on winning the RUclipsr of the Year award. It's richly deserved. You will have to get a bigger cabinet. Great video and insight to how it all works. Martin. (Thailand)
Thanks Martin, that’s most kind.
Regards Charlie
One of the few categories where the winner actually deserves the award! Lol
Great to catch up with you buddy. You are a bloody good laugh!
Thanks Eric, that’s very kind of you to say so. Yes, the award ceremonies can be rather eye-opening, but it’s the first time that people have actually booed. Regards, Charlie.
@@ChadwickModelRailway There's never a good reason to Boo. Probably sour grapes by the boo-er!
Stay safe.
Howard.
Thanks Howard, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the video. Yes, undoubtedly the hobby is alive and well. Regards, Charlie.
Congrats on the award Charlie, it’s well deserved. Took my 11yo to Chester in August and he was so enthused he's now starting his own railway (and watching your channel).
Thanks great news Roger. You must be so proud. Regards Charlie.
I would love to see an installation/teardown/transportation time lapse video of this layout. I would think it is complicated, but they must have come up with a lot of techniques and/or shortcuts to accomplish this task!
I do believe a time lapse exists, I shall see if I can get my hands on it. Regards, Charlie.
I wish this was around when I was a kid. I am 56 , my dad used to take me to the Wembley conference Center and the agricultural hall in London to see model railway exhibitions. I loved it but if i could have run a train it would have made my day. Alex the best Alex
Thanks, Alex, it really is an inspirational layout. Regards, Charlie.
Congratulations Charlie and thanks for the insights on running Making Tracks 4. I think I will volunteer and contact Chris.
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the video Andy. I do hope that you find a useful date with Chris.
Regards, Charlie.
All really interesting. Thanks Charlie, and congrats also.
Thanks, Roger, that’s most kind. Regards, Charlie.
Another great video Charlie, thank you and a well deserved recipient of the RUclipsrs award! You are well worth the vote and from giving so much enjoyment from you videos.
Take care and stay well!
Thanks David, that’s very kind of you to say so. Regards Charlie
Well done for your award, you show and promote all that is good about the interest
Thanks Aldam, that’s very kind of you to say so.
Congratulations on your well deserved award🍾
It’s great that you got recognition for the hard work involved in making these videos for us to enjoy.
Thanks Stephen, it’s comments such as yours that make the whole thing worthwhile. Regards, Charlie.
Well done Charlie on your award.
Thanks, Philip, that’s most kind. Regards, Charlie.
Congratulations on your much deserved award Charlie, So glad you had fun on making tracks layout 👍
Many thanks, Alan, and I do hope you enjoy the video. Regards, Charlie.
Good on you Charlie, well deserved award. Always look forward to your videos - well presented, easy to understand and informative! Well done!
Thanks Kym, that’s very kind of you to say so. Regards, Charlie.
Thanks George, much appreciated. There were other points, but I believe that they were removed due to derailing and short circuits. Regards, Charlie.
Great video Charlie, keep up the good work
Thanks, MPJ, that’s most kind regards, Charlie
Charlie, of all the layouts I have watched over the years I can't remember if I have ever seen a working catenary and pantagraph, well done 😮
Yes, it is rather astounding Stephen. However, it is not powered. Regards, Charlie.
Congratulations on your RUclipsr award Charlie, and thanks again for stopping to talk at GETs.
You’re most welcome, Lee, I do hope you had a great time. Regards, Charlie.
Congrats on your award, sir - I'm glad in a perverse way that the big boys get the same problems as I do on a layout lol
Yes, indeed V 56 it is reassuring. Regards, Charlie.
Congrats on your award! Great and informative video 👍🙂
Thanks LJRL, that’s most kind.
Regards Charlie
Many congratulations on the award and the video Charlie. Didn’t make it to GETS this year. Would love to volunteer to help with Making Tracks but Dec/Jan weather could be tricky so will have to give it a miss. Hope to make it to GETS next year. In the meantime look forward to following your progress. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skills. Roy.
Thanks Roy, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the video and hopefully GETS next year. Regards, Charlie.
Charlie, I took your vieiw of Richard at Roads and Rails as mine (trusting your judgement). I was amazed at his customer service. Please give him another mention and well done in your achievement! Richly deserved.
Thanks Ian, I’m so pleased that you were impressed with Richard’s service, as I am. Regards Charlie.
first of all a big congratulations on your award well deserved .how good is making tracks 4 so much detail
Thanks Geoffrey , I’m so pleased that you found the video entertaining. Regards, Charlie.
Congratulations and thanks for an excellent video. Presumably not actually powering the trains but good to see the 'functioning' pantograph/OLE.
Yes RWM, it is unpowered.
Regards Charlie
I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it, Jay, and many thanks for looking into your world. Regards, Charlie.
Cheers. Ed.
Many thanks, Ed, for a fascinating look into your world. Regards, Charlie.
