      @ST H No, Premier league did take off after 2002-03. Whether it is because of Jose, that is debatable though. There are many factors.

    • @Kioxx7
      @Kioxx7 4 года назад +139

      Mourinho was the spark? What? The spark was them rebranding the First Divison into the Premier League in 92 and Sky giving them a huge TV deal which gave clubs money to bring in international names. Just look at who was playing for English clubs at the start of the 90's and compare it to who was playing for English clubs at the end of the 90's. Night and day difference. Abramovich wouldn't have even bought Chelsea and Mourinho would have ended up somewhere else without all of that.

I don't think he had the right personalities 2nd time around, they brought into it for a while but it wore off quicker than his 1st stint. Players have to feel there's a vendetta against them, they have to have a personality for the mentality. John Terry was perfect for example.

    20 years ago I saw his first match as a manager at the time I told to a buddy of mine there is something different about this man you could feel it from the warm up drills he made.
    A couple of months later he got sacked because he was with the old regime and We saw him winning everything with the rivals.
    I had a conversation with my mate a couple of years ago and remember when I told you letting him go was the worst mistake Benfica ever made?

    • @Spect3r.
      @Spect3r. 4 года назад +1

      I am not a Benfica supporter, but to be fair...
      Shortly after Mourinho came in, Benfica had elections and a new president was voted in. Mourinho wanted the new president to assure him a 2 years contract and the new president only wanted to give him 1 + option.
      Mourinho wanted a safe project, but the new president was going to be in hot water if things didnt went well. Plus Benfica was a mess financialy at that time, they couldnt take the chance of having to pay to fire a coach and then spend more money hiring a new one.

    They called him arrogant, but everything he said was backed up by results and trophies. He knew how good he was and had no time for false modesty.
    For over 20 years, he's won at least one trophy at every club he's managed - except Tottenham, but I have no doubt they would have won the league cup that year if they hadn't sacked him the week before the final.
    When he retires he will absolutely go down in history as one of the all-time greats.

    Yet he still had to prove himself?
    Players & coaches go to the PL because of the challenge and the excitement. They leave because of the shite press.

    This really shows how football has changed. Back then everyone admired Mourinho’s confidence and self belief. These days if he introduced himself how he did back then, everyone would write him off as arrogant and rather than appreciate his success that he would later go on to achieve, they would wait for his first mistake or loss and be the “I told you so” person.
    I don’t know if I’m making sense here but what I’m trying to say is that people don’t like to give credit where it’s due and instead want to ridicule and mock people all the time.

    • @killin.479
      @killin.479 Год назад +3

      yeah what you said happened with utd and tottenham. The only people who ridicule him are the english media and fans. Idk what it is with the english but they have some sort of superiority complex when it comes to achievements like “he hasnt done it in the premier league” or “he plays/manages in a farmers league” like you look at roma fans and those guys absolutely adore him, the fans support him, the club, the players and what do you know he succeeds. Its just the english being the english
