  • That OEM+ Look
Seiko Sunday is in effect. So, I got my Seiko SLA077 Marinemaster on my wrist. Still in the "honeymoon phase". I've gone for an OEM+ look by taking the Seiko DE39AZ20 rubber strap which would come with a Seiko SBDX001 Marinemaster and pairing it with my SLA077 Marinemaster. It's actually a strap I bought a while ago and this was the best watch to put it on in quite a while.
I'm loving the near complete white and black contrast going on here.
It's a true dive watch strap that is meant to go over a wet suit. So, I can forgive the extra length it has. However, it manages to just fit and wear well with the watch and my 7" wrist. Any much smaller wrist size may find the tail end top sticks up too far.
If you're into cars and the custom modding scene around them, you will understand what an OEM+ look is about. Quickly, it's taking Original Equipment Manufactured parts from a particular brand and using them on your own car of the same brand or manufacturer group. Usually these are parts that are from a higher factory option or another model line that is also usually upscaled from your own. You take these OEM parts and make them part of your own car. This, you create something that looks like it's made from the factory. Effectively, you have upgraded your own car to a certain degree with OEM parts, thus OEM+. At least that's how I'd describe it.

Thanks for the presentation. I love the look of my Seiko "pyramid" straps (thanks for the appropriate name), but even after putting them in boiling water, they aren't soft enough for long comfortable wear.

I have not had too much trouble with comfort. Yes, they are a bit on the stiff side. Just have it strapped on with a certain tightness and it seems to work for me. I think too loose or too tight will not work. Finding the sweet spot may be the key to confirt, if you can do so. I think the spacing between the holes are just wide enough where it's a challenge and may not quite work for certain wrist sizes if happen to fall in-between the set holes available.

I have the sla079j this has been my most exspensive watch and absolutely love it, ever bright steel, I like how they designed the way the crown does not screw into the case, but is a separate part designed to be replaced if it goes south

How you do compare this watch to the sla021 or sla023 build quality, comfort and appeal?

Sorry, never had any personal experiences with the SLA021 nor the SLA023.
For me and my 7" wrist, I feel both would wear larger than I'd personally want for myself. They're both wider and thicker than my SLA077. I like the more compact and sleeker profile of my SLA077. I'm also partial to having a more traditional screw case back so I can go in and make some tweaks to the movement if necessary . vs a monoblock case where you'd have to send it off to Seiko to have any servicing or adjustment done. I'm not messing with the front loading.
So, I find my SLA077 more appealing for sure. However, I get the SLA021/023 have that more classic look that a lot of mm300 fans really like.
