The Righteous Gemstones: Misbehavin' with Jennifer Nettles and Walton Goggins (S1 E5 Clip) | HBO
The casting of this show is nothing short of perfection.
FAXUAL!
The actors are amazing. Danny McBride has had previous shows with a sizable portion of the cast.
Actually crazy cast! So many awesome faces
You are so right 😍 can’t wait for more
Second only to the office
I’m so grateful Danny McBride and Walton Goggins found each other. Talk about a match made in comedy heaven.

Oh lawd couldn’t have said it better, I’ve watched this like 100 times. Love it
So fuckin true..its a comedy all the way thru until this episode it starts to display the heart and soul thats at the core of this show...but damn for real they made a great song. Stuck in my head for 2 weeks now lol
Jennifer Nettles' hand gestures and facial expressions are really endearing and add so much to this

That entire song by her was a joy to watch. I went to RUclips right away after the episode to rewatch again and again. In that episode, they compared the two to Johnny Cash and June Carter. Spot on! She reminded me so much of Reese Witherspoon as June Carter.
Watching John Goodman go from curdled misapprehension to genuine joy at his wife is a beautiful touch. This show just keeps getting better.
Michael Carrig..KEEN accurate observation !
And he has the same reaction when he watches his daughter perform with Billy years later, the direction on this show is top notch.
@@Bigfrank88 And what's also great about that scene with his daughter is that earlier Eli tells Baby Billy that he gets in front Aimee-Leigh instead of treating her like an equal. Then, later, when Baby Billy is dancing this song with their daughter Judy, he gets in front of her again, to Eli's disapproval, only for Baby Billy to turn around and encourage Judy to step up with him, showing that even the show's most despicable character is capable of change, even if it's small.
@@Bigfrank88 That was so amazing. This was the perfect setup to the emotional payoff of that scene in the following episode.

Eli’s fake laugh and then scowl is gold. Then the way he looks at his wife. He recognizes that she’s good and loves this but he knows it’ll lead to trouble.
John Goodman's acting really is great in this show. He is so clearly full of love for his wife and family, and there's also something menacing in him--but also profoundly good. It's subtle character work that could have become caricature in the hands of a lesser actor.
Sometimes he looks like Anton Chigurh in this clip.
@@TheLadyEve What a perfect description of his character. Every episode I've watched, I've been bowled over by the subtlety and power of his performance! I've always appreciated John Goodman as an actor but this show is a wonderful showcase of his talents as both a comedian and a dramatic actor.
Before I heard this song I was a driftless child hobo. Now I'm CEO of my own company, own a home and have a beautiful family. Thanks Gemstones!
I used to live under a bridge and knife fight hobos but now I run my own bakery in the village called Baker Bob's. Thanks Gemstones

After watching this show I came to realize that Walton Goggins is a criminally underrated actor. He plays characters so well from playing a trans woman in Sons of Anarchy, to his performance in the Hateful 8 and now this amazing role as Baby Billy Freeman. He steals his scenes in this show every time.
@@thereelpineapple Vice Principals :)
Goggins has always been top tier. I think his slight lack of recognition is good, it keeps Hollywood from casting him just for name and face recognition, so he keeps getting really interesting character parts like these.
ThwartedVillainy I think the only thing holding him back from getting big roles is that he is typecast as a southern guy. I have yet to see him in a role where he doesn’t have his southern accent.
The Shield as Shane Vandrell
Walton Goggins in the shield is the absolute best!!! And Vice Principals was hands down my favorite show of 2018
The scene where old baby billy is listening to this in his car is outstanding.
You can feel the regret.
Zachary Herrera has me almost crying the emotions were so believable in this episode
Goggins is incredible in any role he is given.
Tom Zimadowski AMEN
Notice he is still driving the same car from what was in his driveway in 89
This show might end up being Danny McBride's best work
Seriously good stuff
Idk about that east bound and down was hilarious I love the more dramatic shows he's done but can't top east bound
David Davidson i mean vice principals was also funny af and that also had walter goggins it it
I dunno it's still a little behind Eastbound and Down for me but I do think it's already better than Vice Principals. Hard to rank Danny McBride's best work because it's all so good. He has a really weird sense of humor but he makes it work, and lines like "Look at that. That's a ninja star, with a booger on it. That's beautiful. Love you, son." scream Danny McBride.
Vice Principals is hard to top.
The way Goggins really nails “...and I eat my GREENS” is pure genius. His character details are second to none.
Hes a genius at his craft
I love all of his little ticks and mannerisms. He's so good.
The flourish there really sells it.
Because it literally is second to none.
The way he throws a hand up in the flourish at that part looks Freddy Mercury inspired
Walton Goggin''s glorious teeth are perfect for a televangelist
I’m pretty sure he has dentures
His white hair is also very Evangelist like! He’s also got some mad clogging skills!
They are full-arch dental implants. He got his teeth knocked out when he was younger twice.
Everything Jennifer Nettles does with her hands is absolutely incredible
So true - great call - all her hand movements in the song are on point
She is so cute
The finger on another finger symbol she does is "shame shame shame on you" in the south
The little devil horns :)
Jennifer Nettles being a country star and a noticeably better singer than Goggins adds a whole extra layer to Aimee Leigh and Billy Baby’s relationship
That’s a great way to think about it
He needed her so badly. Just like the family needed her which you also get immediately from this scene. Amazing casting. This show didn't need the whole 'robbery' part of the Jesse arc nor the weaker Kelvin arc it could just have dealt with the various familly and evangelist competition arcs and be even more amazing.
A hundo..
It’s true she’s the better singer but I think Uncle Baby Billy is the better tapper of the two.
@@arjanpelleoh my god what terrible takes every part of this show is incredible
The writers and Jennifer Nettles did an amazing job with the character of Aimee-Leigh. Even after death she had a presence and was always talked about in the previous four episodes, and in this episode we see why. She was such an integral part of the Gemstone & Freeman families; the strong glue that was able to prop both families up. With a single episode we see just how big of a loss Aimee-Leigh's death really was.
RollingBomberSpecial Couldn’t agree more. And a lot of people are trashing this episode because it didn’t keep the story moving forward. On the contrary for me. You see how much Aimee-Leigh was the soul that kept that family together, and how lost they all are without her.
@@jdogy2002 I can't believe anyone would trash this episode! It is following the Game of Thrones formula. We want our flashback episodes, and this one was fantastic!
@@jdogy2002 I'm shocked anyone would trash this episode. IMO character development is a pretty crucial part of moving the plot forward. If we don't understand or care why characters do the things they do, the show won't be compelling.
Put a *spoiler alert on this*, homie
@@jdogy2002 who trashed the ep. I love the flashbacks
Anyone who’s ever acted knows that it’s especially hard to convey emotion and character when you don’t have lines in a scene. John Goodman is a master, look at him during the song. Every bit of him is telling a story. That man is a genius.

We all owe Walton Goggin’s a debt of gratitude for creating this caricature. Nothing short of genius and I laugh my lungs out every time he opens his mouth!
Even Baby Billy knew that Aimee-Leigh was the only thing holding it all together, even himself. That scene of him listening to the cassette is the most humanizing scene in the whole show
Nettles is a trained pro country singer & stage performer so I’m not surprised she knocked this out of the park, bur Goggins always impresses me here too
"Oh I don't think we're gonna take a break yet, cause guess what?! I wore my cloggin shoes!"
I've had this song stuck in my head all week.
Walton Goggins with the extra flair when clogging - just delightful.
This honestly made me smile so much. Goodman's frown melting into a smile, the good song, and dancing were too adorable
I loved goodman’s emotions during this scene.
Such a great scene, it perfectly conveyed how central Aimee Leigh was for the whole family's success. She was a legit talent who put on a great show, they are mostly schemers.
You’re right. Plus her stabilizing mood and groundedness really helped keep the family from flying off the handle.
The actor playing Aimee-Leigh is so wonderful, you really understand why the family all love and miss her so much
She really is lovely! Reminds me of some women I went to church with during this time period. And I ain’t gonna lie, I had this hairstyle and clothing choices as well.
This is my favorite episode thus far. I love flashbacks, the soundtrack was fire, Goggins was in rare form. The ending was deep. Classic.
I’m on S2E1, this is still my favorite episode. The impact it has in s1 was genuinely so powerful to the story

BABY BILLY!
Baby billy aint evil, he is just pathetic
@@ankursingh9548 HE AIN'T PATHETIC YOU PATHETIC
Joshua Edwards I see what you did there 😂
Nah if anything John Goodman's character is the truly evil one. Those who turned faith into a highly lucrative entertainment product, completely bastardizing the actual Word of the Lord at the same time. Goggins' character I think truly believed in the message, and the good will to men thing that religion tries to be about, but he had never really been as astute at business as Gemstone was so he just fell further and further behind, and then when his sister (who was married to Elijah Gemstone) ends up dying before they can take this song on a tour (which would've put some money in his pocket finally) he just finally accepts he'll be broke forever while instead he gets to watch Gemstone get richer and richer and richer.
This episode told us we need to take this show seriously. Goggins and Nettles are incredible, but also watch Goodman. His range of emotions in this scenes is fantastic.

Love the reprise at the end with the “original” cassette version.
The original was even better honestly. I loved the way the kids harmonized when they sang "misbehavin'".
"daddy won't you listen don't go missin im behavin"
the implied dark nature of dad leaving the family bc a kid is misbehaving is hilarious.
I think it it's a little more playful than that... like... don't go missin around the corner or something like how kids always want their parents to watch them do stuff. but surely it could be more dark as you say hahaha.

Goggins won an Oscar a few years back for best short film; he produced and starred in it, I believe. Walton steals the show during every scene in which he acts. I was thrilled to learn that Goggins would be joining the show by the third Gemstones episode. Love the show!
