I would like to thank all the people in the Bronx NY, Kool DJ Herc, Grandmaster Flash, all the founding fathers and mothers of Hip Hop and AreULookingAtMe for this funky mix
This is so dope...Talk about memories. A lot of people are posting supposed break beats on this website, but this is the real deal. This is JVC boxes (the one with the strap) and trey bags.
I'm loving this: The 45 King sent me a messaging saying "Yo dude love your mix , good luck with your up coming projects 45 king (house of the raising funk )" - in the words of Flavor Flav: YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BOOOOOOOYEEEEEEEE!
Im 47 and from the west coast .. i remember when the wave bboy came to town . I love the east coast vibe 100% better than the west . This music makes a statement to my soul ... i cannot hear this without gettin up and rockn ... my body doesn't move like this anymore .. but my SOUL does
Just listened to a bunch of Shadow & A.Skills today, came home ans stumbled across this on YT... this is dope my brother... Im gonna bump this in the truck tomorrow~! Much Respect !~
ah yes! well done...I made this mix many years ago from breaks that I'd sampled from vinyl many years before that! and of course I didn't name them properly! cheers for that :)
ManomanoMAN. I love a different kind of music, fusion of these kinds of breakbeats and funk with hard driving techno sound. What I'M saying is, whatever you love, whatever you hate, this is some pure FOUND-ATION.
SMH......This yo! This makes me wanna weep for hip hop! This made me remember what hip hop was for! What's it was all about and why it started! I'm only an 80's baby but I hate what hip hop has become! This is the foundation!! I miss breaks and B-Boys, and wild stylin, funky Fresh, & cold chillin and on and on til the break of dawn etc etc etc and what came from all that! #Killturnup!
Hey, I really love this mix, always come back to it. I was wondering if you could tell me what track the hi-hat pattern which is panned to the right and plays through from 1:27 to 2:03 is from? Thanks!
Pause Button! CRAZY! That is how i started making pause button tapes! 1977! Lived in Queens and went up to the Bronx and Manhattan every weekend! TRI STATE!
thanks for the props there! I'm based in the UK but got into hip hop and electro back in 1982. so I'm pretty old school yeah :) - followed my beautiful hip hop until around 1990 but (for me) it lost both its soul/vibe and its envelope/boundary pushing. Still love the breaks and (funk) drums in general though. cheers and thanks for the message
Holmes this is a massive mix. All the juicy joints. It's mixes like this that allow people to get an understanding of what hip hop is, and was until 1993. You tossed in my all time favorite break. Dynamic Corvette. Are you an old school original era SBronx cat or just a dedicated mix wrecker?
Awesome Kelsey! I have Produced and worked with many amazing and famous artists and your vocals are in a class with them indeed. God Bless you and good luck :) Chris
The best of the best,,your head is still on strong, feel me,,im 61 years old used to go to the Audubon Ballroom if you know anything about that then you know about Hip Hop
@Bumptiously - welcome home! :) thanks for the comments. re length of video: yeah when I uploaded to YT this was their rule then. I think it's changed now. Anyway, your comment has prompted me to add the link the 14 minute version in the description.
Grew up in the Lower East Side of Manhattan we didn't get along with the people from Madison Street in the early 70s but me and my people used to go all the way they spent projects that she the funky four plus one more Believe It or Not There was going by the name Brothers Disco at their time that means I go way back

I've spent most of my life and money on listening to the drummer give it some on vinyl. I've lost my house and kids but I still have the funk......
