Truly a dedicated man you are Leon to helping others expanded their knowledge, bring awareness to the gear available to them, improve their playing, and confuse the hell out of me! :-)
This is perfect timing as I'm still waiting for my FM3 to arrive - looking at my Airstep and wondering is it better to have it on the floor in front of the board like you have it or better to have on the pedal board (Rockboard 4.1)? Your explanations are fantastic - thank you for sharing your talents !!
Any reason why the airstep would not be changing anytihng? I have the yamaha MD-BT01 plugged into the FM3, both are connected to bluetooth. Airstep won't change anything. Does the airstpe have to be connected via Wired Midi? And then I would have to purchase the Airstep Lite?
Hi! What is it connected with?a bluetooth midi like CME widi master?and also another question.can you connect a wireless midi to fm3 and use bluetooth foot switch and send midi tempo from ableton at the same time ?
Can the airstep also receive midi from the fm3 so if you switch presets on your fm3 for example then you can tell the airstep to jump to a different preset?
Airstep has 2 expression pedal inputs - just seems to work with anything I've connected to it. BTW: also has MIDI in and 2 MIDI out ports in case chaining MIDI isn't practical.
Hi Leon, i bought fm3 and i have strymon bigsky and volante... I would now If i can Control the strymon units and fm3 with airstep (i dont have airstep) and changing the presets via MIDI of ALL units (maybe a vídeo ideia here )
Hi Leon, I bought an AIRSTEP it works great except I can’t figure out how to assign a switch to toggle a specific effect block...I want a switch to toggle my drive block, but when I hit the switch it changes the channel of my drive at the same time.
Hello Leon! Did you check how works X/Y with this midi controller? My AX8 shows with orange led that I changed block on Y state. Does Airstep show it? I was waiting for FM9, but size and weight of FM3+Airstep seems more suitable.
Hey Leon! love the videos. I just recently bought an fm3 and actually download a few of your patches on axe-change. Anyway, I'm having some issues with lag when I use the foot controller to switch between patches. Do you know why this might be or how I might be able to fix it?
Would be great to have that 2nd USB connector on the FM3 work with a wireless dongle to use FM3 Edit via wireless rather than use a USB cable. Cool gear but I think I’d rather get an FC6 with the backlit displays and color program features 👍
My brain is kind of foggy. Forgive :| The main controller connects via standard midi cable to whatever modeler? Wireless midi control happens only if you have the second controller and it's connected to the hard wired unit?
Exactly - Airstep lite will automatically connect to Airstep (the unit with hard wired MIDI out/in and extend it with 5 more switches). It's all seamless and the app just works. I've been using the Airstep combo to control iOS apps, PC apps, Amps and my AX8 (Just spent the morning getting it configured for the FM3 which arrived Monday). I'll likely pick up an FC6 or FC12 in the future but the Airstep is super convenient and flexible - highly recommend! Only problem I've found with Airstep - you can't seem to configure a switch to be triggered by a Press OR Long-press, Press will only send CC for the Press trigger but Long-press seems to always send the CC configured for Press as well as CC for Long-press. I'm using it for scene changes as Leon has shown but I wanted to use only one set of 4 switches to switch between all 8 scenes (Press on switches A-D for scenes 1-4 and Long-press on same switches for scenes 5-8) but Long-press always jumps to scene 1-4 before switching to scene 5-8. Maybe I'm missing something!
@@rodneyjones1539 thanks a TON for the clarification. This is a neat product. I have a Microdesignum midi controller currently that I don't use. If I did want to jump in; I would want the wireless functionality. It looks like you can buy the combo pack when it's released for $399. So it is fairly expensive. Not prohibitively so; but enough to where, especially in these times; I'd have to think hard about it to be able to justify it. It would be cool if there was an 8 switch wireless footswitch and a small midi "receiver" that could stay plugged in up in the rack instead of having 4 switches wired; 4 wireless.

Hi Leon, Check out a guy called Alec Bourne on RUclips. He’s doing a lot of testing with Bluetooth 5 adapters that may reduce the number of controllers here. Possibly sending the midi communication directly from FM3 to the Bluetooth Airstep.

Leon, your channel is criminally undersubscribed. You rock, man. Thanks so much for contributing your ideas and knowledge.

Very helpful with getting the Midi Commander setup. Couldn't find the MIDI settings through FM-Edit. Seeing them on the screen was great!
Glad it helped!
thank you , Leon im still learning about the fm 3 its great to have your expanded knowledge, im interested in buying the airstep

Is this the Airstep Play ? There are many version of Airstep?
Can the airstep also receive midi from the fm3 so if you switch presets on your fm3 for example then you can tell the airstep to jump to a different preset?
I wish someone would make something like this with a hard midi line and a mini expression pedal attached, like a downsized FCB1010
Airstep has 2 expression pedal inputs - just seems to work with anything I've connected to it. BTW: also has MIDI in and 2 MIDI out ports in case chaining MIDI isn't practical.

Yeah that's very straightforward to do.
Hi Leon, are you still using the air step? I was wondering if I can use this for both turning on and off blocks as well as to operate the looper.
Hi Leon, I bought an AIRSTEP it works great except I can’t figure out how to assign a switch to toggle a specific effect block...I want a switch to toggle my drive block, but when I hit the switch it changes the channel of my drive at the same time.
Is there any latency in the Bluetooth response?

I'm wondering in particular how you assign the tap temp to one of the pedals?
In the FM3 set a midi CC for the tap tempo (I use CC#33). Set an airstep pedal to the same midi CC.
Since this is midi connected, then it allows the preservation of using two expression pedals on the fm3 correct?
Correct!
"The basis of everything is a high gain rhythm sound."
Yes, Leon. Yes it is.
Leon is ther any latency when switching the airstep. How do you find it when switch in a song. Are you happy with it?

Could I use the Airstep with the Axe fx 3 and a FC6 at the same time
Yeah I've done that and it's fun!
@@LeonTodd you just have to run a separate midi cable to the axefx3 along with the mic cable for the FC6

Are we not able to edit midi onFM3-Edit?

A tad bit confusing....but I guess it makes sense once you sit down with the fractal.
Once it's set up it's magic though

Holy crap that music is bad though, especially the singer.
