    Hi Liz! Your videos are awesome. I am thinking of going back to school to earn my MSN to become an NP, and will be coming to the field from a completely different educational background (I already have an MFA and BFA). I've been looking into accelerated Master's programs in my area, however I'm paying close attention to what you're saying about getting some real nursing experience before becoming an NP. My question is, is this an option in most NP programs? Can you, for example, complete a couple of years of bedside nursing before getting licensed to be an NP, even when you have your Master's? Thanks!

    Liz I'm considering what to do about my 9-5 job and school. I start Assessment and Pathophys in the fall with Pharmacology and Psychopharm in the spring. I don't know if I can maintain 5 working days a week even for those courses, let alone once I'm in clinical.
    I want to be a good provider and wondering how many hours of work to do with 6 credit hours a semester. I'll be honest, my work ethic is not great. I find it a challenge to do homework after work.
    I hate to lose the hours but not sure what I should do.

    I was going for my DNP in pediatrics acute/primary care when another nurse I work with just graduated from the same program I am trying to apply for. Well, she has been trying for a long time to find a job and now has to move in order to look for work. Because of that, I decided not to go into such a specialized degree and switch to FNP instead.

    What’s the difference between having a doctorate and masters degree as far as schooling and skills?

    • @NurseLiz
      @NurseLiz  5 лет назад

      No difference in terms of skill. The difference is the MSN prepares you to understand and implement research into your practice. In DNP programs you actually perform a research project and go through the data analysis and everything. So if you ever wanted to do research in the field or go into academia you could do that. I have a whole video comparing the two if you are interested!

    Been watching your videos for advice and it has been great! I am starting my FNP program this fall. I am currently working a per diem job but full time hours as an RN. My question is, does it really matter what experience you have going into it or while you are in the program? I did nursing home then ER, then Surgery, and now im in homecare to kinda have a "cushy" job (funded by loans) to help me focus on schoolwork you know? I'm sure there is alot of studying to be done. I am tempted to take a full time nights position at a hospital (3 12's) because it can help pay better (reimbursement), and i can learn more i think? But the main factor is if the hospital experience while in school will be THAT much of a difference in helping me or? Thank you!! -Chris
