From a drummer to a drummer, one minute in I already know this will be good because you didnt spoil the song with impatient cymbal playing...thank you for sittung it out. Playing a full pause note is also playing ;)

Timothy, thank you for doing this and putting it out there for others in the kingdom to benefit from! This was excellent and helped me to quickly learn this song when I was brought in to play at the last minute.

Hey there Timothy. First off, thank you for providing such a wonderful, clear, professionally done tutorial of so many songs we worship drummers play. Simply seeing it done on a kit can answer many questions! With that being said, I've noticed you go to the lengths to copy these drum parts note for note when you play. I greatly admire your dedication and time it takes to do it. It is a high level skill. My question is do you think all drummers should strive to play it like the record, or imbue some of their own style? While I probably get 90% of the grooves like the record, and cop the recognizable fills, sometimes I wonder if my time would be better spent using my own ideas rather than trying to copy very busy parts/fills that won't be as memorable to the congregation. Thoughts?

      Hey Dylan,
Thank your for the kind words, I really appreciate it. For me personally, it was very valuable especially in the beginning to copy songs exactly, so that I can build my own vocabulary and understand all the nuances of worship drumming. However, when it comes to playing at church, my take is to learn the main parts/kick patterns/tom grooves as they are in the song and then have freedom with the fills and builds (as long as it's tasteful and not overplayed). However, if the worship leader wants a different arrangement, then always respect and follow the worship leaders direction. I hope that helps. Great question.

it's also, in the context of the original song, completely unnecessary and out of place.

am I the only one who feels that the roll that keeps going in the song is completely unnecessary and doesn't go with the pace and mood of the song. he plays it perfectly here like the original but I think the original drummer was just trying too hard to add something "cool" 😂
