About ten years ago I was a 27 year old sous chef who decided to go back to school and pursue illustration and design. It was nerve-wracking. Your videos back then were a huge inspiration. Happily can report that illustration and design are how I keep the lights on now. You helped that happen. Glad you’re still out here making art, man.
Holy shit I needed this comment.. literally in the kitchen now with illustration and design skills feeling like a labor zombie… I’m gonna keep this shit on my mind and work forward. Finishing this video and gonna do some drawing 🙌🏼💜
Dude, I am absolutely loving your art, your channel and your words! Phenomenal artistic motivation and inspiration. You have gained a watcher in me today my friend!
@@Woodchucker.kaleb.w Thanks, man! I’ve been keeping my nose to the grind stone, and looks like I’ve got a nice chunk of your videos to catch up on. Looking forward to it!
Thank you for this. It came at just the right time. I started my latest sketchbook with the firm intention of working in it every day and filling up the pages with stuff no matter the quality. I did one nice drawing and then job, life, family, mental health, fear, procrastination...you know the drill. 2 weeks and I've hardly touched the thing. So today, overwhelmed with my job workload and feeling a little desperate, I decided if I can get to a certain point in my current project, I'll give myself 15 minutes in the book. But when I got to it...nothing. Frozen. I moved the pen around a bit but my brain was spinning (ADHD here). I thought "I need some background noise" so I opened up RUclips and saw your video. It seemed like the universe was telling me something. In the 6 minutes while your video was playing I did more focused work than I have in the last 10 days. I'm not ready to say that I broke my own curse but it felt like I put a little crack in it! I am sure putting yourself out there with these videos is no easy thing but you should know: they are extremely helpful to others going through similar artistic travails. Thank you again.
Thank you for sharing your story! I do know the drill... I'm giving myself a few minutes a day to work in my sketchbook too. Even if it is just moving around a pen. I found that even if I just do that, pareidolia might kick in another day and like magic... I've got an underdrawing. It sounds like it was a bit serendipitous that you saw this video, and I appreciate you watching it. I'm really pleased it helped! Those little cracks amount to big things! I wish you all the best, and I'm sure you're going to do great just chipping away. I'll be taking tiny steps each day with you!
My whole life is a bunch of half started stuff. Turns out, I had ADHD the whole time and was recently diagnosed. It explains a lot. So I’d always jump to new hobbies that stimulated my brain. And doing something long form would always get boring too quickly and I’d hop on to a new hobby. I used to hate myself for that but now I realize I had a bigger battle I was fighting the whole time. Attention span. One hobby to another, then hot and heavy toxic relationship to another. Any quick dopamine fix! My point though, Don’t beat yourself over not completing tasks. You have a creative and curious brain. Which is awesome but also a burden. Try to just be happy and create, it’s not all about winning or losing. I’ll be here to check out whatever you’re up to. Another great vid bud, take care!
Thanks, Matt! I have a couple friends with ADHD who are convinced I have it too. I can relate to what you said, so maybe… I don’t know. In any case, I’m ready for some wins, so I’m gonna give it a go… and try to have fun with it along the way. All my best to you, my friend!
What's the back cover look like? You could flip it over and draw on the back like it's another book as an opposite to "Born to Lose" like "Dying to Win" or "Live to Win." Offset that curse. Duality of life and inspiration, hell, it could be two books in 1😊 Hang in there Special K! You got this!
Yep, it’s going to say “Live to Win”. But… I gave myself a task when I originally started this, that I can’t put that on the back until the inside is done. I’m going to stick with the original plan to give me something to shoot for. Stay rad, Kimberly!
Currently I am a homeless veteran. I finished my first ebook last year I filled it with fun and entertaining illustrations. I'm already working on my next ebook. It's fun to have things behind you that you saw to the end.
Oh man… I do not like hearing that any veteran is homeless. I am sorry and wish the very best for you! I am encouraged to hear that you are writing books! Where can I find the one you finished? I hope you are able to sell a ton of them!!!!
@KevinCrossArt minutes after my first sale the company who processed my payments sent me a notification saying that they would no longer work with me. I'll let you know when I figure out what I'm going to do. Thank you for producing such inspirational content.
@ You definitely will! I’ll do a flip through when it’s done, but in the meantime… I have a lot of pages to fill, and will be sharing a lot of them as I progress through the book. Thanks again!!!
3:34 ok I thought you were drawing ducks 🤔 😳 I, sir, commend you on the ability to transform these lines and smudges into art .🎨 Definitely a skill that you possess. Live to win!
Unfortunately, I don’t remember the names of the songs from the clip of me drawing the cover of the sketchbook because that was recorded years ago. The music for the new sketches is called “Cowboy Lullaby”. All the music is copyright free stuff I found on RUclips’s audio library. Sadly, the recordings of my music are owned by record labels, and even though it’s my music, I’ve gotten copyright strikes for it before. Just writing this is encouraging me to write more music that I can use on these videos. Thank you!!!

Thank you, Robin! I greatly appreciate that!
"Born to Lose" is a good Social Distortion song but not words to live by. I love the ET drawing BTW.
Thank you, Scott! Yeah… good song, bad mindset. Phone home!
Love that style👍🏽

This is so cool. I’m excited to watch your process. I’m working on an 3d animated short. Going to put pressure on my neuroplasticity.
Thanks, dude! I’m stoked to see how your animated short turns out! I’ll be rooting for you while I’m working on mine. Keep that brain in check! Ha!

Kevin what are the names of the songs featured ? Are they from any last bands ?

Kevin, have you seen Smiling Friends on Adult Swim? it’s top tier
I don’t sub to any streaming services, but I’ll look to see if there’s any episodes here on RUclips. Thanks for the recommendation!
