  • In this video, Sam takes a look at three types of Chainsaws: electric, gas, and battery powered? He covers the basic features of each saw and leaves it to the viewer which one might be a good fit for his or her work shop. It all depends on how a particular saw is used and what your needs are as you prepare wood to turn on the Lathe.

    Thank you for the review. I had a gas powered saw for years. It wasn't used often and usually gave me problems getting it started. A couple of years ago I got a battery powered saw. The battery saw is much more reliable. The battery powered saw is also much quieter. Both types are dangerous. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂

    Thanks Sam - I just switched over to a Craftsman. Battery Chainsaw, bought it at Ace Hardware, $150. I wasn't sure if it was a smart buy. Good enough for you - good enough for me. Thanks for your post.

    I don’t get a lot of time in the summer, so most of my wood prep/turning is in the winter. The electric saw has no fumes, so is a great alternative to gas. Also far cheaper than battery operated.

      Yes, I also have an electric saw, but it’s a little wimpy. I’ve had it for quite a few years and they probably make some saws with more power. But they offer some good options.

    Hi, Sam, I can't start a gas powered chainsaw anymore, so I bought an electric one with a 16" bar. I like it, but I find being tethered to a cord rather inconvenient. I plan to get a battery powered saw next and it will probably only have a 16" bar because I'm only 5 feet tall and can't handle anything larger.

      Well, I’m very happy with this battery powered saw. It’s a lot more powerful than my electric one. Just be safe Sam.

    How many cuts can the battery saw make prior to needing a recharge? St. Louis dumps log sections in a couple of places for residents to get firewood. I don't want to take a battery chainsaw over and find I can only make one or two cuts in a 14-16-inch log before taking an hour off to recharge. Sure, you can have multiple batteries but as you pointed out they are expensive.

      I think the issue is whether you are cutting 14 or 16 inch logs or if you’re cutting 8 inch logs. I do find my battery runs down when I’m trying to make many cuts in larger logs. I’ve only had this saw about three months, but I’m very happy with it. But I do find the battery does last fairly long time. Not sure if this helps Sam.

    for everyone i will explain whats up with all these tools and lets pick chainsaws. petrol you pick either husky or stihl others are no no, but today stihl went downhill means it brakes and desighned to be braken and not even easily replaced, husky some parts will brake to make more money, but not as big deal so this is about new stuff they release in petrol, old both good for usa friends stihl is not usa brand its German! they still think its USA brand. so about electric with wire internals are always cheap and not efficient and cord is like shoot yourself in head type, but they work and have power as much as you need. now about batery stuff tools and chainsaws. right now best brand is Makita as they where always where one of few top brands you where choosing makita or Bosch, but now Bosch seems left it similar to Mitsubishi cars and going to big league anyway. you want best buy Makita it will cost you tools will work as it should for very long time. now about other brands reality. many brands using big numbers meaning nothing like 36volts 56volts 80 volts whatever. they all making bigger number like its better wrong. right now technology only reached 40volts battery entering 80volts (40voltsx2) if brand says diferent hes lying. you cant make huge cheap non efficient engine to reach power for short gain, but have fuel super small and car itself small in size car will not hold. unrealistic, but if it helps sell who cares he can buy another car and another. you cant build today star wars cars which fly its not possible same for tools today battery and engine efficiency only reached 40volt and electric engine efficiency to be equal and not to kill battery. we only reached 40 volts with stronger battery not long ago. about husky and stihl they are not battery tool brands they are petrol engine brands sad reality. all those brands which are very young companies basically and many lie or simply dont tel truth. yeah we can reach big numbers in test, but our battery is dead. many numbers are hidden or not shown or they say smth and wont tell what they had in mind. basically anyone of you can make tool brand equal or basically same as dewalt lets say. i order parts from china, and japan and bang tool brand. have you ever guessed why all those toolsare so similar. Now makita is japan brand they have theyr own battery and engine dev team. i will explain there is in world 2 companies who make tv panel samsung and LG and they sell tvs , but they sell parts to other brands which use samsung lets say panel and competing with samsung so you think samsung sells same part quality ? i once watched non commercial channel arborist channel where dude is cutting trees real work not some test and what he sad while climing and working guys gave him makita 40volt arborist tool so he went up in huge tree and comment on chainsaw its still holds battery not flat? as he tryed other brands before. from husky to others, also he sad what its more noisy than others he was non stop talking like always and sad well it does the job dude loves petrol i think you get idea what guy it was and it wasnt commercial or smth simply ground guys had one they probably have tryed every chainsaw there is.

    electric saws can also cut through chainsaw chap's

    • @samangeloturns
      @samangeloturns  6 дней назад

      Thanks for the comment, I wasn’t clear in the video-the chainsaw did not cut entirely through the chaps, but only through the first layer of cloth. so I really think that the chaps protect very well and it would be very difficult to cut entirely through them before the chain stopped
