She sounds well, my skidding career started twenty years ago on a 540b grapple skidder in the uk. It was one of the first in Wales and boy was it fun. There's nothing like skidding a steep slope everyone else was scared of doing, point her downhill and let her go! Ours was a bit light on the backend until we water balested the tires and put some large ring chains on it. The grip afterwards was incredible, the stumps would be popping out behind the wheels. Some great times as a teenager and I will always remember the fun. All the best Gazz
Logger Wade just stared learning how to drive a skidder it awesome fun but alot harder then you make it look. I've been learning on steep hills so makes it exciting lol one stump can make things interesting
I always wanted to run one of them when I was a kid. Oh, hell who am I kidding. I love to get a chance to try one out now. You're a heel of an operator sir!!!!
It's just a habit i have always had i don't know why i do it. I have been picked on for it, i don't even know i do it. I have noticed though that more high strung people tend to feather the throttle worse than calmer operators. Something to bear in mind if you working on the ground.
Whew dude that is one mean sounding Skidder!!! If its that loud with you being inside the cab i can only imagine how loud it is outside the cab. Great Vid Bro
yea I think you will really like it. Its really easy to drive I let my 11 year old cousin drive it a few times by himself. Me and my dad also have a 2009 540 g3 that we got brand new since we got the grapple we hardly touch the cable anymore unless its muddy and the grapple is sinking. We actually had to move out of our last job because of mud now its raining out grhh lol
Just ran a skidder for the first time today and I can die a happy man now! I remember this video when it came out when I was probably 10 or something haha!! Just thought I'd watch it again to see how you operate the grapple and all. The 525 I was running has so much power its incredible I cant imagine how a cranked up one would be. Hopefully one day I can run at full throttle like it's an extension of my body just like you do! Thanks a ton.
Hahahaha!!!!! No I don't have alot of experience with a cat i have been to the factory. They are well built, that is for sure. I think they would be a good chiping skidder and they are working on the power to weight ratio. My oppinion and its just my oppinion is that a deere is great in select cut timber, especially hand cut select timber. Im really impressed with the tigercat setup. But overall deere has been great to us especially the GIIIs.
nice 648. I run one ive ran it for over a year now its great skidder its a 04 the only thing different is it has a torqe converter so there is no clutch.
Sheikh i'm flattered that you want my oppinion on this subject. I think that all the big three makes are good in there own way. I'll prolly stick with Johnnys because they operate quick and efficient and i understand them real well. If tigercat was faster they could be the best one out there. Cats are great too but i don't like the shape of the grapple tongs and i hear rummors about there electrical problems. In our area we stick with name brand for reliabiliy and service but thats here
nice vid bud got three skidders of this era easy on that inching pedal wade there a pain 2 fix sounds good i live in southern ohio lots of steep ground so the older yellow deere works better than the new ones cause there a shorter machine i like the cuttin vids
I don't know skidded pretty steep ground before. I have been on two wheels many times ain't rolled one yeat, this skidder has been layed on its side twice though. We don't do alot of steep ground
Since when did u use a Clutch with any Deere? We don't use clutch up here at all, well Lil as possible..the Deere with converter had problems! We have one now going soon!!
Kind of a dumb of question but which kind of skidder would you prefer on a personal basis a cat or deere? Btw I love you that 648 sounds badass good job man keep up the videos
Greetings Wade,I am a gonna ask you to say which make of skidder would you always want to have and why? There are Tigercat,Caterpillar,J.Deere,Ranger,Timberjack,Tree Farmer.Take your pick. And this is a cool video anyways.Cheers from Guyana.
dumb question from a guy whos just leaning to operate. do you tend to feather the throttle always? is that what I hear in this video? that something you recomend?
Quit using the clutch and for gods sake hold that gas pedal to the floor and keep it there. And what size tires? They look to be about the same size as th G-II I'm running and I have chains on them. And I hate them there to wide and catch all the stumps makes for a rougher ride G-III air ride seats are better as well
Hey I got a question, we've got a 2005 John Deere 640 g3 skidder it keeps taking spells it will run fine then it will die from starving for fuel but it will start right bk up with out having to bleed it, it's got new fuel lines , new fuel pump, new orings on the metal lines, we are at a loss on it, if any ideas or run into this problem before any advice would be very helpful, I appreciate ya and enjoy your vids keep up the good work and y'all be safe
Yeah under your cab is an inline little filter in the left little inspection door... It could be stopped up, you could have a seal blowed in the little Diffy pump, your front rear could be low (needs to be filled to half way). Last but not least you could have a hole or loose fitting in the big suction line that goes from the front rear to the Diffy pump... Could be one or two of the things I listed I guarantee that...
its a 2004 gIII its got two bottons by the gear shifter one for the declutch which i never use cause ours has a torque convertor and the other one is the diff lock. The diff lock light on the dash lights up but doesnt lock all 4 tires

Logger Wade any tips would be helpful thanks.
Gazza's fastrac farming are there any old Cat 518s in the U.K?
Gazza Ill be getting a 540b within a couple days pretty darn happy as its my first piece of big equipment!
I always wanted to run one of them when I was a kid. Oh, hell who am I kidding. I love to get a chance to try one out now. You're a heel of an operator sir!!!!
Sounds good. Your a fast operator no wasted time always making every move count
Thanks bud!!
This is my favorite video out of all of them
Man, that beast sounds mean! Loved this video, we don't use Skidder's over here in Scotland, but if they did Id hope they sounded like this monster.
Thanks Jeff the LD classes really paid off as a kid.lol

john deere is the king in the woods!
scott corwin they wish
....... John deere will be king in the woods if Tigercat machines disappear. Lol
Thanks for the input, i have only played on one for a second but i have heard another good logger tell me the same.
You got that machine turned right up. Sounds awesome!
Hahahaha!!!!! No I don't have alot of experience with a cat i have been to the factory. They are well built, that is for sure. Everyone wants to run a skidder until they skid behind a sawhead with 3ft stumps for a couple months
awsome Wade reminded me of how the john deer`s worked
I love a duel arch, but don't get me wrong the single arch is great in worser situations. I like having them both around to use when nessecary.
yeah buddy them are Generals... heavy 20 ply, out of business I think bought out by primex
thanks bud I really do appreciate the support

nice 648. I run one ive ran it for over a year now its great skidder its a 04 the only thing different is it has a torqe converter so there is no clutch.
Its actually called an "inching pedal"...used to engage and dis engage the transmission
Sheikh i'm flattered that you want my oppinion on this subject. I think that all the big three makes are good in there own way. I'll prolly stick with Johnnys because they operate quick and efficient and i understand them real well. If tigercat was faster they could be the best one out there. Nice rubber, good pull, black oak is heavy. You gots a nice machine there. Grapples speed you up like a full truck a day at least. Good luck buddy
Thanks Ryan
I don't know skidded pretty steep ground before. I have been on two wheels many times ain't rolled one yeat, this skidder has been layed on its side twice though. We don't do alot of steep ground
Damn don’t seem like 6 years ago. I remember watching this when first uploaded
Try to Clint thanks for feedback
hey wade dave from fb this reminds me of when I operated a timberjack grapple skidder for a firewood guy that was a blast
do a twin turbo or a much larger turbo. replace tires with tracks now you will have a monster
That engine sounds good!
Sounds like a fucking beast !
That skidder was getin it
I feel for ya bud!
good sounding rig. Hope you didn't find the next weakest link in the powertrain.
Watch that Glll work like nothin...Turn after turn!
You drive like I do. fast and on point
i ran out of space on the last one, all that im saying is yeah im ridding the clutch some but the clutch isn't like a normal clutch, it can take alot.
Hay bud i think the next one we get will be a torque converter, i have heard alot of good about them!
That's running hard now!

Damn I didn't mean to put "I love you" lmao I meant to say I love the way that 648 sounds lol
Since when did u use a Clutch with any Deere? We don't use clutch up here at all, well Lil as possible..the Deere with converter had problems! We have one now going soon!!
Was this before the Diffy lock went out and when you had to rebuild the transmission?
Kind of a dumb of question but which kind of skidder would you prefer on a personal basis a cat or deere? Btw I love you that 648 sounds badass good job man keep up the videos
Thanks bud
Haha, no that skidder had a 12000 axle in it and we converted it to a 14000. I doibt we ever touch it again. Thanks for the feedback.
Is this the same skidder that had the broken planetary gear hub? If it was it would kinda make sense!
Yeah boy I think screamin love it
the torqe converter is nice but not near as fast
sounds so good !
only one thing about a deere,if it breaks down while holding the brakes, after a few,the brakes goes out.brakes run off hydraulic pressure.
Park break is spring applied and it's got the power to stand her on her nose
Greetings Wade,I am a gonna ask you to say which make of skidder would you always want to have and why? There are Tigercat,Caterpillar,J.Deere,Ranger,Timberjack,Tree Farmer.Take your pick. And this is a cool video anyways.Cheers from Guyana.

did you look at the CAT 527 track skidder at the factory ?
dumb question from a guy whos just leaning to operate. do you tend to feather the throttle always? is that what I hear in this video? that something you recomend?

Howard they shut down the program, said that the obama regs got them it is still made in vietnam but just for foreign markets
Lucky devil lol!!
haha, yes sir.. hey I never claimed to be that good on a skidder, I just get it over with so I can get back to something else.
wade does that 648 have a true diff lock that spins all 4 tires?
Yeah buddy, they got clutches in the rear ends that lock up with hydraulic pressure when you hit the solenoid valve it pressures up both rears
hmmmmm ok our 648 doesnt spin all 4 when I hit the diff lock button ive spent times pushing myself out with the grapple something must not be workin
Yeah under your cab is an inline little filter in the left little inspection door... It could be stopped up, you could have a seal blowed in the little Diffy pump, your front rear could be low (needs to be filled to half way). Wait it is a g isn't it?
its a 2004 gIII its got two bottons by the gear shifter one for the declutch which i never use cause ours has a torque convertor and the other one is the diff lock. The diff lock light on the dash lights up but doesnt lock all 4 tires
drive it like you stole it
Haha!!!
