Hiking Solo: Sanbangsan, Geoje-si, South Korea

Another beautiful mountain located on Geoje island is Sanbangsan (산방산), at 507.2 meters tall mountain it is located in Sanbang-ri, Dundeok-myeon. Here is the approximate location:

It is a gorgeous climb with vast beautiful views to hold the hearts content of any would be hiker. Its a steep climb but warrants a plethora of exciting adventures and trails. The trail I took started near the Sanbangsan Biwon botanical garden, another highlight if visiting the mountain.
Half way up Sanbangsan you will come across 심신굴/부처굴 (Grandmother's cave or Buddha's cave.) 심신 is a traditional word for a grandmother who you can pray to for fertility. I did not partake in such events but you can see offerings of money and food which is quite interesting enough.
You will definitely have to work for it when it comes to Sanbangsan but there are alternate trails that offer easier accessibility, check out my friends blog post on it (www.hikegeoje.....
So get yourself out there and check another one off the list. My favourite spot is a pagoda near the peak that gives great views of Geoje as well as a quite shaded space to reflect, recuperate from the sun and eat some much deserved lunch!
