Good review man. I definitely recommend intense mode. It’s a whole other gaming experience and it’s awesome

If you like this game, I'm very curious to hear your thoughts on Deep Rock Galactic if you'd give it a try sometime! It's another co-op hoard shooter. With some fantastic procedurally generated caves, dwarves, lots of beer, and even more bugs to kill!
Love that game even though it’s extremely simple
i thought deep rock galactic was some sort of survival game?
@@ceoofgex7552 it is not, it's actually more of a resource collection, exploration and combat game. You spend your time delving through caves, mining gold and other minerals, and killing alien bugs. Pretty simple, but surprisingly fun.
@@brandonh6004
It’s far more complex than this game ever will be
Deep Rock Galactic is phenomenal, fantastic developers and community.
"I don't have two friends so it's a bad game" On a serious note though, they're fixing everything in the game. Cold Iron is a small indie company that wants this game to be more successful. We've already got the devs to remove several bugs in the coming patch
The matchmaking works now and is super easy getting people to play with you now
I was in the same boat. None of my friends wanted to play this. I got it nonetheless and added randoms I enjoyed playing with. Now we have a large group with plenty of people to team up with.
Just to add. I think it's region locked though. I play on SEA and when it's 12am onwards on weekdays. It's very hard to find a match
@@Surprised_Synth I actually noticed that last night. They definitely need to fix that immediately
This didnt age well did it.. lol
I think the synths are pretty good, because they make you think of your strategy and approach different than just shoot, you have to position your self effectively and be smart with which synths you kill
My take on the synths issue is that, like the Prometheus style mutants, they simply don't have enough game wrapped around them. (also going from one non-aliens enemy to another directly seems poorly thought out.) As a dose of spice to an engagement, they work well. The bits where it's a 3 way fight really are fun times. If they had more missions to work with, more space to breathe so to speak, it wouldn't be as much an issue.
1: The matchmaking with randoms must be fixed. 15 missions. can only join for 40 seconds for one specific mission. It will be impossible to join later when the player base dwindles.
2: Make the game more solo friendly. They must do this. I love the game. Playing with humans is fun, but as described above - playing with randoms will be hard.
3: Fix the bugs. Of course :D
But I must also say. I love the game.
I absolutely loved Alien: Isolation. I completely understand the gripes you had with the game and I agree with some of them. I also favor the original Alien to the sequel Aliens. Which is probably why I like Isolation so much. You hit the nail on the head when you said they complement each other and neither one is really better than the other. Which is why I still to this day think Aliens is the best sequel ever made. I’ve only played about 2-3 hours of this game and I really enjoy it. Not perfect by any means and heavily flawed, but the game knows exactly what it is. I really hope they patch in a FOV option like you stated. That shit drives me fucking crazy to the point where I don’t even aim when combat is really close. I’m sure the developers will listen to the community and make the necessary changes. Having better locations is a must as well. The prison in Alien 3 would be perfect. If they really wanted to surprise us they could adapt the planet and base from the recent Alien book called Alien: Into Charybdis by Alex White. That would be incredibly cool to see a depiction of that.
Stability: where your second shot lands (are each shot getting less and less accurate or do the bullets stay relatively close to the center and how much your gun "recoils")
I got my smartgun at 91 stability luckily.
So it's gun/shooting spread?
@@idontknowyet2875 stability is aim time when aiming down sighs combined with the recoil of the weapon. higher numbers makes the aim reticle close quicker. and recovery after a shot, particularly important on handguns and sniper rifles. where recoil is especially noticable with a single shot.
weapon handling on the other hand is how fast you reload said weapon, and how quickly and efficiently you switch between weapons.
@@paulthomas1585 Well, I wasn't expecting a fully detailed reply actually,
I don't play the game, but I was just curious so thanks for the details
Does anyone remember "Alien Infestation" for the DS??
It was a side scroller where you play as a Marine Squadron sent to places to take care of Infestations.
Catch was once one of your soldiers went down, you had to continue on with no replacement. So you really had to try not to die. Great game.
Wayforward made it. Wish it got ported to consoles and pc too like their The Mummy Demastered game.
Definitely better than Randy's/Gearbox's abomination.
Damn good game. One of the best in the franchise
More Stability = less Recoil , Handling = How fast you got into "Aim" , Accuracy = How much your weapon will spray
The extract mission on the 2nd chapter took me 5 attempts, because the horde of snyths at the end was a big challenge that was so satisfying to overcome
The mission gets considerably easier if you focus on the Synth Wardens to get the power cores as fast as possible and only use delaying tactics against the other troops.
@@vahlen5281 true, but I was stuck with the ai and they wouldn't stay under cover so I kept getting cornered by heavies and melee snyths
@@danieledwards4821 Yeah if feel you, the AI sucks when dealing with Synths

huh mayo liking a alien game i thought that was a myth
I would say 2021's biggest surprise was Tormented Souls. Probably the best RE style game we've had in years, it's like REmake 1 on steroids lol.
Aliens is my favourite movie of all time, hands-down and no question. You had me the moment you said the pulse rifles sound just like they did in the movie.
This may be a case of being somewhat blinded by my nostalgia but in this instance I'm happy to make an exception!😁
I’m not really surprised because of what I got after watching all of the gameplay vids and developer interviews.
I felt that the Coldiron developers where really sincere in their passion for the Alien lore and that it definitely wasn’t a cash grab.
And that they weren’t trying to re-invent the shooter gameplay wheel, but their primary goal was just to make a well polished 3PS shooter. I definitely gotta say that their goal was accomplished!👍🏾
Med Class to Everyone: "STOP PICKING UP MY HEALTH KITS! THEY ARE MINE TO USE to HELP you guys! COME ON!"
Here’s a random suggestion: Hardspace Shipbreaker.
An early-access, zero gravity, cyberpunk blue collar job simulator about cutting apart and salvaging decommissioned spaceships.
Stability = Recoil (for each successive shot you fire, how close does the bullet land to the previous one)
Handling = Movement speed when down sights or when you are not hip firing
These two are applicable to tactical shooters (The Division, MoH, CoD, etc.), certainly never to games like Doom or Quake.
thank you for bringing up couch co-op. this needs to be standard in games again!
The shout out to Resistance 2's magnum warms my heart.
It really is a sin that a pulse rifle that sounds and feels this good doesn't have the grenade launcher
Outside the movie weapons though, some of the guns just kinda dip more into standard shoooter territory and they are just kinda forgettable
I wonder if that's intentional, as to not take away from the movie weapons
They haven't done pulse rifles and smart guns right since AVP 1 and AVP2. AVP 2010 started the trend of dumbing them down, especially the pulse rifle.
The moment I saw that the iconic pulse rifle doesn't have the grenade launcher nor the correct ammo capacity, i felt disappointed.
It's pretty much a generic 3rd person horde shooter with an Aliens skin that didn't even get a AAA budget. It could be a mobile game with how little story there is and the lack of animations.
a lot of people don't like the droid sections, but I did find the cover shooting segments refreshing. My main complaint is they're just too tanky. Should be able to kill them faster.
Mayo, if you can, try Tormented Souls. It's an indie game, survival-horror, pays homage to the classic RE games and SH.
0:10 why is doom there
Lol. Oops. It's from a template.
@@underthemayo got it. love your videos, by the way. keep it up mayo
0:12 Oh you tease you
haha I asked myself the same question
Stability = Recoil. The higher the stats the less recoil you get while spraying your gun
Handling = How quickly you can zoom in, draw the gun out while switching and movement penalty when you zoom
Go to Load Out, click on either of your guns. Hover your mouse cursor to the bottom right where the stats are. The description is there when you point your cursor over them.
Hope this helps anyone who also had the same question as us!
I highly suggest playing this while listening to smooth jazz.
Love your reviews. Keep them coming : D
I want to go to a Robocop themed restaurant .
We have wildly different opinions on Prometheus and Alien Covenant. You see a director who's forgotten what Alien is about. I see a director deciding the old story has been told and introducing new ideas with new priorities. Watching those last two films as being more about the androids makes them a lot better. Also, when has Alien ever been consistent, all the films have done their own thing to some extent.
About split-screen, i feel the exact same way, i strongly prefer to play with friends sitting right next to me, and if the game doesn't have split-screen, i do not play it! thx for bringing it up mayo! Great vid as always
Developers tend to forget 2 individuals can play on the same PC. I know, astonishing.
You want to every game be like Streets of Rage 4!
So I'm kinda dumb I guess. I got the deluxe edition and I'm on the last campaign mission. I keep seeing people with the headset or the eye targeting headgear. How do I get that?
5:15 this is a very common "bug" that happens in *a lot* of games
To fix press the "alt" key again
Ran a search to see if someone already mentioned this, the Alt key's a great go-to if your mouse isn't interacting like it should.
To piggyback off of this, Alt+Enter 95% of the time switches between fullscreen and windowed and might allow Alt-Tabbing if the game's toggled off Fullscreen before loading. Still a bug that needs to be addressed, but this might work like a Band-Aid until then.
I feel like if they have another alien game, it should be a first person shooter metroidvania, and it should be in the style of Metroid fusion as in having the feeling of being hunted.
Great video as always. Your detailed review helped me realise whether i want to play this game or not.
They 'nailed' the sounds of the guns because they were allowed to use them directly from the movie. Colonial Marines was the same.
Your review is spot on. I think by the time they completely finish, we'll look back and wish for games like it.
Bro ive always loved doom and your videos, but at the same time ive always loved alien franchise and is amazing to know you are a big fan of the franchise as well 👏👏👏, great review
personally I think the creative vision of the engineers just overstepped the actual scope they could achieve with movies really quickly, reading the plans they had, it's extremely high concept sci fi stuff, it's poetic and intriguing, an entire race that reproduces by seeding life on other planets through their own sacrifice, with extreme reverence for all life and evolved beyond our understanding. but besides the stellar visual direction of the engineers, everything else around the new alien movies sucks, and it's a crying shame.
Because it doesn't work in a movie Alien = Horror, Aliens = Action, and Prometheus = World building. If Prometheus was a show and worked with Weyland-Yutani's backstory of being idiots with the best PR department ever. It could have showed the parallels of what the Engineers wanted and what the corpos were gonna do with it. Since in game Weyland once again is SUS as hell and that science guy we saved in act 1 isn't telling us everything
Have you ever played/heard of vermintide? If so, what do you think of it?
I feel the exact same way about Alien 3. If you watch the assembly cut, you can understand Fincher's vision instead of the muddled thing that ended up in theaters (which I saw in theaters opening night). Also agree about Prometheus and Covenant, needless films that detract from the universe as a whole. "David made the Xeno's" oh, fuck off.
Those two movies forgot the... "Art of Horror"
"David made the Xeno's" oh fuck off".... my thoughts exactly.
Regarding stability and handling. I instantly thought of Battlefield, where each gun has spread and recoil (of course this is present in many other games, BF is an example). Recoil is how much your sights move after each shot, and spread is how much a shot can deviate from where your sights are pointing. Perhaps it's something similar here as well.
stability is how much your gun moves after a shot, handling is the speed at which you zoom in while aiming down sights.
Deadspace Remake says: "That's cute."
Hey Mayo - Time to revisit this game for an updated review. Huge improvements since release.
I fn love this game..and I've never been an Aliens fan..good video Mayo
for explanation of weapon stats, you can mouse over it at loadout screen
Is stability just reducing the amount of sway the cursor moves when you fire???
What's the music playing at 04:17?
Handling Keeps the gun from rising
Stability Helps with spread Keeps fire group tight
really appreciate the callout to devs trying to kill local play
Had no expectations, am instantly completely addicted to this game.
I have to agree on the sound design they absolutely nailed the iconic gun sounds from the movie.
And I like the classes they seem balanced and they all bring something unique to the game and work well together.
As for the ending well they did mention DLC to the main game so I think that's where the queen battle will probably come in I bet.
Love the review. AVP2 was the greatest fps I played on my computer back in the day
Technician for the win my favorite class especially with the flamethrower turret
I’m pretty sure that stability is referring to your weapon’s recoil
Yessss resistance 2 magnum. I loved the resistance fall of man games.
I was with you 100% until you said how much you dislike Alien Isolation. I absolutely loved this game! It captured everything I love about Alien, a true horror masterpiece. I love both Alien and Aliens but prefer the first movie as it has a more serious tone. We all have our opinions though I guess? 🙂
He has a video on that game
Yeah I really don't agree with many of his points on that game. Isolation is a hell of an experience and does the Alien series proud.
I just want an Alien Isolation 2 or a similar horror game
Hey, Mayo. Love the review. One thing I noticed, though is a high pitched "wine" (maybe it's just something in the background like a/c) whenever you speak. It's very noticeable and I'm not sure if it was unintentional or overlooked. Look forward to more from you. 👌🏾
Also, I'm wearing headphones, if that matters.
Yeah maybe it's something that gets picked up on headphones. I'll look into it. Thank you.
Tech is good when you unlock more guns. Turrets are cool
Are you planning to play/review Tormented Souls by any chance?
I like alien covenant for one reason, the neomorph, i like how it white making it stand out, and I like how rabid it acts, instead of acting like a swarm like regular xenos they act like a rabid animal
Thanks for the video Mayo, always enjoy your perspective. If you would like a recommended co-op board/card game then Legendary Encounter Aliens is awesome.
Everybody loves this level of enthusiasm
You can make Vasquez in the character customization pretty easily
If you pick the right female voice she sounds EXACTLY like Vasquez when she gets grappled (It sounds like that sequence in the air ducts where Vasquez gets hit with acid)
Headshots are buffed in this game
Oh if you think the Engineers are bad in the films, just wait till you get to the comics. Xenomorph acid doesn't have any effect on them, so a single Engineer can take down an entire hive using nothing but their bare hands.
i fuckin admire your work mayo on reviews and your doom content and also for rembering the good times playstation had badass exclusives (yep im fanatic for resistance and twisted metal franchises) . this is why im sub to you, and keep doing this amazing work.
I think they will add more maps, enemies, classes, etc
for "minimizing" and going back to the game bug... alt tab back to the game and use your mouse to click into the game window to "activate" that window.. I've noticed in some other games that use unreal you have to do this too, simply alt tabbing back or clicking isn't enough, you gotta do both.
The music is amazing. You are tripping and it is not even Christmas.
they need to get the rights to add in some of the 90s Kenner action figure Aliens into this game
I think it's not that bad that the motion tracker's down there. It forces the player to do the same as the marines in the movie: Choose between looking at the motion tracker or aiming. Sure, it's inconvenient but it adds to the realism and immersion if you think about it.
even in the movies, technicians always the first to die...
Nice video as always, but I've got to say there's some kind of medium pitched noise that plays when you talk and only when you do. My head hurts a bit but it was worth it I guess?
surely a Robocop themed restaurant would only :
dispense a rudimentary paste that sustains your organic systems ... and tasted mildly like baby food !
As an UX designer I like to watch your feedbacks since it looks a bit like the way the give feebacks to interfaces.
Is it worth getting the game if you like games like zombie army
stability is spread of shooting, for sure
you might have convinced me to buy this game, just need to see if I can talk any friends into joining me
I pew pew aliens. I enjoy
I like the prometheus location, even if I was waiting for a decon or a protomorph alien in there, after the first ride I'm not fancy play those level again. There still to many bug's and for 40 $ wasn't bad adding some story video or real time situation, like chest burst born when you crossing the hive, could be better for that price but is a super nice game for me.
Regarding Stability and other stats, if you hover with your cursor over them the game will give you a detailed explanation. Stability helps with recoil.
I’m curious to hear your thoughts on the doom total conversion mod alien eradication
Weapon handling is most likely how fast you can switch to the weapon. I haven't played the game myself, but I play destiny 2, and it also has a gun stat called handling. It increases how fast you switch to the weapon, and how fast you aim down the sights. Since they are both multiplayer games, and they often use many of the same types of stats, that is probably what handling does, minus the ads time since Fireteam alien is third person. Oh and p.s, the matchmaking sucks because no one plays. Only 3000 players are online on steam playing it as im typing this.
This game was definitely worth 40$ . Was scared this game was going to get old fast or it wouldn’t have a lot of special enemies but it really surprised me. The campaign is solid and doesn’t ever get repetitive. I’d give it a solid 8/10
Not even worth $5
This game is a solid 5/10
LOL what's with the random bit of Doom footage at 0:12?
Splitscreen xD, these were the days.
Your name is Scorpion but with Doom Slayer pic? I'm confused.
Happy to see we share the same opinions on the Alien franchise.
I’m on the OG side but Aliens is without a doubt one of the best films ever made. What a series (until Fincher’s cut). You should check out the comics as well.
