Good video, I'm a pinstriper used many sizes on leaf. Trail and error.....I visited you country last year, ,,loved it,so much history ,Rome was awsome.
Interesting idea with the stick test. I just followed the leaf/size manufacturer's instructions on how long to wait and thought I was just not following the process correctly. Gonna have to try timing the tackiness of the size and see if I can get less wrinkles on the texture of the leaf. So thanks for that recommendation. As for the unevenness of the edges, I noticed that when I tried tape I also had the problem where the lines weren't as sharp as I'd have liked. I have no idea why this often isn't the case with paint, but seems to be with leaf. However, I did find that going over the parts I wanted masked off with liquid latex and then putting down the size helped tremendously to give me sharper edges. Not sure why there would be better results with imitation leaf than real leaf, as I've only ever used the fake. Also, obviously using liquid latex requires a steady hand, so that may/may not be an issue for you. And if you're using enough that the cost of liquid latex would be an issue, I've HEARD that egg whites were used back in the olden days before latex was mass produced, but cannot confirm. Anyway, thanks for your tip and hopefully I've helped as well :)
+Zak Hoskins yes indeed you have helped :) I guess that the edge is such a common issue that most ppl use the pin striping to cover it up :) unfortunately i'm not that good with the brush so that was an issue for me, i'll do a test panel with the latex. glad u liked the video man :)
great video!!!! Only thing i would say to help get sharp edges and detail on the bird is use a Pencil eraser to press the edges of tapeDown before applying Adhesive. It will help in fine detail places and crisp strait lines. :) as always loved the video. PS. I would love to hear some rage against the machine songs in the background on some videos ;) lol. thank you buddy keep the awesomeness rolling!!!
merci cez, i look it in a few minutes!! thank you and i try yoour methods!! i did see you for the result!!! pff my language is very punnnk (pourri in french= bye see you soon eric
Thank you very much for taking the time to teach! I have a question: if the gold leaf is to be part of an airbrush project, is it advisable to apply it first and cover it for the painting, or save it for the very last step? (I apologise if it's a stupid question)
thank you and there is no stupid question man :) The leaf requires a few top coats of clear because is very delicate. Also you should know that the real silver leaf will yellow (oxidase) pretty quick so don't let more than a day go by after applying it to clear coat it. I prefer the "fake" silver cause it looks just as good and it doesn't oxidase ;)
Great video man, thanks for taking the time. What is the time frame for beginning the 'turning'? Do you start on that as soon as you finish the application of the leaf and is there a limit? Again great video, and your accent sounds cool speaking English. Keep rockin'!
southpawje hehehe, thank you my friend :) what i do is have a test sheet next to me cause the timing changes depending on room temperature and humidity. So as u saw in the video i make a test patch of size to the side to determine when to apply the actual leaf, well, make it bigger and apply some leaf on it as well, so u can test on that wen the turning is nice and detailed and is not braking trough the leaf. In this project the leaf application took long enough that as soon as i was done applying i had to immediately start turning. Hope this helps u :) thx again, Cez
Awesome video. When you clear, can you use a rattle can automotive clear and do you omly clear on the silver leaf or would you clear over the entire tank as a whole?
foxbodylover7993 Thx Dude :) well i wouldn't use a rattle can after all that work cause they are unreliable. In this case i'd clear only the silver with a brush because the rest of the tank is a textured matte black. In most cases though the all tank gets' clear coated and usualy a pin stripe is used on the edge of the leaf to cover the imperfections along the edge. btw Merry xmas :)
+Jim Simeone hi Jim, i guess that was a different mean of applying it, i see nothing wrong with it although i'd imagine that the spray nozzle would get pretty messy pretty soon. Maybe it takes really good care of it every time he uses it.
+Tyler Harper hi Tyler, I'm the artist :) I wrote and performed all the music in the show. you can check out a playlist of songs here: ruclips.net/p/PLV71LsSNUG3AMmobzV88wGoRaKS7TG6CF
Hey there, thanks for the inspiring video. Just 1 question from me, what were u used to top clear it? Was that clear coat from powder coat or what, thanks before :)
I have another question, man (I know...pain in the ass. Sorry)... Here it goes: I only could find waterbased size around, and I have a deadline issue...is it no good for that kind of work you've done? Thank you so much! :)
No problem man 😊 no don’t use water based, you need to look for the “one shot” size. This is one in England, i don’t know where u are but I found it even in Italy heheheh rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.it%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F401453985592
hi custom cez, am french then so sorry for the langage, yet, super tutorial!! very good, i want just to know when? and after how many time can you realise the circle on your leaves!?( just before the cleaning with the paincil makeup to your wife!?lol) or do you stand a few minutes again, just before the "pose" or 15 mn later!! because when i try leaves rotted by themselves !? other ting what kind of material (cotton, linen, velvet etc !?) do you use for the circle tool!? "voila", then thank you!! bye macdoud www.macdoud-aero-project.com/MAP/Accueil.html
+eric macdoud Ciao Eric :) no problem for the language my french cousin (I'm Italian in Rome) i suggest you to lay some leafe on a spare piece so you can test the best time to start making circles without ruining the main piece you are working on. But it is about 10/15 min after you have put down the leaf. I used velvet for the tool and thank god for my wife :) hahaha I'll check your site out too!!! :)
+Custom Cez I checked out the site man, very nice. You might want to check out mine too www.verniceapolvere.it it is in italian and english too, I have the american powder coating colors :) à bientôt mon ami

To avoid waste, I use the narrow gold leaf strips from Chang Gold Leaf for pinstiping. Good service and good price.
+Silver Maple Leaf awesome man! I'll check it out! thx
Your video here has been very helpful and most easily understood! Ty

+Chris Yeager thank you so much!!! I don't know why ether, i think is because of the double language penalizing the search results in saome countries.

+eric macdoud hehehe no worries Eric, a pleasure :)
Bello cez è venuto bellissimo il serbatoio bravi
Is there a right side and wrong side of the leaf? I've seen 2 ways to apply it; some remove the leaf from the paper and also some remove it like you.
Thank you very much for taking the time to teach! I have a question: if the gold leaf is to be part of an airbrush project, is it advisable to apply it first and cover it for the painting, or save it for the very last step? (I apologise if it's a stupid question)

What gloss clear coat do u use with the brush
I love the video!!! Thank you so much for sharing.
P.S. Can I paint colors on top of silver leaf to create, for example, blue metallic?
thank you man. Yes you can, use a candy transparent and you can tint your leaf any color, of course, try some samples first.
hello just wanted to ask you what you think of this, i have seen on one video the guy was spaying the size on before leafing is that a no no
+Jim Simeone hi Jim, i guess that was a different mean of applying it, i see nothing wrong with it although i'd imagine that the spray nozzle would get pretty messy pretty soon. Maybe it takes really good care of it every time he uses it.
Please tell me the song and artist! I cannot figure out who it is. Awesome video.

That's ok
Is this real SILVER leaf? or aluminium leaf?
+MarcinM real silver unfortunately, it yellows really quick so you have to clear coat it right away. Alu leaf, imo, is much better.
he he he said tampon.
:D
Why did you add me to you're circle ? I thought you didn't like me,lol you are funny even tho you can be a jerk.
Heather Weston sorry, youtube top fan circle automatically added you, the algorithm didn't know your comments were rude
