- This is an unedited video of me trading the FTSE and the DAX for a two-hour period. I am in this period selling short, then reversing long, and then reversing short again. I have losses for the first few trades of around 5000 euros and 2500 pounds. I make about 7000 on shorts in DAX and about 18,000 pounds on shorts in FTSE. I short DAX again and lose about 4000 euros. I kept some FTSE open as the video ended.
It is a pretty laid back and slow session, but I am glad I recorded it for 2 reasons:
1/ it shows me analyzing and making decisions in real-time.
2/ It shows me aggressively building a £2,000 a point short position in the FTSE, starting from £300.
3/ It shows me talking about dealing with patience and impatience.
4/ It brings to life some of the important things I look at, such as failure retests, the hourly close, and that I too have losing trades and sometimes (often) make costly decisions - in spite of them winning overall.

37:00 - sure about short in FTSE - severe doubts about long in DAX
37:36 - adding to short position in FTSE - still stupidly holding on to long DAX ☹️
39:40 - adding more to short position in FTSE
40:40 - explaining why I think I need to close the DAX long position and go short. I am losing €5,000 on DAX long. I go short.
41:48 - adding to short position in FTSE
48:00 - closing DAX around this time for €7,000 profit - the moment I close it, I sense I have made a mistake. I am still short FTSE.
56:00 - I have shorted DAX again, and I have taken some profit in FTSE and I have £22,000 in open profit.
1:11:00 - beginning a long rant on trading course providers. I realize I have done it all wrong. I could have done it in “just 15min” 😊

No hyperbole--this is the best trading video I've ever seen. The reasoning, the willingness to change your opinion when the market changes, not dwelling on your losses, being disgruntled when you got out of the DAX position too early (and going against your philosophy of squeezing more when you can), showing how tedious and taxing daytrading can be. It's all so relatable.
I was surprised that all you use are marketable limit orders and not resting limit orders. 🙂
Tom, amongst many things I like about you is just your level headed honesty with how trading is, and should be with respect to taking the hype out of it! Keep the videos coming, because I spend much time listening to what you are saying, cheers

Problem is, that all those courses are held by people that are making a living of it - or trying to. They claim to have the knowledge of how to get rich in trading, but they all have to earn money on courses in stead of trading them self!!!!!!!!!
There is only one person in the world that I know of, that is teaching trading without requiring payment, because he is making his own money by trading. Tom Hougart. And I have been on RUclips for many many years. I know the market.
Tom is honest deep deep into his hart and he wants to help. I do not understand what is driving him, but he is honest and he does want to help traders which are keen on being profittable.

Funny, too. Looking at a google search for day trading courses, and Tom reads one title "daytrading secrets" - and comments "never heard that one before!", and then titles his own video "Secrets of a High Stake Day Trader". I am guessing this is humor on his part - I had a laugh from it anyway.
I would have liked even more explanations to his decision to enter a trade. Sometimes he just says "I'd like to enter a trade right here". Sometimes we get the why, sometimes not. Or maybe I just missed it, I don't know.
Tom is such a character. His down to earth attitude is so humbling =3

I think you are right - we NEVER said this is a $500 course for beginners. But I noted your point - should we make some beginner stuff or not. Do we really want to spend time with beginners who are too lazy to learn at least the basics? Good point and Tom and I really never disused it.

at 7.30 there was huge bullish momentum and then that was corrected where you took the first profit because of potential resistence. What is your experience with those momentum candles, are they not always corrected?

what leverage is he using and when it says 100, is this dollars? So he's trading 100 at a time?
Tom uses leverage 200:1. This account is based on the product. So Dax is traded in Eur Ftse is traded in GBP: prnt.sc/Ieem_B42DnRc
Tom how come you trade on trade direct 365 and I'm on TD 365 but yours looks different to mine. I wish mine also showed the notional value of positions like yours does.
to make it short you are not supposed to trade with th365 from Canada.
Hey Tom, first off i want to say that i find you to be very inspiring, and im also curious about what your advice is to new traders just starting out?
It is hard to put some 16-17 years of learning into a few sentences. I have no clue where you are in your life, work situation, and in your trading. But if I should start all over today I would trade something VERY basic like selling double tops on a high time frame. And work with my mindset/psychology 70%-90% of the time I have for trading.
Something you should be really mindful of is your own mind is your worst enemy.

No just an old habit. I tell you, Tom was in a panic once his 3-year-old daughter messed up the colors while he was on the phone.

Tom doesn't use indicators at all. In principle, you can trade this way in any time frame you like.

Even if it look like a demo account (I have no reason to believe because online people have shown to do the most to fake), however showing trade live is rare and showing their PL is also rare. But in my mind if it is a demo account, the result I would take it as a grain of salt
