Some players would be voting for their friends/teammates. Can't have the fans vote cause it'd be a popularity contest like the ASG. I think they should set some requirements with a point system. Stuff like game winning shots, team record, stats, performance in the last 5 mins of games, etc, etc. And set the pt system like if a player averages 30+ ppg they get 2 pts, 20 ppg is 1 pt. I mean, I DO think you can make a case for SGA. A very substantial and real case. So many players are having so many great seasons. Jokic has a +18.9 points per 100 possessions that he is on the court. That number is double and in many instances triple than anyone else up for the MVP award. It's that easy in my book. I would be really happy for Luka if he won mvp, but I think Jokic has a better case because Denver has been consistently winning for a larger portion of the regular season compared to Dallas, plus Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon missed a bunch of games. Jokic also has a far better field goal percentage than Luka, less turnovers, better free throw percentage, and better advanced stats. SGA has good mvp case too if OKC gets 1st place in the West.
In the months of Dec and Jan Mavs played 30 games without five 20+ min players, Kyrie, Lively, Green, Maxi, and Exum. Luka was able to keep the Mavs in playoff seeding during that time, and they have one of the best records in the NBA after those players got healthy. Luka's stats are insane this season, every player on his team does better with him on the floor, he is responsible for 59 points per game... Highest ever. Joker is good, but I think people are not watching Luka play if they think Joker is MVP.

As a Knicks fan, I would put Brunson at most 2nd team. I also wouldn't put Brunson in the MVP conversation for the sole fact that it discredits the Knicks' Next Man Up Mentality with the rest of the supporting cast stepping up during Julius', Mitch's, and OG's injuries. Rebound and assist numbers are so inflated in this era. They need to add a "contested rebound" stat. Not that it matters, players are so weak minded these days. Can't wait for massive changes to the league once "you know who" retires.
There are only a few contested rebounds simply because NBA teams now play with 5 guys open and doesn't usually go to get an offensive rebound. Then happens that USA team is caught by surprise when they play against FIBA national teams that throw 3 or 4 guys every time to get offensive rebounds. They are not used to.
I do think it's interesting that Luka's on court impact isn't as big as you'd expect with all his stats. He does make the Mavericks better but his impact is about the same as Kyrie's in terms of on off splits and he doesn't even come close to SGA and Jokic or even Giannis. However, those are the only 3 players who have a reasonable case as being above him this year so he should be 1st team all NBA

I think they should set some requirements with a point system. Stuff like game winning shots, team record, stats, performance in the last 5 mins of games, etc, etc. And set the pt system like if a player averages 30+ ppg they get 2 pts, 20 ppg is 1 pt. Could do the same with assists, rebounds, shooting, etc.
I know some fans would not like this but I feel it's needed. It would eliminate all this media narrative nonsense and the racial stuff.

I would be really happy for Luka if he won mvp, but I think Jokic has a better case because Denver has been consistently winning for a larger portion of the regular season compared to Dallas, plus Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon missed a bunch of games. Jokic also has a far better field goal percentage than Luka, less turnovers, better free throw percentage, and better advanced stats. SGA has good mvp case too if OKC gets 1st place in the West.
In the months of Dec and Jan Mavs played 30 games without five 20+ min players, Kyrie, Lively, Green, Maxi, and Exum. Luka was able to keep the Mavs in playoff seeding during that time, and they have one of the best records in the NBA after those players got healthy. Luka's stats are insane this season, every player on his team does better with him on the floor, he is responsible for 59 points per game... Highest ever. Joker is good, but I think people are not watching Luka play if they think Joker is MVP.

Personally I think it's clear as day that Luka is the MVP, I think people got so obsessed with advanced metrics and efficiency. Can we just ignore the fact that this guy has averaged a 34 point triple double and fully carried his team when his only star teammate was out for a big part of the season? First of all, the media has proven to be straight racist, they'll tolerate a Dirk or a Jokic that are unorthodox big men with high accuracy, but a guard like Luka that toys with opponents, that they just can't take it seems. Secondly, I really do believe that the whole - secondary stats / efficency / advanced metrics - has gone a bit out of control. There has to be a line drawn somewhere to define when efficiency is not more important than buckets. Otherwise if I step on the court, take one shot and make it then just pass it around for the rest of the game, I end up with the best efficiency - hence I'm the best player? (that's an extreme example, not referring to Jokic - I think he just doesn't care about stats and plays to win).

Rebound and assist numbers are so inflated in this era. They need to add a "contested rebound" stat. Not that it matters, players are so weak minded these days. Can't wait for massive changes to the league once "you know who" retires.
There are only a few contested rebounds simply because NBA teams now play with 5 guys open and doesn't usually go to get an offensive rebound. Then happens that USA team is caught by surprise when they play against FIBA national teams that throw 3 or 4 guys every time to get offensive rebounds. They are not used to.
I do think it's interesting that Luka's on court impact isn't as big as you'd expect with all his stats. He does make the Mavericks better but his impact is about the same as Kyrie's in terms of on off splits and he doesn't even come close to SGA and Jokic or even Giannis. 2. Did you know that if you combined the free throw differential of the teams in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place the Lakers would still have a comfortable lead over that team?
3. Did you know that the Lakers have shot more free throws than their opponent’s in 22 out of the last 23 games? The one game they shot less was by 4 free throws.
