I just got my hands on a Diana F+ today and was watching any related RUclips videos when I came across yours. It seems you were missing the vignetting and had large gaps between frames on the film due to the 42x42 insert still being in the camera. You could've shot 16 frames with that. Enjoyed your video very much - especially the humour. Subscribed. 📷😎

dont know if it counts as a toy, but rather like my Holga S. with the right light it takes an ok picture.

You're really hyping up that Holga, Don :)

@@patternsinsand well as long as you know your going to get a flawed image, it kind of has its own charm. Wouldn't use it everyday, but once in a while it's rather jolly.

I want to call the Agfa Clack my toy camera of choice. Though I am not shure if calling it a Toy camera is correct. Maybe it’s more a fancy box camera.
But it got some decent results and 6x9 is really a cool, but also expensive, format.
    😊

I havne't tried the Clack but it's a cool camera and I like the bakelite aesthetic.

@@patternsinsand i have always a lot of fun when taking the Agfa clack out🤗 it’s lens is also surprisingly good. And as the camera is almost as expensive as the film to put inside, the deal is good. :-)

Tried the Diana - it is crap. The pinhole has the wrong size, the results are not what you can get out of pinhole photography (I guess it is too large so that exposure times are short enough to be taken handheld in bright sunlight). And the light comes in at the levers. Edit: Send too early! You actually came up with the Agfa Isola at the end - and this provides a much better image quality than I though it would have! It has a triplet lens (glass, no less ;-)) if I'm not mistaken, or at least a double meniscus of decent quality. And this retracting tube is pure genius.

The oversized pinhole explains a lot. It's not something I really see myself using in the future. But yes, the Agfa Isola is great - the specs aren't anything to write home about but as you say, it actually has a glass lens and you can get some great results out of it.

I'm glad I watched your video Mark because every now and then I get the notion to get one of these 120 toy cameras whether it be a Diana or a Holga. I do get seduced by the groovy talk about their distinct charm and the individualistic images they can produce. B UT the cameras seem high risk and problematic and when push comes to shove I just cannot buy one. I just like the idea of them!
I think I'll stick to my Polaroid cameras who unpredictability and "charm" is enough for me.

... and I love the idea of polaroid but then I add up the cost and think about the fuzzy output. That's my Holga moment. I haven't done a video yet but if you're looking for something a notch up but with the same lo fi charm, maybe consider an Agfa Isola with a glass lens. Thanks for watching.

I think a fart at 1:01 would have really worked well.

I don't have a Diana but if I can find one used and cheap, I'd buy one. What AGFA camera did you show? I liked the pictures you took with it. Great video.

Thanks. It's the Agfa Isola (mine is a version II) - modest but yes, it's actually capable of some nice photos.

i thought they are called Holga? I guess same same but different.. I didn't mind it. You got some good shots in the end.. Plastic lens is what stuffs it.. those old olympus six cameras look good... scrotum 🙂

    • @patternsinsand
      @patternsinsand  Год назад +1

Same same but different to Holga. Folding 120 cameras are probably the best bang for buck in the competition and yeah, might be my childish sense of humour but there's something inherently funny about the word scrotum.

My heaviest box of cameras are cheap point and shoots - 60's, 70's, 80's 90's, all of which produce better negatives than the Diana. In truth anything that says 'Lomography' on it I will avoid. The Isola isn't a bad camera really and its incredibly light as its made of aluminium.
Funny, I thought I was the only person to have a kangaroo's scrotum - as a coin purse. I probably am in Britain.

Who knows what people are going to do with their kangaroo scrotums as we move to a cashless society. They're probably more durable than the Diana, though.
