When that sound started out after a quiet-quiet section of the music, I was like "FFFFFFFFUUUUokwhatthehelljusthappened". One of the better musical jump scares.
I just played some of the first Doom and I think Doom and Doom 2 have one big difference between them. (UV, only played a portion of the games) In Doom 1, the game is easier, but far more atmospheric. There are plenty of situations that have me all like "this is DooM, WHERE ARE THEY??!" In Doom 2, the game is harder, but less atmospheric. This is because they just pump each room full of enemies, not giving you any downtime between areas. Both are fun times, but different.
0:28 - You are used to source ports. One can easily get spoiled by the high resolutions and fluid movements :) But still, playing Vanilla Doom in DosBox is a magical experience. That's how you get in touch with the true spirit of the game.
I disagree, it works well here, this song is very dark and intense using the OPL midi, When i was a kid this level used to scare the crap out of me because of the song (same with Halls of the damned E2M6)

TNT is harder than doom II because of the levels and Plutonia experiment is Harder then Doom II and TNT combined because of the enemies placement
