I've rewatched this series so many times over the past couple years as both inspiration and reference. Finally did my first races at my local series this weekend and loved it. So many great pointers throughout the entire series (e.g. traction dictates line choice) and really appreciate Matt putting himself out there. I think it's fair to say that I wouldn't have taken the plunge without this. Belated but deserved thanks for putting this together! Love so many of your videos, but this has to be amongst your best projects.

Haven't come a-cross (ever so sorry) such a likeable as well as capable team of presenters in a fair while. It must be noted however that a fairly smooth layer of dirt across their faces seems to make these items all the more fun to watch.
So great to hear even Matt gets pre race / on the line nerves. A vid on how to deal with them and mentally prepare for a race would be awesome
"I feel better now I'm not riding anymore" Type 2 fun is best fun!, cyclocross is definitely in this category.

Hats off to Matt for taking on a super tough cyclocross race in a very public fashion. Not a lot of people could have the confidence to go from success at the very highest level of cycling to trying something new & technically challenging like that. And in such a visible fashion! No hiding. Makes for great RUclips, though!

Throwing a road biker like Matt straight into his first cyclo cross is like giving a mountain bike to Contador and expecting him to compete with guys in the UCI MTB world championships, two completely different disciplines, i think you did well mate, would like to see you do it again as i'm sure you'd have more success the second time around

Had my first cyclocross race today. I raced on a mtn. bike, but still finished 4th out of 5 in my category.

Kudos to Matt Well done, but your series on cyclocross has pushed me the other way. You have thoroughly persuaded me to give up my cyclocross aspirations.
Nice one Matt, takes a lot of guts to even enter a race that hard as your first cyclo cross! I had the same problem last year when I entered my first road race, completely out of my depth and didn't even finish but I still loved every minute of it where I was actually in the race!

Seriously one of the best cycling video series I’ve seen thus far on GCN and RUclips. Tom and Matt did a fantastic job (especially for cross newbie Matt). I was drawn in for the start of the first video in the series and it really drew me into the build up and the race itself. Great channel, magic presenters and a proper challenge writ large on the small screen. Excellent!

I have a similar experience.
Did a few cross races in the 80s on MTBs.
Thought it would be fun 25yrs later.
Bought a x-bike.

Epic effort Matt! + great to see such a high profile cycling event in MK. Would love to see a road race in the city, especially time trial. That grid system interlaced with the older village lanes would make for some epic racing.

Have to say... this has been my favorite GCN series so far. I learned a lot about cyclo-cross and it was a blast watching Matt trying to figure it all out. Well done GCN! I'd love to see more series like this. Any chance you could do something like this for the 6-day races or any kind of indoor track riding?

I never knew, until watching this video right now, that cyclo-cross allowed the pit-stops to switch bikes. In half of the the cyclo-cross races I did in Pennsylvania, it was the beginning of winter, so snow would fall, but the mud would be thick and totally cake up the rear derailleur and rear wheel. I thought pulling the mud and sticks out of the bike while pushing or running with it was part of cyclo-cross.
What was really nice to see was Matt's determination.

For me the worst thing in ciclo cross is to be all the time planty of dirty and to clean my bike all the time i finnished my trainning or ride. I love to see my bike and my wear perfect and clean. I respect you.
The fact that these guys are actually giving matt credit lets you know the course was super hard and he really put down an effort. If he had done any better or any worse, they probably would have made fun of him more lol.

Great cyclo cross series, you should do a TT Series and cover everything from choosing and fitting aero bars, sizing, saddle hieghts and training and racing
