Ich habe zwar nach einen deutschen yputuber gesucht der anki mal, erleutert aber dein Kanal ist bis jetzt der beste darin, eine menge an funktionen, verständlich vorzustellen. Wieter so!
Thanks for making this. I was making some cards today and didn't want the cloze to show all the context. I googled around and found your awesome addon. THANKS SO MUCH

Hey thank you so much for this add-on! It is so much easier to memorize a list now I can't believe it. Total game changer! Personally I don't find it matters too much if I am using ordered lists or not, I can memorize a whole list of unordered items much faster with the cloze overlap feature.
Hats Off! If you didn't have done all these add-ons. It would have been a tedious & difficult for us to learn through Anki alone. Thank you, soo much!!!
I do a lot of biochem and there are a lot of pathways, but they cant be written in text cuz they're all too complicated. This is a wonderful idea and there should be an image version of this. Cuz so far with image occlusion enhanced I can either get too much context or no context. We need something like this for diagrams. Also great execution.
Big kudos for this man, this is a fantastic add on and a great video, your contribution is very much appreciated. Thanks from a United Kingdom subject.
I found a bug: If you have an ordered list with a tag within a list item (e.g. 4. The parent waits on the child, receiving its status.) when the clozes are generated that line is split up: before the tag, the inner tag, and after the tag, so point 4 is split into 3 cars.
wow, it looks really awesome! I will definitely download it and use it for study. Thank you really much, i really appreciate your anki-addons. great work!
For some reason, the pilot list is so much easier to remember than the viral list you showed for me. I think it has to do with me having a better grasp on the spatial, concrete understanding of the components involved in an airplane than in the viral one, which is at a microscopic level and is often merely represented in schematics rather than anything concrete. It's kind of interesting. Maybe I need to add more visuals to Anki. It takes a long time, though (to find good pics, that is), and I really just want to cut down on time spent on preparing study materials if possible and maximize time actually spent on studying.
Does anyone know how do I get the arrows instead of the "show answer" buttons like displayed at 7:50 with cloze overlapping ? And what is the difference between them ? Thank you

Hey, when i use the cloze button to customize what i want to be the list and i what i don't want to be in the list, it doesnt work and it says i can "only use cloze in a field that is compatible with cloze", even though i am using cloze overlapping. Is it normal?
Tolles Add-on!
This is a great add-on thank you. Is there a way to have a cloze overlapper like function in image occlusion enhanced. For example, if I were memorizing a pathway i.e. glycolysis, there are a lot of excellent figures out there I would like to be able to occlude in this fashion.
Hey John, there is no native way to use Cloze Overlapper on images, but I do plan on eventually extending Image Occlusion Enhanced with the same type of functionality. Until that is the case, though, you could employ the method described in the following comment where you simply edit the image to replace the labels with numbers and then refer to the numbers in your overlapping cloze: ruclips.net/video/ag4Hdnkig8U/видео.html&lc=z13btfwazrulvfhin04cgv2qxvmkvlmglw40k
Wirklich unglaublich tolle Arbeit die du da leistest! Eine Frage ist mir aufgekommen: ist es möglich, der Liste Unterebenen beizufügen und falls ja, wie? Also bspws Punkt I Punkt II Punkt a) Punkt b) Punkt III
This is awesome! Thank you!. I currently am making cards for Metabolic Processes and was wondering how can you keep them together (So they show up in order)? My problem is that my deck is a "Metabolic" deck where I keep all my metabolism questions inside of it. When I study them, the cards show up in randomized order (Instead of starting at Oxaloacetate for the Krebs cycle it starts mid pathway then it skips around). Is there a way to fix this?
So the bad news is that, as soon as cards leave the new queue, Anki's scheduling kicks in and randomizes all reviews. This is something that can't be changed easily. You could try using a filtered deck and sort it by creation date, but that's a workaround at best and comes with a lot of other caveats (e.g. cards in learning being reset once moved to/from the filtered deck). My best advice would be to just try to deal with the randomized order for now. The great thing about the add-on is that it always provides you with the pertinent context. So even if the cards appear out of order you will still learn to recall the items in sequence.
hi glutanimate. First of all, thank you for your add ons and videos, they are really useful and have helped me explore and use anki and make flash cards in a very efficient way. I wanted to ask you something regarding the cloze OL: When I put it in my decks it does not present the list in order i.e. it interposes another random question from the deck and therefore I do not get to practice the items on a given list consecutively (which i think would increase retention). How do I solve this problem?
also, sometimes I change some old cloze OL cards Ive made, and when I return to studying it says: ''the front of this card is empty'' ! have you come across this? any help is appreciated by anyone :)
This is a great addon! Thanks for creating it! Just one problem with the review process. Even though I have is set to "Show new cards in order added" I'll get to around the 5th card and then it will jump to the next batch on added cards. Personally I would prefer reviewing the first batch in it's entirety before I move onto the next batch. Could you please advise me on how to correct this? Many thanks!!
I've added a list to a deck with general cloze deletion cards, and when going to review, the cloze overlapping cards are not appearing in order. Would you need to assign cloze overlapping cards to a different deck to view them in order for review?
Reviews are always randomized, so moving them to a different deck would not help, unfortunately (see here for more information: github.com/glutanimate/cloze-overlapper/wiki/Troubleshooting#random-review-order). Essentially, the card order is only preserved for new cards and then only if the scheduling overrides found under the "General" options tab of the add-on are active. It's also worth noting that this only applies to Anki's desktop release: github.com/glutanimate/cloze-overlapper/wiki/Troubleshooting#card-introduction-order-on-ankimobile--ankidroid--ankiweb
what can i do if i want to memorize a list of things that do not the order? For example if i wanna memorize function of nose and so there will be a list of function that's with out order. What should i do to create card like that? thanks
That's a difficult case, but unfortunately all too common in med school. My best advice would be a find a way to conceptualize and structure the items in your mind. Try to group the items into smaller categories if you can, e.g. sensory functions, immunological functions, respiratory functions, etc. I'm not sure if it would help in this case, specifically, but it can help in others. As soon as you've sub-grouped the items you can then decide whether or not to use Cloze Overlapper on each group. If it's just a couple items each it would probably make more sense to use basic cards for them. Either way, I would then also create an additional card where I ask about the categories. Following the example above, this is what you would end up with: 1. A basic card or overlapping cloze asking what categories the functions of the nose can be split up in 2. Several basic cards or overlapping clozes, each asking about the sensory/immunological/respiratory functions of the nose, respectively Even after categorizing and grouping items you might still end up with long unordered lists to memorize. In cases like this I'd recommend constructing an artificial order, be it by applying simple sorting criteria like alphabetical sorting, or more advanced memorization techniques like mnemonics or the method of loci. But make sure to also check out the Cloze Overlapper Wiki where I elaborate a bit more on my use of the add-on: github.com/glutanimate/cloze-overlapper/wiki/Tips
To check myself whether I can enumerate all items form a certain list I have created a Javascript-assisted card type. My solution is perfectly suited for short items (few words). When the items are longer I use keywords as triggers to reveal the whole items. Additionally, in my thoughts I check whether I remember the item as a whole as well. Here is a demo: ruclips.net/video/xUYTz7pmTE8/видео.html This method has some (technical) issues, but I would be interested collaborate on a project to solve this problem.
From my experience: I usually make a regular card. Structurizing doesn't work for me. The more I split the question, the less connections I make. Sometimes I put the list length into the question so I know how many things I need to recall. That way I know I named everything and can flip the card or if I missed something and need to think more. Also try to sort the list in some order. For example one of my cards: FRONT: Phenytoin - adverse effects (10)? BACK: sedation, peripheral neuropathy diplopia, nystagmus gingival hyperplasia, hirsutism megaloblastic anemia, osteoporosis teratogenic induces P450 Notice how I grouped the answers into rows - 2 neurologic, 2 eye related, 2 mouth related, 2 bone related... It also depends on what's your goal. In our country we don't have multiple choice questions. We have oral exams where you need to talk about a topic by yourself. So my goal is to learn to actively remember as many things about a topic as possible. Not just chose the right answer from a list of answers. If I split the cards, I get better at answering specific questions but I lose the structure of the topic so it's harder to talk about it by myself. Also if I make more smaller cards and clozes, I'd have thousands of cards which would probably be intimidating and discouraging. The best approach is to define your goals and experiment to find out what works best for you.
@@tinypuff5217 Czech Republic. Sometimes we have multiple choice Q but most of the exams are oral. You randomly select a topic from a list and the talk about it with the examinator for about 15 minutes. You start talking by yourself about what you remember about it and then the examinator asks questions about things you didn't mention. The more you say by yourself the better. If don't say much by yourself and they have to help you by asking questions it's usually not a good sign.
It is not working for me. It says it generated 5 cards, but after I close, only one card was generated, the rest are not showing up. I followed all the steps and watched this video 3x, but I can't still figure out why it's not working.
17:14 There is an error in your list of "Planets of the Solar system". Jupiter comes before Saturn. Jupiter is much closer to the sun than Saturn. *M*ein *V*ater *e*rklärt *m*ir *j*eden *S*onntag *u*nsere *n*eun *P*laneten. Merkur Venus Earth Mars Jupiter Saturn Uranus Neptun "Pluto" (dwarf Planet)
Your work is very good, and the programme quite clear, but the explanation in this video is a little bit drawn out (for those who have a basic understanding of anki). But again - thank you and very good.
What should i do if i want to have many "fill in the blank" in one card without the previous blanks being removed? I wanted them to show or pop one by one. please reply asap thank you!
Hi Monica, sorry to say, but the add-on doesn't support revealing multiple blanks one by one on the same card. I do plan on implementing a "click to reveal" feature for the "full cloze cards" at some point in the future, though. For what it's worth: Prompting for multiple blanks on one card might actually be as effective as it goes against the so called "minimum information principle": www.supermemo.com/en/articles/20rules#minimum information principle
my cloze overlapper is not working. After I generate a flashcard using close overlapped, Anki says, it generated __ of flashcards. But when I click on Card, there is none in the front nor back side of the card. what did I do wrong? Help
Fantastic! Thanks. Nonsensical mnemonic tells me the Jupiter and Saturn have been transposed here: My Very Elegant Mother Just Sat Under Nutty Pickles.
Sorry for my English because I'm using google translator. I'm brazilian. I would like to know how I remove the random order of the cards, because when I create several cards in the same deck using the cloze overlapper, he is not following the order of the same card and puts me another card to review, getting confused and I lose the reasoning. Thank you very much.
Hi Gabriel, no need to apologize. Your English is perfectly fine. The cards should appear in order while they are still new (at least on the desktop). As soon as they become review cards, Anki's scheduling kicks in and randomizes their order. There's nothing I can do about that, I'm afraid. One workaround you could use to see them in order would be to create a filtered deck and sort it by the card creation date. Using the previewer in the card browser might also be a viable alternative.
This is brilliant!!! Waited for this from 2011! Dummy question: this will work on the phone app too, right, given that the cards were added that way on a laptop?
I am aware this may be a basic question, but Im stuck. I made 4 test decks using the sequential Cloze Overlapper add-on and I want the lists to appear in the sequence I made them. After going through the cards once and then clicking 'Forget', they no longer appears sequentially and skip randomly between different decks and Cloze deletions. For example in this screenshot it starts off by asking me the 5th option in list 3 instead of starting with the first Cloze deletion on the first card. preview.redd.it/5eqzbqwnuqu81.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0de70d0af212e9b86fd9ed3ba0f13e09b3824a97 I checked the settings in Cloze Overlapper options but override sibling spacing is selected. So it cant be that. Cloze Overlapper settings with sibling spacing overridden If anybody has any suggestions for how to display the cards in sequence I would really appreciate it because I'm out of ideas right now. Thanks
I have found a problem, maybe and surely I am doing something wrong. While studying anatomy I created a card which prompts the question of the components of the suspensory aparatus in the horse. I have 4 answers there in which I used this system, the problem is that I configured a cram study session with that deck and then when this card comes up, it comes "asking" for the 3rd answer, and I want it to be like a list, where the 1st answer is blocked, but when I answer it, then I can continue to 2nd one which is also blocked (as I want it to be), and then the 3rd one and so on. The problem here is I reveal the 3rd one and boom it just switches to another card and I can't study the other answers. So I also cant use it to study a process, for example the regulation of the estrous cycle which depends on melatonin secretion, well if I do a card for that, it will only reveal the 5th step, and then when I click "show answer" and I evaluate myself with "good", the prorgram will redirect me to another card; now I can't see until the program decides, the other 4 steps previous to the 5th one. Please help.
I have kind of solved it using this: github.com/glutanimate/cloze-overlapper/wiki/FAQ#why-do-i-see-my-cards-in-a-different-order-on-ankimobile--ankidroid--ankiweb But, if I create a cram session, by clicking my deck and then go to personalized study, click the last option (according to the state of the card), then I select all cards in aleatory order, I am guessing that it is going to generate the random issue I wrote in the OP. So I created 100 card personalized deck and click "only new cards" which solved the problem. But what if I just study normally a hypothetical 20 cards deck (for this day) and I have also clicked both options of the "override sybling-spacing" (check the first link)? Will I be able to sudy this cards in order 1->2->3->4 or will it be again in random order and the program will jump from "bones of the face" card 3rd answer to "bones of the hand" 1st answer. What if I have already studied a deck, and then I cannot create a cram session because the program will only show "new cards", I am guessing then I would have to choose the second option and only study programmed cards. Thanks.
+Julio Vera Have you tried sorting your cramming sessions / filtered decks by creation order? In any case, there really is no perfect solution to preserving card reviewing order in Anki outside of using filtered decks or (possibly) the Advanced Previewer add-on. My advice would be to just try to design your cards to work as standalone cards from the ground up. With Anki's scheduling you'll eventually have to submit to randomly reviewing your cards anyway. It's either that or placing all sequence/list items on one card, which makes it very hard to memorize.
So for future material should I make separate decks for the cards that I use this add on (I mean only a deck for one list of items)? or also filter my decks to be in creation order? By the way, how do I do the first thing you wrote? sorting my cramming session by creation order? Is that what you meant? Is it by going to tools -> create filtered deck -> and then order added ? Thanks :D
Sure: 1. With the note type in Anki's "Add" window set to Cloze Overlapper, click on the "Cards.." button in the top left corner 2. A new window should pop up with three fields on the left: Front template, Styling, and Back template 3. Look through the Back template field and find the line where it says: {{hint:Original}} 4. Remove that line and close the card template editor 5. "Show Original" should no longer appear on your cards from now on.
Hey great add on but it's not working correctly on Anki Android for me, Works great on PC but on my phone hitting "try again" or "good" or "easy" etc on the first clue skips the rest of the card!
Hey William. Glad you like the add-on. This behaviour is normal and caused by the default deck options used by AnkiDroid. Please make sure to give the card scheduling section in the Wiki a read: github.com/glutanimate/cloze-overlapper/wiki/FAQ#card-scheduling. Let me know if you have any more questions after that.
Great add on thanks - I have found it very useful. I have not been able to work out how to implement for lists that have no order, where processes do not follow-on from one another. Here I want to have a list of items with a single line missing, and be able to guess what is missing. Or perhaps 2 items. If I know the 7 items in the list, I will get this type of answer correct, however the Cloze overlapper always requests a particular answer in a particular order, the order of which in some examples is irrelevant. Is there some way to implement a random display of all items except 1? I am presently doing this manually with a Cloze like follows: Hello Acknowledgement Update Query Reply Missing: {{c1::Request}} Cheers, and thanks again for your efforts! Adrian EDIT: I noticed that by using '-1' on the before/after prompts I can essentially do the above. Very cool. Thank you!

This is a great add-on thank you. Is there a way to have a cloze overlapper like function in image occlusion enhanced. For example, if I were memorizing a pathway i.e. glycolysis, there are a lot of excellent figures out there I would like to be able to occlude in this fashion.
Hey John,
there is no native way to use Cloze Overlapper on images, but I do plan on eventually extending Image Occlusion Enhanced with the same type of functionality.
When will this be ready? This is perfect for what I need!
Hello, Glutanimate! I wanted to know if it is possible to use the cloze overlapper addon with randomized lists
Hi! Thx for the video!! i have a question Do we need to pay once 5$ or do we need to pay 5$ per months to continue to use it ?
this is amazing!!!! thank you
Wirklich unglaublich tolle Arbeit die du da leistest! Eine Frage ist mir aufgekommen: ist es möglich, der Liste Unterebenen beizufügen und falls ja, wie?

Is it possible to review these cards on the phone?
I have certainly benefitted from your add-ons, so thank you! What programming language do you use to create these?
How to install this one, couldn't' find it in the list of addons in the Anki official site?
Will there ever be an alpha available for 2.1? The project seems abandoned.
If I make flash cards on pc using Cloze Overlapper and then sync to my iPad, will the flash cards on iPad still show as Cloze Overlapping?
Thankyou glutanimate......Cool name
hi glutanimate.
What should i do to make the list or enumerations to show the answers one by one, while the previous answers are still showing, on the same card?
Thanks friend.
+Ari Holtzer You're very welcome!
Hey,
Great add-on will this be updated to the latest version of Anki?
It has been updated but you have to pay for it.
Thanks!
Thanks a lot, I love you
I've added a list to a deck with general cloze deletion cards, and when going to review, the cloze overlapping cards are not appearing in order.
Glutanimate Thank you - I had missed that under the FAQ.
what can i do if i want to memorize a list of things that do not the order?
Following the example above, this is what you would end up with:
1. A basic card or overlapping cloze asking what categories the functions of the nose can be split up in
2. Several basic cards or overlapping clozes, each asking about the sensory/immunological/respiratory functions of the nose, respectively
Even after categorizing and grouping items you might still end up with long unordered lists to memorize.
Here is a demo: ruclips.net/video/xUYTz7pmTE8/видео.html
This method has some (technical) issues, but I would be interested collaborate on a project to solve this problem.
From my experience:
I usually make a regular card. Structurizing doesn't work for me. The more I split the question, the less connections I make. Sometimes I put the list length into the question so I know how many things I need to recall. That way I know I named everything and can flip the card or if I missed something and need to think more. Also try to sort the list in some order. For example one of my cards:
FRONT: Phenytoin - adverse effects (10)?
BACK:
sedation, peripheral neuropathy
diplopia, nystagmus
gingival hyperplasia, hirsutism
megaloblastic anemia, osteoporosis
teratogenic
induces P450
Notice how I grouped the answers into rows - 2 neurologic, 2 eye related, 2 mouth related, 2 bone related...
The best approach is to define your goals and experiment to find out what works best for you.
roman You said your country doesn’t have multiple choice questions. Just curious, which country are you from?
Thanks bro I really like this video , espero se haya entendido muchas gracias genial el video y es una add-on de gran utilidad excelente trabajo

Somehow cloze deletion is not even available as a note type for me 🤷🏼♂️ does somebody know what to do?
Would u recommend using anki for GCSE? Btw good video!!
Can I get it for Anki 2.1?
very nice
Your work is very good, and the programme quite clear, but the explanation in this video is a little bit drawn out (for those who have a basic understanding of anki). But again - thank you and very good.
What should i do if i want to have many "fill in the blank" in one card without the previous blanks being removed? I wanted them to show or pop one by one. please reply asap thank you!
Hi Monica,
sorry to say, but the add-on doesn't support revealing multiple blanks one by one on the same card.
Help
Sorry to hear that. Could you send me a screenshot of what the card looks like, so that I can take a look?
Fantastic!
You are a god dame genius,😅
god bless you
This is brilliant!!! Waited for this from 2011!
Dummy question: this will work on the phone app too, right, given that the cards were added that way on a laptop?
Glad you like the video, Jonathan! Yes, cards created with the add-on work on all platforms, phone apps included :).
What is the code for this add-on?
Did you just use Anki as a presentation software, instead of Powerpoint? That's genius! ;)
Haha, thought it might be a good way to safe some time _and_ demonstrate the add-on :)!
PLEASE MAKE IT AVAILABLE FOR ANKI 2.1 ....... PLEASE
감사합니다 !
You're very welcome :) !

I checked the settings in Cloze Overlapper options but override sibling spacing is selected. So it cant be that.
Cloze Overlapper settings with sibling spacing overridden
If anybody has any suggestions for how to display the cards in sequence I would really appreciate it because I'm out of ideas right now.
I have kind of solved it using this: github.com/glutanimate/cloze-overlapper/wiki/FAQ#why-do-i-see-my-cards-in-a-different-order-on-ankimobile--ankidroid--ankiweb
But, if I create a cram session, by clicking my deck and then go to personalized study, click the last option (according to the state of the card), then I select all cards in aleatory order, I am guessing that it is going to generate the random issue I wrote in the OP.
Thanks :D
What's the name of this addon?
Is there a way to remove "Show Original"?
Sure:
1. With the note type in Anki's "Add" window set to Cloze Overlapper, click on the "Cards.." button in the top left corner
2. A new window should pop up with three fields on the left: Front template, Styling, and Back template
3. Look through the Back template field and find the line where it says:
{{hint:Original}}
4. Remove that line and close the card template editor

Release it for Anki 2.1
Pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase
Great add on thanks - I have found it very useful. I have not been able to work out how to implement for lists that have no order, where processes do not follow-on from one another. Here I want to have a list of items with a single line missing, and be able to guess what is missing. Or perhaps 2 items. If I know the 7 items in the list, I will get this type of answer correct, however the Cloze overlapper always requests a particular answer in a particular order, the order of which in some examples is irrelevant. Is there some way to implement a random display of all items except 1?
I am presently doing this manually with a Cloze like follows:

EDIT: I noticed that by using '-1' on the before/after prompts I can essentially do the above. Very cool. Thank you!
+Adrian Mollenhorst Happy to hear that the add-on worked for your use case! Thanks for sharing it here.
This is an awesome addon; nevertheless, when I add the cards, the original is permanently shown under the brackets. How do I change it?
