I'll add one aspect I didn't quite articulate too well at the end of the workout: Nutrition at "half marathon" pace This is different for a professional runner... sub elite... advanced... and novice. But it's really about time at effort. If your half marathon is sub 75 minutes then nutrition intake on that effort is going to be VERY hard and (in my opinion) not needed. But if your half marathon intensity is closer to 1:30:00... 1:45:00... 2:00:00 or longer... Then nutrition intake is very much reasonable in those situations. It's about time at intensity... not miles at effort. How much one should take will vary at those intensities -
For half marathon in 80 min, do you recommend EFS-pro or EFS and if I understand good you said only taking it day before , around 1pm ? How about pre race drink ? Also for marathon (2:45) do you recommend taking like pre race drink ? Thank you so much for all your recommendations, it is very hard to find honest couch like you.
@@igorzingllc7344 it really depends on the athlete (for EFS pro) --- if you lose 4-5 lbs in an hour on the average id definitely suggest looking into it. I'd preload with it... the day before... and maybe 1/2 serving the morning of (so long as you practiced it and it didn't bother your stomach) pre-race for marathon: I'd eat breakfast 2-3 hours before UCAN superstarch preload (2-3 servings) 45 min before maurten gel every 30 minutes from 60 minutes, 90, 120, and maybe half a gel a 150 min - with water along the way. But you'd want to test out what works in this setting for YOU.
@@McKirdyTrained thank you so much for responding , earlier when I tried UCAN didn't work for me well, but Maurten is fine. I will defiantly try this for sure. I always ge cramps on my hamstrings in last 2-4 miles on marathon unfortunately, I hope EFS will help with it .
@@McKirdyTrained LOL. The poster probably meant that HE got such a hard workout just by watching John do these 11x3 intervals that he fell asleep. These athletes make it look so easy, right?
Sir, please be my online consult coach for my next marathon race. I can't pay but I can give your video a thumbs up. Thank you sir. 🙃 I started running this year and my 5k time is 28:12 do you think I can break 3:15 marathon? I am looking at running Chicago marathon 2021 in 2 weeks. Thank you sir.
I like Seth, but he doesn't really do many workouts like this. He'll pick up the pace every now and then, but he mostly just does volume when he's not in the mountains. Wouldn't make for that exciting of a video following him around the high line canal for 20 miles at 7:30-8:00 pace.
Did 5 miles in 42 mins ,,lifetime best easy ,it’s bloody brilliant for 55 ? (There r faster than me) but getting anywhere near 38 mins and I’m going to go mental 😂Edinburgh
I think its time to upgrade "if its not on strava it didn't happen" to "if sweat elite didn't film it it didn't happen"
:o) . . . now I actually want to watch the New York City Marathon
Mckirdy Trained has brought this channel to life
Shoutout to James McKirdy!!!
Also 11 by 3 min is also impressive!
Me doing 5-6 is impressive

You mean to say that chugging chocolate milk while dropping sub 5s is less than ideal?
@@SlobberyPantsu personally I'd go with squares of lasagna...

These videos are a hell of a lot better than any workout videos that I see like Tin Man elite for example.

Nice work 👍
