  • Sorry for it being so long but I was so mad. Also Flyleaf played at 6:40 so I was wrong there. So we saw some other band they were recording on Facebook. And we got a call from someone at the show (a very weak call granted) on Friday and they said that the concert was still happening. Also I didn’t realize it hailed on the first day, I didn’t see any hail but my friend that was camping said it did.

Fellow attendee and tent camper - We were forced out into the hailstorm, sustained injuries, and lost our tent and almost all of our camping supplies. We were unable to leave or we would be kicked out of our site and unable to return. Unfortunately due to our injuries and loss of food and shelter, we had to get a motel in Greensboro over an hour away. We also got turned away on Friday only to have to sit in a motel (Because we didn't even have a tent to sleep in or dry clothes) watching their livestreams of all the shows canceled due to the 'weather.' We didn't even attempt to drive up on Saturday because we wanted to wait to hear from them for sure. Thousands of dollars in tickets, passes, and camping supplies wasted because of a piece of shit festival CEO and piss poor management. There was no water, a bag of ice was $14, one port-a-potty almost a mile from my campsite that was filled to the brim and had no toilet paper, showers that cost $10. It was an absolute fucking nightmare.
It was all of our first times at a music festival, and we are horrified to even think about doing this again. We were thankful for the campers around us helping us to keep our spirits high and for sharing supplies with us so that we were able to be fed. Rock and Metal fans are absolutely incredible humans.
Thank you for sharing your story. More people need to share and we need to be reimbursed for the horrors we endured. I am very sorry for your loss man. Sending all the good things (vibes, prayers, whatever you believe in) to you and yours.

I’m so sorry that happened to y’all. I actually didn’t know about the hail when I recorded the video. I didn’t see any hail when I was there. I don’t know if it just happened at the camping ground. I was under the vip section through the storm, so I got lucky. And I’ve read so many stories and seen so many photos and videos online. It just keeps getting worse and worse the more I look into it.
I really appreciate the support. And I’m so sorry you went through this. I hope no one got seriously hurt. I’ve heard more people got hurt in the campgrounds. Trust me I’ve been to a ton of concerts I’ve never seen this kind of Blatant disregard for human safety.

Hearing horror story after horror story from not only fans that were there but the bands and crews that work with the bands AND the staff that was on site (most of whom walked off the job, hence the actual reason it was cancelled). It was so bad there might not BE a Blue Ridge fest in 2024, and if there is, I can't imagine which bands will actually accept the booking

@johnferox6124 Tank the Tech did a video going over some of the behind the scenes. He was with Electric Callboy's crew. I personally know a few crew members from other bands and they said the exact same stuff went down on their end, so Tank's assessment of the situation seems to be pretty accurate to reality - I won't name names for legal reasons, but the bands and crews are pissed off as well because of not only what the bands had to go through but the fans and even the staff working on site. It was bad. Bad enough to where there is gonna be courtrooms involved

I was in ADA camping with a 1st time camper and someone with messed up knees. I was the only one used to camping and able bodied. When the storm hit we were lucky we were at camp getting some sandwiches. We were able too take down our canopy and i secured the tent. Still took 2 of us inside holding the tent from blowing over. Branches did come down btw. Took out 1 car's windows that i saw in the camp area. A branch hit or tent but luckily didn't do permanent damage.
Storm aside took us 5 hours in our car to get through the line to our camp site. Then the only non-vip water station was at the complete opposite side of the venue from the ADA. Too far for my companion to go especially with the hills part way in. Even then the lines for water were like an hour wait at some points.
When they cancelled Saturday for "weather" there was no weather to speak of. After drizzle of rain it was a perfect day after about 2:30pm. I was so pissed after all we got through just for them to cancel. But i believe it was cancelled due to the worker strike not weather now that the truth has been coming out from the workers.

1st off, please accept my condolences on the loss of your mom. I can relate to needing this festival (had it been done right) at this particular time. Monday 9/4 was the 2 year Anniversary of losing my other half and then i had to put our dog to sleep on Tuesday 9/5 due to severely advanced bone cancer. I, like you, needed the positive environment only a great rock & metal festival can provide to blow some steam & begin to heal and not be stuck in my own grief-fulled head.
We must've been near each other in line because I heard all of those songs while in line...while talking to 2 guys who had come from NORWAY for this show. As bad as I feel for all of us, I especially feel for the people like them, the friends I made from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, the guy Saturday morning in the shuttle line by me from Alaska, the ones needing ADA accommodations. We ALL deserved better!!!
For those for whom this was their 1st festival, please don't allow this hand grenade in a shit show in a dumpster fire ruin it for you!!! Go to a DWP festival or Rocklahoma or another that has a proven track record. You will have the time of your life and meet the most interesting and amazing people!
As a fellow Virginian, this was an embarrassment! And one that was NO FAULT of our state or our people. We WANTED this to succeed. We NEEDED this to succeed. We want access to an amazing rock/metal festival close to home. We want to share the awesomeness that can be found throughout so much of the Mid-Atlantic. What we do NOT want or need is the utter disgrace that was BRRF '23.

And I agree I’m fearful if this somebody’s first concert they will be shook up by this. Understandable but I’ve never seen such shitshow in my entire life. Once again appreciate the support man.

@@johnferox6124 Thank you, John! I thank whatever higher entity told me to get a hotel & VIP. Yes, the shuttle fiasco damn near broke me but I'm a tough ole bird and kept pushing on. My daughter camped with a friend of mine and while their canopy & his tent had some damage, she MacGyver them and others nearby so they could stay. Her tent was fine and dry. We love camping and are pretty adept at handling things that can & will go awry, including weather. When my friend decided to bail Saturday afternoon, she packed up & he brought her to me at the hotel while we waited for them to announce if Sunday would be a go or canceled. Since I'd already paid for the night, she was able to shower (FINALLY!) and we made the best of the rest of the night before heading back to RVA on Sunday.
Thankfully, we had done Sonic Temple in May where we had the most amazing time!!! We're already planning to go back & possibly also do either INK or LTL in 2024. Blue Ridge can suck my _____ (fill in the blank)!! If a proven & respected promoter takes it over, I'll reconsider at that time.

I'm glad more people are coming out with their experiences as it doesn't seem the news is doing a good job of it. This was an absolute shit show and I'm livid at how many good people have been scammed by this event.
Addition: I just wanted to say I'm sorry about your loss. This was unfortunately my first experience with a concert let alone a festival and I know I cannot let it define them going forward to me. I really resonated with the "we understand each other on a human level" because it's true. Rock & Metal has been a home for me that I've found so many friends in and so much love and I can't let a shit show ruin it for the me.
Most of the people going to these sorts of events are hard working, down to earth laboring people and there is no way we can allow this to be gotten away with. Most of us lost a lot of money we'd been saving up for to see these people and I had hopes to see so many bands who i had been wanting to see since i was a little kid. I'm sad. I'm disappointment. I'm hurt and I hope the owner gets his comeuppance because he screwed over a lot of fucking good people.
    -
I can say that my experience was probably not the worst, but my friend and I got a 4 day pass with the general camping. Not only was it so hot my friend passed out on the wednesday before, but we used up most of our gas staying in the car using the air conditioning to stay cool until the festival actually started.
We were front and center when Coheed had started to come on stage when the announcement started and the only thing on my mind as someone who is 5 foot tall was "i'm going to be crushed". There were so many people, so much chaos and not only that, but the staff had been ordered to close one of the biggest exits to the festival. I watched a bunch of people push the fencing back to try and stop them from pushing that gate closed as the only other exit was the small exits they had originally let us come through with the badge scanners.
    Dangerous as hell.
It took us about an hour to get back to our campsite through the rain and hail, painful as hell, cold as hell only to find out that our tent and our belongings had been blown away. We had no shelter, and we gathered what little items we still could find before the wind kicked up even more. We had to make a decision as we no longer had anywhere to sleep, we were wet and cold, and we only had less than a quarter tank of gas. There was no way we would have been have been able to stay for the rest of the festival. We would have been relegated to sleeping inside our car without air to conserve gas in order to get out of the festival.
So we left. We left and we lost a lot of things, lost a lot of time and effort and money.

But no shelter for anyone outside vip. Hail, thunder, down pour, 60mph winds. Wait 3.5 hours in line to get in a bus. And other had to wait longer just to get to the parking lot. She really wanted to see evanescence and other bands she really liked. She was very disappointed in the whole festival. Her sister (25) has been to many festivals. Her sister does not really like rock, she likes rap. She went to rolling loud in California. She said this festival was horrible and she will never take my 16 year old to another. From your explanation I am thankful to God that they made it home safely. ❤️

I saw on some other commentaries about this goatrodeo where the staff wasn't being paid or provided for properly so after a couple days of heroic efforts by the grunts on the ground there, they told the promoters to fuck off and left. If it was truly canclled due to weather - even just a part of it - they don't have to give out any refunds or really take any responsibility. That was strategy all the way. By the way, have the same Crosley turntable/radio/etc. system in my bedroom! LOL. Seriously, I was at Welcome to Rockville in 2022 when we had to evacuate for at least part of 3 of the 4 days. It was a pain, and I felt bad for people I met who had come from Germany and England just for this festival, but when we evacuated I was able to go directly to my car outside in the parking lot, and when it was over we were able to get back in. It probably took an hour to get 20,000 people back into the speedway, but we did it a few times. Unfortunately Guns N Roses and Korn were not able to go, but I saw a lot of people who had been to that same festival texting from Blue Ridge on THURSDAY saying "I will complain about Rockville again! Brused head from hail and all I kept going up hill to find our camp 😢it was demolished. We were however able to get our tents back together to sleep in. I am truly sorry for everything people had to go through for bus waits and some things I did not have to go threw. But just trying to get back to camp day 2 nightmare 😫. The pain in my legs and feet I had to keep stopping. I cried I didn't want my family to have to wait on me. The carts would not take me back but at my age not cute young of course not going my way. But F them I made it. I was sad and my family made it ok. I did however get to see danzig who I was trying to see since the 80s. We stayed cause the wait to get out was about 20hrs. So we rested and had fun at camp with our camp neighbors and my family. I had to come back to Florida to get cool sounds crazy crazy. But with everything else that I saw never again will I ever go to blueridge again. Oh check your cards if your wristband wasn't accepted for merchandise ect. Thankfully she was caught, and we brought a fan with us (raves get fuckin hot too), it can happen outta nowhere and I cannot reccomend a fan/water pack enough. Be safe out there, if you see someone collapse and youre not incompetent, help them out.. cause it happens a lot. This festival sounds like a goddamn disaster, even the organizers had staff walk out apparently. Christ

I’m so sorry you had to go through this it sounds absolutely awful. One thing I’ve had to accept about these festivals is that between June and late September it is ENTIRELY too hot for these kind of massive events. The heat, combined with summer thunderstorms and massive amounts of people, bands, traffic etc. it’s not a safe or enjoyable situation. These people who organize these kind of massive festivals only care about MONEY. I’m not talking about the bands, but the business people. I love rock/heavy metal but there has to be a better way to have a festival and they need to have FEWER BANDS. Climate change is a REAL THING. Festivals are going to have to be put on in either April/May or October. Often times, the business people who organize these massive events are basically financial criminals. I don’t go to festivals anymore but if I ever did again it would have to be ARTIST ORGANIZED and they make sure that adequate WATER, RESTROOM FACILITIES, SHELTER AND FOOD available.

Wow, the majority of stuff I heard about this even was that it was a monumental cluster fuck.
I've never heard of this festival, and this past month all I've heard was basically how lousy this time was.
I've seen some video of the event, and it seems so-so, relative to the music.
Looked like it might have been fun for some...
but logistically, relative to the smooth functioning of how you want these things to go...
    this was a huge clusterfuck!!

@@johnferox6124 yeah sounds like a terrible experience all round for everyone. I seriously hope that Slyeguy is held accountable this time. Though considering he’s still pending lawsuits for previous blue ridge rock festivals I don’t know how long that will take. 😞 Hope your next festival is way better than this!

My best friend went to this festival and she goes to probably the six festivals a year and she has been doing this since the late 90s and she said it was by far the worst experience she’s ever had at any festival or concert ever. I think she told me made me mad just tearing it. I believe every word you are saying, brother.

Even when my family saw Rammstein in Philly last year ( August 2022), there were as many people to fill all the seats, more than half the field and who were standing on the sides. That concert went so smoothly.
To handle all those people was amazing. Thanks to the people who know what they are doing!!!!
    Sorry this happen.

Make the trip to Kentucky for Louder than Life next year, it's 1000% worth it and Danny Wimmer presents puts on the best festivals in the country. Louisville can't be much further away for you if you live in Virginia. I drove 4 hours to Louder than Life from Tennessee because it was closer than Blue Ridge was and I'm so glad I made that decision. I feel so bad for ppl that went to Blue Ridge and I hope they at least get the ticket money back.

They canceled Saturday and Sunday... And the excuse was the weather... The real reason is the majority of their staff quit because they were treated just as poorly as all of the concert goers and even some of the bands were treated poorly.. bottom line is they did not have the staff because of the walkout to manage the amount of people... But of course to save their own asses they blamed the entire weekend on bad weather... And the reason they lied to y'all is because they indeed oversold and that was their way of trying to make sure nobody else came in....

    • @johnferox6124
      @johnferox6124  Год назад
