In episode 3x2 during a speech, Sherlock gives his "first and last vow" which is that he would always be there for John and Mary. And here in this episode, titled "His Last Vow", when Magnussen is threatening John and Mary, Sherlock does everything he can to protect them and their relationship, even if it means condemning himself and almost dying earlier in the ep. What a great friend.
@@florians9949Eurus absolutely does not care about Sherlock as a person. She cares about having Sherlock's attention, even if it might come through his torture.
@@florians9949 Well, she planned an entire vivisection setup to explicitly hurt Sherlock, so I can't see how she doesn't 'understand' it. She absolutely saw how breaking Molly's heart, or choosing between John and Mycroft would hurt Sherlock.. which is exactly why she did all that.
This moment here is absolutely extraordinary! Sherlock realized what he needed to do, what it took to get rid of Magnussen once and for all-and free Mary. Appledore was all in his mind, he had to kill Magussen. Moments before this John asked his ,,what now Sherlock?” Sherlock didn’t say anything because he knew that would make his an accomplice to the crime. Sherlock had to wait until his brother got there, because if he shot Magussen before that, John would be a suspect as well. By letting Magussen flick John he stalled just enough for the ,,cavalry” to arrive, that way Jonh was safe, innocent to the crime he was about to commit. They all witnessed that it was Sherlock and Sherlock alone who was involved in the shooting. John was safe. Sherlock first words after he shot Magussen were ,,Get away John, stay well back” and then ,,Give Mary my love, tell her she’s safe now” He was protecting him, by not telling him what he was about to do, and protecting Mary by shooting the man who was threatening to tear their world appart. Sherlock knew what would happen to him if he shot Magussen but he did it anyway because he had to protect his friends no matter what happened to him afterwards. At the wedding Sherlock made a vow to John and Mary ,,whatever it takes, whatever happens, from now on, I swear I will always be there. Always.” And he has kept that vow. Sherlock had said countless times during this series that love is a useless sentiment, -and something he isn’t capable of doing, and yet he was willing to loose everything to save John and Mary, to keep them safe, to protect them because no matter what he says, he does love them. And. Always. Will.
The first time I saw this scene, my thoughts were as follows: "I think it, and he does it!" I lost track of how long I was mentally begging someone to shoot the guy. Think it began with the eye flicking...
Oh Sherlock, what have you done.. this dialogue from Microft and childhood Sherlock in the frame made this scene really hit the chord with audience across the world 🔥🔥🔥
I'm all for how everyone loves that Sherlock shot Magnusson because he was flicking John (because absolutely NO ONE touches his blogger) but there's something else equally as good (not shipping wise tho). Y'all are sleeping on the fact that there was literal FEAR in Mycroft's voice/face when guns were pointed at Sherlock. Mycroft is a man who makes damn sure his emotions are in check and unreadable, so to see him be scared for his brother is just so heartbreaking/heartwarming.
"Don't fire! DO NOT FIRE ON SHERLOCK HOLMES!" You can literally hear the panic and urgency in Mycroft's shaking voice. One of my favorite moments in the entire show, for it really sends home the point that for all Sherlock's loneliness and self-hatred, there are people who really do love him fiercely. He might've said once that alone protects him, but I'm sure he knows it's always Mycroft who protects him, and this is where the audience is also supposed to know that. :)
It’s amazing that the thing that the Sherlock over the edge to literally kill someone was that Magnussen was messing with John ... Pure love 💕 ... did you see the fire in Sherlocks eyes when Magnussen was flicking John in the face 🔥
Brilliant episode and amazing moment, but it must be pointed out that there’s no such thing as a _high functioning_ sociopath. Sociopathy doesn’t present with different levels of functioning. It isn’t a developmental disorder it’s a personality disorder and as such has little to no effect on functioning.
@@ArdanTheHalfDragon He's just trying to point out that he will have zero problems with shooting a hole through Magnus' head. Just a little head warning hahaha
Do keep in mind that Sherlock often doesn't bother to learn about topics that aren't specifically related to his work. It's entirely possible that he thinks he's right, but isn't.
At the time you made this comment you are correct, however at the time the show was produced it was a term 'professionals' sometimes used. There used to be a lot more ambiguity in psychological practice.
yep he lost. All the fans can do a 4d chess and they can try to explain but he lost. But that's what i love about sherlock. He lost a few times in the series.
I wouldn't agree with this; Sherlock has never claimed to be "above" killing, and he probably would've considered it with some of his earlier foes if they hadn't had contingencies in place to prevent him doing just that. Magnussen was smart not to keep any physical evidence of his blackmail, especially when he was messing so openly with such powerful people, but he was also stupid for revealing it in an effort to gloat. As soon as it became apparent that he had no leverage outside of his own brain, the logical solution was to just kill him before he could realise his mistake
Sherlock really learned his lesson from Moriarty: you don’t always need to be clever
Magnus: I have outsmarted you Sherlock.
Sherlock: maybe, but can you outsmart a bullet?
Actually, he was pretty clever here, he planned for this well in advance.

Mycroft and Euros shares one thing in common, the only person they care about other than themselves is Sherlock.

🙄 wouldn't anyone be pissed of their BFF was being treated this way? He did it for Mary and John loves Mary.
That's exactly how people like Magnussen should be dealt with. Why let someone blackmail you when you can just kill them? Make an example of them.

Considering “sociopathy” isn’t a real psychological term, I’d say we’re past the point of calling it an inaccurate diagnosis.
