As someone who has been trying to learn Spanish on Duo for about 50 days now, I can honestly say I've been struggling to keep up in very basic sentences when actually trying to verbally communicate. This is incredibly exciting news and I'm for sure signing up, I wish you and your team the best of luck!
I’ve successfully learned Spanish to an upper intermediate level. Haven’t studied flash card or Duolingo in 3 years. First 3 years I wasted my time doing that crap. 6 years altogether. Comprehensible input just watch shows on Netflix to learn n listen to audiobooks you’ve already read or know the story of like Harry Potter. Trust me you’ll be better off
@KaraDUN Yes it does, take Matt vs Japan for example, he learned Japanese all by input, watching, reading, and then context will come naturally from experience and also grammar.
@KaraDUN yes. Comprehensible input works for every language. For example I’m learning Turkish n Russian for about 3 months now. I haven’t studied one drop of grammar n I’m already starting to understand a little bit. Literally all I do is watch the show in English then in the target language so I know what’s going on. That’s how you make it comprehensible. You have to do it for hours a day tho or it’ll take longer to see results
@@Trillvil1 Duolingo is interesting for you to create a vocabulary, create a study habit. I had a hard time studying just watching Netflix a language I never studied with. So I recommend knowing how to reconcile various study methodologies. Duolingo does its job very well.
Ikenna you're the reason I was able to learn 3 months of French with Pimsleur! You're an inspiration to us all, and I'm so glad you're back and feeling better!
Yo Ikenna! So I've been trying to learn Japanese and I've been doing it with this little unknown app called Kawaiinihongo which, IMO, is probably one of the best and most fun Japanese learning apps so far, but it's very underground and not many people know about it, but it's helped me a lot! They also have a more game-fied vers. of it called kawaiidungeon!! thought I'd mention it since it's not one of the boring apps but I also feel like it's not too similar to Duolingo!!
Duo is a bit boring but if you stick with until you finish the language course, you learn a lot. I have a notebook where I write down everything I learn from Duo (Italian course) and that way I keep track of what I’m learning
i am studying french and while im doing that i do my 7th grade french book's activities. most people say duoling is not worth it but i say it is, even better with their new audio and stories feature
I remember when I decided to stop relying on Duolingo, and bought a 3-part textbook set to start learning a new language ( Russian). It ended up having a ton of mistakes and poor explanation (amazon reviews gave next to no mention of the mistakes, but perhaps they didn't know), burning me out and making me go back to Duolingo. While Duo feels way more intelligently put together, I still don't like the wording of their tips and notes as well as the abundance of nonsensical sentences vs useful ones. IMO Duolingo is good for breaking the beginner barrier before moving on to a more long-term resource and routine.
Do you do immersion in your target language? Like reading books and watching stuff? If you're not already you might be ready to start, either way good luck learning!
@@nenadpopov3601 Yeah, unfortunately it feels like all their focus is on Spanish and French, as well as adding new languages rather than maintaining and improving the other languages
I recommend Lingodeer it is currently the best language app on playstore by far! Currently using it to learn Japanese but there's many other languages on the app including Russian, checkout reviews of it on youtube and good luck🤙🏾
As a language learner with ADHD started language learning at 20, I'm very much looking forward to your app, at this point I listen to music in my target language and do 1 duo lesson a day, I know I have the drive and passion to do more, I just dont, hopefully your app can help with this, SO PLEASE PLEASE HAVE SWEDISH 😭

For me, an app that gets me to an intermediate level has served it's purpose. At A2/b1, I don't need the app anymore as I can move on to content outside of them. Using any one resource alone (especially an app) is a mistake.
Very nice! You identified exactly the core issues with the existing apps and also games for language learning. Can't wait for it and I'm looking forward to making a review video about it aswell.

(Edit) I mean after a lesson of how to say a word, how to read it in text, then a real teacher will come and help review what you just learned. Lol never gonna be an app like that.
Checkout these apps "Study Japanese NHK" & Lingodeer, the first app I mentioned does exactly what you mentioned the 2nd one is more so a grammar learning app but it's super fun to use, the explanations for particles and the grammar a good and the UI is fantastic only downside is that it has a yearly subscription. 10/10 I do recommend
I’ve used Babble for 2 years now. It has/had 2 uses. 1. Was to introduce myself to trying out learning a language. 2. Vocabulary. All I use it for now is vocab. And I havnt found a better way that works for me to remember new words. I got a teacher 2 months in and relied on them to give me the grammar tools I need. But the app has been running alongside me since the start as a supplementary tool.

I am so excited for your app!! I have been learning Spanish since I was in kindergarten and I’m pretty good, but I always seem to get the correct grammar mixed up with English grammar and no one ever corrects me! So I am really excited for a much better app!!
A lot of the Apps are about advertising and subscription fees. They are created to encourage to buy products and spend money. That, "15 minutes per-day" will not get anyone fluent fast!
Getting fluent fast will never happen. It takes time to learn a language. Feeling like it should be fast is thinking exactly like the people who think they should go on a diet and they'll see lasting results after a month or two.
im really interested in this app that you all are making, and i wish i was in the position to be able to help (kickstarter wise, etc.) and i hope ill be able to support you when the app does come out!
I use pimsleur ($20 month) for audio comprehension, Duolingo for spelling and writing practice on site with keyboard, and try to read Spanish translated comics or non translated comics/posts. For me having both allows me to practice new material both ways, teaching new vocab while also having times where the vocab mixes and I get double emphesive via both Duolingo and Pimsleur. I think Duolingo is good, but as others said, don't solely rely on one form of language learning.
Ikenna is very, VERY talented at learning this stuff, and I can truthfully say that he's correct in the terms of apps. I am currently learning Japanese and the only app i use EVERY SINGLE DAY is Duolingo. But, unlike others, I don't use it for the regular courses. I use Duolingo to learn Hiragana and Katakana and to kind of just review over them every day. Their alphabet course is, somewhat efficient and it has been 100 days marking today that I've used it for that purpose. One app i find quite helpful is called renshuu. It helps you a lot with sentence structure and learning new words, and I've actually understood what they're telling me. I have a whole notebook dedicated to what I learn on renshuu. But, I will say, I really would like to try out your app. Out of everything that is "supposed" to keep me motivated, you do. I am currently working on some new vocabulary, so ill be able to make better sentences, but wow, i am so so glad that you decided to make a youtube channel dedicated to learning languages. (P.S., i adore your vrchat videos, and those keep me super motivated, so thank you, Ikenna! I really owe you.)
I've used Duolingo for the past six years or so. I've been learning French for 9 days now and I'm absolutely fine with it. I'm being taught words and structures to use in every day life, only a few weird memorable sentences. I'm almost finished with the second of checkpoints and I can confidently read and write and speak a bit, but as usual, my aural comprehension is lacking. But it's French so that's expected.
@@wild4fp being a baby helps, your brain is still growing so learning a language that is spoke everyday your brain picks it up and it adjusts it. ( Sort of bad English ) Always the first language is taught by direct method, which basically is a method where you learn a language... without using another language ( through the method of pictures, gestures, etc... )
I've used a lot of language apps, but the only one I left on my phone is "Drops." I rarely use it at all, but it's my favorite. The software I use most is "Anki," right alongside Drops. Motivating yourself is not as reliable as creating a routine system, for example: I have over 100 cards to do on Anki every day, and I do this every day regardless of what I'm doing. So I think a routine is a more effective and reliable way than motivating yourself.
@@pri5808 It's been fun and it's helping! Mostly I enjoy it because it's almost only vocabulary that is likely to be relevant to me since it pertains to daily life.
Nothing wrong with these apps as long as you know that it won’t get you fluent and at best will get you to a B1 level and there will be lots of work to do after you finish the app to get you to that level.
I speak German and English and recently started learning Japanese. My goal is to use Duolingo (due to financial difficulties) until I can hopefully start to understand Japanese media, such as podcasts, streams, videos and so on to improve my skills even further, which is somewhat similar to what I've done with learning English. Basics via school, rest through games and videos. I'll see how it'll work out eventually.
I've been learning Japanese for 1,5 years now. I study everyday on my free time. You don't really need too much money. I don't recommend you to use Duolingo. Learn your hiragana and katakana. Get a beginner grammar book like Minna no nihongo. Listen to free podcast everyday like "nihongo con teppei" and read asap on NHK web easy for example. I work my Japanese everyday 1 or 2 hours a day ( I wake up early for that) and it's pretty efficient. Now I take conversation courses every week on Italki. It's not expensive and really efficient!
@@TheIronyste Thank you for your tips! As of right now, I know basically no Japanese words and only some Hiragana and Katakana characters, still getting them mixed up from time to time. I'm using Duolingo to learn the characters, but once I memorized them I will switch to more efficient ways of learning, most likely do what you mentioned above.
@@puntherline I mentioned Minna no nihongo. I finished the first book (and did ALL the exercises on my (paper) notebook. I'm not saying this book is the best but it does what I wanted it to do : learn basic grammar and give me the material to start my journey in the Japanese language. I also worked Kanji and Vocabulary with Wanikani. It's not free but it's a pretty efficient system (but could be really time-consuming... I had to reduce the pace of my reviews), you can also use Anki decks to learn your Kanji, I'm sure you can find "wanikani-ish" decks with mnemotechnics. Now I know over .200 kanjis and more than 500 vocab thanks to wanikani (mostly), I'm starting to learn how to write them. I love it! Last thing, I would recommend you to read ASAP, try easy websites like watanoc (pronounce watanoshii) or NHK web easy. You can find really beginner materials, mostly on Watanoc). And I listened to the 500+ Nihongo Con Teppei podcasts. I think they are perfect for beginners, and they are becoming harder little by little. (but I'm sure you can find other beginner podcasts). I think working every day (even 15 min or 2h) but every day is the best you can do to learn! Good luck
If people want dry language learning go back to when, I was in high school before all these Apps were avaliable. You would have to go into a bookstore and buy a "Living Language Set." All you had was books and CD's. But did yet work? As long, as you stuck with it yes. But was it dry and hard to stay motivated? Oh, absolutely!
Ikenna, I've read your E-book and with your help, and recommendations, I've managed to boost my knowledge in MSA (Modern Standard Arabic). Something that I was not able to do In the university for a couple of years. I'm waiting for your APP, and I can't wait to see how it will look. I truly hope that there will be MSA as an option. Cheers!
Hey Ikenna, love your videos, I wanted to ask about app. I am really looking forward to your app, my next language is Arabic. Will your app support Arabic on launch?
Learning a new language, basic word learning at first, I take photo of rooms in my house and my local walks, upload with a partner and learn the noun I see, colour etc... Then learn basic verbs i.e. to walk, to see, to wash etc from the photo as you do these things every day! In present then past tense then future tense. I read a story online, with translation possible it for it, highlight the verbs, then bound and connecting words. Going over the same sort story will take days or weeks but good foundation building then start on another. Just some ideas....
my favorite language learning apps: RUclips, Lingq, Netflix and Kindle 😀 good content is the motivation. when it's a low motivation day I just watch Netflix 🤣 it's still immersion.
Yo dude, I have a suggestion, what if the app you are making has a info for every language on which lesson to start learning if you have been using another app. For example "if you are on lesson 69 of pimsleur, you should start here on lesson 420". Also, what if the app has English for people who speak other languages, for example "English for Japanese speakers. That's all, get better soon.
LOL, I'm fluent in English, but I've never heard of "Double Cheeked Up." Now I know it means boredom. With me, what I do is play a movie that I know in the language I'm learning in the background, while I do Anki or someother app/book. I play the movie because I get bored with just apps or books, so I need something in the background. Granted, it takes longer to study, but I do finish my studies!
I'm considering signing up but before I do I have a big question. Will Korean or possibly Mandarin be in the alpha/beta version or is it a down the line matter? If either one is included I will jump on signing up so fast but if not I'll gladly wait for later. :)
I mainly use Duo only to add new words to my list and cause it’s all I can fit within my day. The streak also encourages me to keep doing it. I’m definitely open to a substitute to Duo tho
Add a tiktok/reels like feature videos are in the learning language about the language. Promotes users to make content about their language or use/journey of the learning language.
HEY IKENNA ! I'm 16 years old...I love languages...I am Learning English.I always INVEST Many times for just watching youtube...And I have no time for learning at school. Is that the right way to become good at any foreign language?
yes, damn, how f* often can that boy eat bread and drink a glass of milk on Duo! My god And all these apps stop at intermediate tops. I finally want an app that actually goes to advanced
Rosetta Stone, is probably one, I should have not have bought. It feels like, so late 90's and early 2000's the technology. I have a lifetime subscription but it's just kind of blahhh!
I have a question is it easier to look up videos on RUclips for native speakers of the language? I’m trying to learn when they’re sharing videos of how to say certain words, and sentences and phrases, etc. better than using an app.? or using both of these would help?
Ikenna, do you have any advice on time management for people learning, improving, and trying to maintain multiple languages at once? Particularly if they're at different levels in each language, and have much time taken up by commitments, a career, etc?
Language apps worked for me... For the first day of learning my TL. After that I realised they are boring and can only help so much, so I moved on and never looked back.
I use anki and add anime transcribe flashcards(per episode1) with audio and after I finish the whole deck(episode), I will rewatch the anime and smile because I have memorized and understood almost all the words used.
I dont have a problem with the “proper” spanish but i need an app that teaches me in the way that they actually speak to each other. Because i can communicate with spanish speakers fine up until they start talking to me like a friend and then i become confused
For me it's never about the quality of the resources/app I'm using, it's how I feel about it at the time. Although I do like a good visual representation of my progress and what's next
Duolingo is a tool to get started with a language with learning a few words sentences structures you have to start watching movies and videos on the target language maybe even translate words that you don't understand don't learn the translation just get an idea what the word means. Word by word you will learn the whole language and when you remembered a word "pet your shoulders" xD That OH YESS i know this word wow so cool. Next time it will be easier to remember.
I just hope the app is gonna be free/really cheap non-subscription based and doesn't have any intrusive ads (full screen videos you won't be able to skip for a couple of seconds), the ladder being the reason why I don't personally like duolingo for the phone
i was wondering what languages will be featured in ikenna's app? ✨i'm pretty excited about it ^^ also ur eyes are really pretty 👀 no homo, bro. unless-
I just wanted to ask if you are planning to learn new language in the near future 'cause I am from Poland and I would like to see you try to speak Polish, I would really enjoy it🤗❤
I thought you will say that apps are useless or something, but fortunately you said that they don't work for some people because hey find them boring. It wasn't the case for me, i inish full babbel course in french, then downloaded anki and started to listen podcast and watch netflix and now im almost fluent so for me apps are great.

I'm being taught words and structures to use in every day life, only a few weird memorable sentences. I'm almost finished with the second of checkpoints and I can confidently read and write and speak a bit, but as usual, my aural comprehension is lacking. But it's French so that's expected.
6 years...it took you less than 2 years as a baby to understand your parents!
I am almost fluent in 3 months of French trough Pimsleur
@@wild4fp being a baby helps, your brain is still growing so learning a language that is spoke everyday your brain picks it up and it adjusts it. ( Sort of bad English )
Always the first language is taught by direct method, which basically is a method where you learn a language... without using another language ( through the method of pictures, gestures, etc... )
Love the two people missing the point that you've been doing French for 9 DAYS and not the whole 6 years you've used the app.

I’ve been playing the Sims in my target language to learn it so I feel you on the video game aspect of your app.
do you feel like playing sims in your target language has helped a lot? i like playing the sims so perhaps i’ll try this out
@@pri5808 I don’t play Sims but if it has tons of dialogue, yeah it will be really helpful.
@@pri5808 It's been fun and it's helping! Mostly I enjoy it because it's almost only vocabulary that is likely to be relevant to me since it pertains to daily life.
This is very informative! And the app sounds super interesting and promising!
AYO I'm so excited for the app!! Can't wait :p
Nothing wrong with these apps as long as you know that it won’t get you fluent and at best will get you to a B1 level and there will be lots of work to do after you finish the app to get you to that level.
Looks good! Hope to see the app out soon!
Oh, absolutely!
i knew it ! Waiting eagerly for the app
めっちゃ楽しみですね!
Cheers!
Love your videos currently learning Russian and these language learning apps feeling dry ngl and I'm losing motivation but I still learn everyday.
Awesome! I enjoyed this video!
I'm more excited for this app than I've been for a videogame in years
Yo dude, I have a suggestion, what if the app you are making has a info for every language on which lesson to start learning if you have been using another app. For example "if you are on lesson 69 of pimsleur, you should start here on lesson 420". Also, what if the app has English for people who speak other languages, for example "English for Japanese speakers. That's all, get better soon.
Hey Sweet Durt, can Ikenna make a video on how he got started on youtube and how he became good at editing?
@@ItsameAlex idk can he?
@@ItsameAlex y u asking me?
@@김해원-u9m I also wonder. I want to know what editing software he uses, and also what other secrets he discovered on the way to becoming a youtuber.

I'm really excited for this tbh
Ikenna does more videos than there a good language learning apps
and now youre telling me hes doing a language learning app himself`?? wild go ikenna
Hey F34R_4N4, can Ikenna make a video on how he got started on youtube and how he became good at editing?
@@ItsameAlex Hey uh bet but i cant Influence that im sorry
Great vid as always 👌
I'm very anti language app, but I'm really looking forward to seeing how yours is
I mainly use Duo only to add new words to my list and cause it’s all I can fit within my day. The streak also encourages me to keep doing it. I’m definitely open to a substitute to Duo tho
Or an app to use in addition to Duo
Add a tiktok/reels like feature videos are in the learning language about the language.
Promotes users to make content about their language or use/journey of the learning language.
Hey Azriel, can Ikenna make a video on how he got started on youtube and how he became good at editing?
No, that would ruin the app
I just came here to ask if you have Nigerian roots. Cause Ikenna is a well spelt Igbo (Eastern Nigerian) name. Thanks for the tips too. 👍
My god
And all these apps stop at intermediate tops. I finally want an app that actually goes to advanced
Bussu takes you to upper intermediate and stuff 🥰❤
Rosetta Stone, is probably one, I should have not have bought. It feels like, so late 90's and early 2000's the technology. I have a lifetime subscription but it's just kind of blahhh!
It's simple.
Spanish or vanish.
Particularly if they're at different levels in each language, and have much time taken up by commitments, a career, etc?
ahhh i can’t wait!!!
So when you say it'll be released in a few months, you mean it will ve on Kickstarter then? Not actually out out?...
Come on Man tell us when will the app be ready ? We waited a lot 😭😂
I have a question. Do you ever start learning a language with learning the alphabet for that language first?
I dont have a problem with the “proper” spanish but i need an app that teaches me in the way that they actually speak to each other. Because i can communicate with spanish speakers fine up until they start talking to me like a friend and then i become confused
Try reading some graded readers by Paco Ardit and listen to podcast like No Hay Tos and How to Spanish. They helped me a lot.
@@loth664 thank you
definitely would try out your app :)
Saludos desde cuaba ikenna muy útil tus vídeos como siempre 👍 me encanta tu contenido
In your opinion is rocket language a good app for learning a language
You only get good at the langeage beacose of the socialing experince with other persons that are native to the langeage
For me it's never about the quality of the resources/app I'm using, it's how I feel about it at the time. Although I do like a good visual representation of my progress and what's next
Ey good timing I've been needing some help with language learning.
Hey Bruce Moreno, can Ikenna make a video on how he got started on youtube and how he became good at editing?
Thank you so much for sharing a interesting video !!!
Please tell me your app is gonna have an Arabic course.
I found this app called FALOU and I think that was pretty good for and I already had an b1 lvl
Care on reviewing LingQ?, would be great👌🏻
Will your app only focus on popular languages or will it feature smaller languages. Like Esperanto for example?
i was wondering what languages will be featured in ikenna's app? ✨i'm pretty excited about it ^^
also ur eyes are really pretty 👀 no homo, bro. unless-
I hope Norwegian 💜❤
Will Ikenna course members get early access?
Do you know were i can learn french creole (Martinique)
I just wanted to ask if you are planning to learn new language in the near future 'cause I am from Poland and I would like to see you try to speak Polish, I would really enjoy it🤗❤
Can you do a video about learning in school? I don’t know if the way I’m learning In school is the best way.
Hey BigManAndrew, can Ikenna make a video on how he got started on youtube and how he became good at editing?
Which country are u in
Nice idea making a game to teach language, will the app support Vietnamese?
6:15 That's why I never learned programming in a linear way! I don't like doing it like that
I like duolingo, I learn spanish, norwegian and Japanese with it. (+ other sources) 874 day streak on 20 Feb 2022
Will the app teach about culture
Sounds great!
I thought you will say that apps are useless or something, but fortunately you said that they don't work for some people because hey find them boring. It wasn't the case for me, i inish full babbel course in french, then downloaded anki and started to listen podcast and watch netflix and now im almost fluent so for me apps are great.
wow can't wait to watch this
Opa LOL I loved your pronouncation
Where is that clip at 4:57 from? I'm curious about it but cant find it
Salut ! ( Ça fait bizarre d'écrire un commentaire en français sur une vidéo anglaise ) Si tu as besoin d'audios de natifs pour ton application, je pourrais en enregistrer si ça peut aider. Voilà bonne journée.
how many languages will the app have at launch?
What do you think about "Lingvist" and "Falou"?. Greetings from Argentina 🇦🇷
The only apps that i can use are LingQ and innovative language 101, i highly recommend them
I know your app is gonna be so good, but it's killing me that I probably won't be able to help or purchase the app 😭
I am really excited for this app! I had the idea myself when I realised that Duolingo just isn't fun anymore after a few weeks. I am far away from developing my own video game, but I`ll gladly use yours to learn new languages. What languages are you planning to include? Can we make suggestions?
