Agree fully! So many good series get destroyed with s-x and foul language. I could not watch the last series of Shetland because of the assault on my ears with all the dreadful language! Why the producers think it is necessary I really do not know!

When Vera started, the dynamic between Joe and her was always more prickly than between Aiden and Vera , and this makes their relationship much more interesting.
I like both characters, so I have no problem with this.

Im in Australia and Vera is one of the best shows to come out of Britain…but Ann Kleeves is working on a new book…so hopefully there will be more…Shetland was also a good series written by her as well.

Yeah but Joe was already a family man, so would be aware of Vera's troubled relationship with her father. Kenny was just a young lad trying to find his feet in the work place. Both are great actors, credit to the team. ❤

In the first episode Vera is NOT Joe's boss, he is there to assess Vera and her team and send in a report. He is obviously going to join the team for the next two episodes so then she will be his boss again, the tension makes interesting viewing.

I enjoyed this first episode of the new series, I was amazed by ITV that there was not much woke rubbish in it, this is the second series this week where there is no woke rubbish in it Mr Bates v Post Office which was so good. Have ITV sacked their 10 year old script writers and brought out proper writers. I hope so they may get back the millions of viewer's they have lost.Barbara.
I see nothing wrong with the return of a previous associate back to the room! It could be the right tension could add more drama to show as Vera puts him in his place once again!
I thought it was great. I like seeing her feathers ruffled and he did praise her as “the best” when she wasn’t in earshot.
Nothing wrong with Joe, wish aidan had said goodbye to Vera and the gang before departing, think Vera would have had a tear in her eye.

I agree! Bad writing in my opinion. All those years together they should have made it a big part of the last episode! Feel cheated when you invest in a character to not write a good departure explanation!

In my opinion, the actor who plays "Joe" is too perfect for the role. As if he had no human features. Handsome, almost too flawless. Plus, his return in season 13 is bizarre. He comes as a controller of Vera's departments and points out everyone's mistakes, as if he had never worked there before and as if he did not know about the effectiveness of this team. In addition, arrogance towards a once beloved and respected boss. We know that things are finally starting to get better. But still, it's a strange and unbelievable comeback.
Must admit I got the same feeling when it showed.
And didn't like it. But who am I, as just a fan.
