When I was 26, I worked as a teacher for a year, teaching IT at a college. I had a salary of £18,000. I worked 13 hours a day, 5 days a week in that job, because teaching isn't a job that stops once you leave the campus - lesson planning, assignment marking, etc all get added onto it. Turns out if I'd just turned up to the country on a boat, I'd be given £20k spending money just for existing, AND accommodation on top of that. This is why people are upset.

When I was 26, I worked as a teacher for a year, teaching IT at a college. I had a salary of £18,000. I worked 13 hours a day, 5 days a week in that job, because teaching isn't a job that stops once you leave the campus - lesson planning, assignment marking, etc all get added onto it.
Turns out if I'd just turned up to the country on a boat, I'd be given £20k spending money just for existing, AND accommodation on top of that. This is why people are upset.
