I was told by a German speaker that Germans don’t say “ die rechnung” when asking for the bill, that they just say “zahlen” or something like that. Which one is best? It depends on the area in Germany? Thanks!
Please speak very slowly to teach these phrases from English language to German language. For first time learners you speak first English and twice or more in German language slowly. Thanks.

You can either say "Die Rechnung bitte", "Zahlen bitte" or "Ich/Wir möchten zahlen bitte". All of these work just fine :)
