It's worth relistening while reading along to the lyrics. The visuals do an incredible job of telling the story/concept of this EP. "It’s a story about extreme grief and the levels a person is willing to go through to get rid of it. The story follows a main character through a traumatic car crash late one night in the woods that leaves his partner deceased, and from there you spiral with him into the depression and guilt that comes with being the cause of something so detrimental. This is the first time we really dove in and tried to create something sonically that evokes a different range of emotions and over all something that introduces tension and anxiety with a massive pay off. The story is told not only through words but through the music as well, which proved to be our biggest challenge in writing. Lyrically this story ended up being much more personal than we initially intended. We started with the idea to tell a fictional story but throughout the process, I found ways to incorporate real feelings of loss and mourning, as well as anger and self doubt. I’ve always been a very personal writer and this was originally a step away from that, into something more artistic. But in the end, it was just as therapeutic as writing a regular Knocked Loose record, and I think you’ll be able to hear that." - Bryan Garris
I still have yet to listen along with the lyrics, but after I watched it, I was reminded of the Greek tragedy of Orpheus and Eurydice and it made me think of my grandmother who recently passed (she told me "whenever you see a butterfly, think of me" and I shed a few tears. The ending to Permanent was amazing
A Tear in the Fabric of Life is a work of art, musically and with this animated video visually as well! It makes such an impact on so many levels, you wanna bang your head while your jaw drops to the floor and yes, while being bonecrushing this EP as a whole makes me get emotional at times. The variety of styles, the tempo changes, the rhythm, the breakdowns, the vocals (lead and backing), the atmosphere and those little melodies and riffs that crawl underneath your skin and add an extra layer to the maniacal music just makes this EP flawless! To add: loved seeing you being moved by what you were watching and listening!
This is by far Knocked Loose's best release. I enjoyed their past 2 albums a lot, but I would always find myself only coming back to a handful of songs from each. I found it very difficult to stay engaged with 30-40 minutes of this style of music, and I would just be waiting for the next big moment to hit. This release sounds like they really found what works. It's darker, heavier, and much more cohesive than anything they've done before. I have found myself revisiting this EP a lot recently, and it manages to hold my attention the whole way through. They found away to cut away all the fat, and a 6 track release is actually perfect for their sound. I wouldn't mind if they released EPs rather than albums from this point onward. Beyond that, this album has a lot of great moments. The way the first note of the EP hits, the "a tear in the fabric of life" soft vocal leading into the breakdown, the diggadiggadiggadigga guitar lead during the riff at 10:27, the final breakdown of the EP. Just a lot of great and memorable moments that make the whole EP so strong. I don't think I can't pick out individual tracks too well on this EP, it acts as a single piece. Great riffs, awesome drumwork, improved vocals, cool lyrics - this release is just wonderful. As you said, the visual accompaniment of this EP really elevates it. I haven't spent a ton of time trying to understand the story and meaning, but it absolutely nails the atmosphere and darkness of the songs. I'm so impressed that something this ambitious is coming from a band like Knocked Loose. I can't remember the last time I saw something like this.
@Matt M Well I guess we'll agree to disagree. I personally don't find their previous releases engaging from start to finish. If you have a different opinion that's okay, but please don't baselessly claim that I just haven't given them enough of a shot.
@Matt M The "I just don't think you're giving enough credit to their previous releases" just comes across a bit condescending. I have my own opinion, and you have yours. If you don't agree that's fine.
So fucking glad I caught you this early lol. This EP is my favourite work by Knocked Loose so far. I consider myself one of their biggest fans tbh , I’m so proud of them man
This was my first experience of Knocked Loose and I struggled a bit with the vocals first time round. Loved the instrumentals from the very first track and that's what brought me back to the EP. Now the vocals seem a good fit after a few listens. The whole EP seems very coherent too, don't think I would ever just listen to a single track but would need to listen from start to finish each time. Thanks for doing the long video!!
I’ve truthfully never had something so brutal evoke such an emotional response from me, but I’ve been revisiting this EP quite frequently since it’s release and the feelings have stayed consistent. I truly believe that KL have found their footing finally. I’m curious to see where they take us next
@@nolankuffner3573 my favorite has to be between contorted in the faille and where light divides the holler, return to passion could be a contender too but it's a little too short, still amazing though.
@@phnxsu Comforted in the Faille is probably the most dynamic track, if not just vocally. I usually connect most with the last song on an EP / LP though. Some people say 'I'm sad it's over' and I guess my thought is 'I get to start again'.
This is an absolutely EXCELLENT EP! I’ve listens to it SEVERAL times since it dropped, and I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of it. I hope they go in this direction more with later releases, because as much as I like their older work, this is definitely my favorite. This and Laugh Tracks are my two personal favorites.
Seeing the album drop was a very big surprise for me, but listening to it the first time knocked my jaw loose! P.S. Your surprised reaction is always a treat 😂
Been listening to it all night long for the 105th time. Damn it hits HARD. Some melodies reminded me of Meshuggah and black metal. The last part of Permanent is beyond comparison... And also the vocals... The VOCALS! Raw intense and pure. Hands down their best.
Woman is a gem. Music taste is sensational, would give up so much to have a similar half of me in my life. Maybe one day I'll have a better half like her 👌🖤
just saw them live, got punched in the mouth. claimed the pit for my ancestors.
it was great.
😂😂

Thank you for the context. Wonderful words from Bryan, I will definitely relisten while reading the lyrics!!

I think Forced to Stay is my fav of the EP, whole thing slaps though
ive never seen someone with Forced To Stay as their favourite, I love it and it's probably second to Contorted In The Faille for me
forced to stay is easily the best song on that EP. even over a year later i still stick to that

Amen
The story is basically about a guy losing his wife in a car accident, and griefing over it.

The lyrics alone are the best I’ve heard in the past year. The composition is phenomenal

Bryan's vocals are typically hit or miss across the board for everyone. They have some big ole bangers in that discography!!
Check out their last album, A Different Shade Of Blue, it's awesome.
"God knows I belong to hell, thats why he left me here by myself" is just such a goddamn hard line!

this ep slaps HARD, definitely their best to date for me
I'd say Permanent is probably the highlight for me, even in light of that long outro.
What's your favorite track here?

YES! this goes so hard
This is the definition of bliss
Thank you for this video Rachelle! Love this EP been on repeat since it release!
Love The Beach Boys outro in God Knows. Fits so well with the vibe

Hands down their best.
This is the first thing I've liked in over a year.
This heads and shoulders the best heavy music release this year. The first two tracks are easily the best songs on this ep.
Such a damn good ep!
They just came out wanting to destroy. And they destroyed.
Love this EP very heavy glad to see your reaction to this madness lol.
You'll like it even more after a few listens
Yes!
this EP makes me wanna punch a teddy bear stuffed with thumbtacks
This eq makes me want to rob my own house
people will laugh and fully dismiss but if Code Orange did it there is a conversation to be had that this EP might deserve a Grammy nomination
Who is laughing at this? I’ve heard nothing but good things
Code Orange isn't fit to carry Knocked Loose' laundry.
