- Just look all around you. Do all the objects around you have their own shadow? Yes, they do. But why is that so? Why does our Shadow chase us? This is because of light. Objects usually block the rays of light. This blocked light eventually forms a shadow. Such objects which do not allow light to pass through it are called as an opaque object and objects which do allow light to pass through them are called as transparent objects.
Let us try experimenting this. Ask your friend to stand behind you and pass a beam of light (through torch) you will be able to notice that our body being opaque doesn’t allow light to pass, creating a dark shadow around us. This shadow can change its place according to the change in direction of the light. The same way it a shadow changes because of the change in direction of the sun.
Try the same experiment on a transparent object like a clear glass. The light will pass through it easily but it will bend slightly.
