This sounds very suspect. I've never seen nor heard of any hate being leveled at Keaton's portrayal of Batman. His portrayal of The Dark Knight is easily one of the more beloved depictions of the character period!
@@MeMe-fq6ovBale was one the most "meh" to me. Great Bruce Wayne, not a great Batman and the worst voice ever. Clooney was outright bad. Kilmer was, well, to this day I still don't know how to feel about Kilmer lol. Affleck was really good in BvS and really bad in everything else. Pattinson was not much of a Bruce but a truly great Batman. All have their strengths and weaknesses, except Clooney who was all weakness.
@doc8013 🤔We can, indeed, agree to disagree(to me...Bale kicks a**!). But I do agree with your opinion on Val. To me...his best character has always been "Doc Holiday".😁💪
I think 🤔 at the time, people were scared that Warner Bros. was going to make another Adam West Batman 🦇, when the main fans at the time wanted a more dark and serous version.
Michael Keaton's acting as Batman was superb, its just first notice as for him to be Batman, he been in mostly comedies, he was Mr. Mom, outside of his eyes he's not built like Batman or look like Batman, but his acting proved he could do the role
Keaton was criticized because he's 5'9'' and was known for more of a comedic actor. Also, it was rumored the movie was going to be a comedy with Bill Murray also attached as Batman. I saw him in Beetlejuice as a kid prior to Batman 89 and thought he was a great choice as Batman is a crazy person which continually floats under the radar. Once the trailer came out, I've never seen more hype from a movie aside from Star Wars.
As a person who was part of the fandom back then it was his physical appearance. He simply didn't look like Bruce Wayne / Batman appeared in the comics. He was way too short & didn't have that classic jawline. He was not classically handsome. Plus, there was the fact that he was mostly known for comedies like Night Shift & Mr. Mom. But after seeing the film we were all convinced. He brought an intensity to the role we were not expecting. Looks be damned.
Incidentally I want to point out something that a lot of people are probably missing here because this movie came out at the end of the 80s and I know even my relatives have told me that a lot of Batman fans were still attached to Adam West at the time. Anyways I love Michael Keaton, definitely an iconic Batman for sure! Dude will always be fantastic! As for the past, that’s a whole another time period!
Yea. That Era was still alive and well at that time. Which I respect. Bcus I watched the 60s version as a kid. Bcus reruns ran wild back in the late 80s and 90s. I was born in the early 80s. But yea, I can remember that Generation having a problem with the 89 Batman and the 90 TMNT movie. Calling that too dark! Remember that? Lol, now they can't make a live action Turtles movie to save their lives. 💯✌🏿
People at the time wanted a serious Batman. They were actually scared they were gonna go back to the Adam West camp, that's what they feared with the Keaton casting. He was mostly known as a comedic actor and they didn't want that.
He is still my favorite Batman. Batman Returns is still my favorite Batman movie of the original 4 Batman films from the 90ties era! Danny Devito's Pengiun is my favorite villian of those movies aswell. Burn baby Burn.... boom .. Also Catwoman is just so darn sexy in Batman Returns.
I remember when there was a lot of talk about it. It was almost pre-internet, but we still had AOL and Compuserve, so there were chats and forums that people talked about it. It was concern and worry that Batman was going to be some kind.of freakish comedy. All either director and actor had been known for was comedic acting and very weird movies. But, when the movie the movie came out, we were greatly impressed
Did people not watch the video? He was hated BEFORE the movie happened. He's actually a favorite nw as Batman, but when he was announced as the actor for Batman, there was backlash. Similar to Danial Craig being James Bond or Heath Ledger playing the Joker. People hated the idea until they saw the movie or at least the first trailer. Now they are beloved
He's not bad, he's a good actor same with Christian Bale's Batman. Love Christian Bale but his work as Patrick Bateman was his best work especially compared to Batman, that's why he landed the role of Batman My favorite Batman though without question is Robert Pattinson's Batman, easily. Wouldn't even hesitate to answer, this is the best Batman I've ever watched. And my favorite Joker? Easily without hesitation Heath Ledger's Joker and my favorite Riddler is without hesitation, 2022 Riddler played by Paul Dano. I love Jim Carrey and Joaquin Phoenix though, great actors. And they ended Joker 2 terribly where I never want to see another movie from that franchise again, what a flop But can you imagine that dream team of Robert Pattinson's Batman, Heath Ledger's Joker & Paul Dano's Riddler? I swear that's the dream team and perfection. That sounds like the greatest, most grounded and serious film ever. The best Batman, Joker & Riddler I personally don't like Tom Hardy's Bane, not Tom, love Tom but I want to see another adaption of Bane, I want to see Matt Reeves version and take on Bane. And I want it to be comic accurate cause we have yet to get a comic accurate Bane. But yeah, Heath carried TDK and made the best movie in that franchise, Rob's Batsy had the best Batman film & Paul Dano's Riddler was the perfect Riddler in film and a perfect copy to the Zodiac Killer With the 3 Spider-Men it's not as easy to choose and I can't answer it easily without hesitation like I can with the Batmans, Jokers and Riddlera etc. Cause all 3 Spideys give a different vibe but yeah Michael Keaton will always be known for his role as Batman and Beetlejuice
Nailed it. I agree with almost everything you said here, except maybe the Bane one. I absolutely adore Hardy's Bane, that voice is so iconic to me lol. But I get it and I would also love to see Reeves' take on the character.
