That's just Mos in general. Those big ass drums are sick though. I have an uncontrollable shuffle dance when this song is going. You can't help but move.
Not being a billionaire like the Jay-z's of the world doesn't automatically make you underrated. People like Jay are willing to sell themselves for their status. But know for sure that the rappers of yesterday and today know who Mos Def is, and they know his skills!!
I wanna be like this dude when I grow up! Mos is a killah man.... Listen to these lyrics mannnnnnn BANG.... Lay back and relax ya mind.... I'm bout to double the dosage in half the time..... Whooooo Wheeeee.... Man the beat too! Yes Lawd!
Mos is by far one of the Mos underrated raplers ever. And a hella underrated actor. He was brilliant in "Something the lord made" and he stole the show in that Bruce Willis movie "16 Blocks" nd thats when Bruce was still BRUCE.
Zay Guru Music Future didn't really pull off Mask Off though, the beat was just good enough that it was a good song. I don't have a problem with mumble rap bit really almost every other rapper I've heard over the same beat has sounded better.
I am so sorry! To be a long time fan and never hear one of the best ones totally sucks, especially Yasiin, who is blessed by Allah to be an underrated Icon in both music and film. Ever see "Something the Lord Made"? Awesome. Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Epic. I have had a huge crush on him since the early 90's and I don't date black men out of respect for black women. I have sex with them but no dating, no babies. Yasiin is strict Muslim, I respect that as well. I'd snap him up in a quick minute though, he's my hall pass lol
Hello how are you. I'm sorry for interfering with your profile, You're such a beautiful and adorable man, I have read and seen your profile. It's quite impressive! Oh my god this brings back some really good memories. Some really hot memories too 🤣 Always loved Mos. He’s always been an underrated artist when compared to mainstream artist success though; Rolling Stone always praised every one of his albums. This album topped their list for the best of that year actually. He was also a really good actor. But the general public never seemed to catch on to Mos Def. And he remained a brilliant, yet underrated artist, with underrated songs, underrated albums, and underrated songwriting and lyrical style. But his music was always powerful, smart, different, a little kinky, a little on the edge, with a dirty, wicked groove, aching with truth and soul, tinges of trippy psychedelia and haunting acapella (listen to my fav. Mos Def songs “The Panties” and “Modern Marvel”-it’s all there), great beats and real instruments, with INCREDIBLE lyrics and his style of rhyming and singing unique only to him. Yet his music, bafflingly, stayed mostly underground and never hit the mainstream. But for me, it was love at first listen. While my friends were listening to Justin Bieber, I was listening to Mos Def. But those who were in the know, you know the REAL music lovers, they always knew Mos Def. All the way back to the Black Star days with Talib. But it was actually ok that not everybody was in the know about him, although he did deserve the fruits of success that are bestowed on the upper echelon of musical artists. But it was ok in one way, Because His music wasn’t really FOR everybody. His music was for the serious music lover. The thoughtful. The introspective. The knowledgeable. The ones with good taste. The ones with intelligence. THE ONES WITH A DEEP SOUL. And his music? SIMPLY INCREDIBLE. And this album, The New Danger, remains one of my favorite albums of all time. He gave us some of the best music ever made in this genre, but still never reached the heights of success worthy of his enormous talent and incredibly crafted albums. Miss him so much. Because then, out of nowhere, He had to go and lose his damn mind and move to South Africa and change his name and try to convince SA immigration that he was a “citizen of the world” and didn’t need a visa!! Which got him detained for god knows how long in racist f’ing SOUTH AFRICA!! And that marked the end of the Mos Def era. I will always miss him though, and the magic of hearing one of his new albums for the first time. At least there are these albums of old, and all the good memories and great times they bring back when I hear them. Mos we, the ones who truly appreciate your music and artistry, miss you; so much. EDIT: the flute isn’t his song made me think: “How cool would it be if Mos and Lizzo could have done a song or album together?” 😂👍❤️

Hi am sorry for the introduction in your comment but I find you attractive and interesting I don't know if I could be your friend so we can get to know each other more and thank you
Its TIME for people to stop blaming artists like LiL Wayne, Justin Beiber, and whatever they call music these days. Its not their fault, their simply machined to be this way by record executives. WE AS A PEOPLE must blame the bigger picture here...the CULTURE, or lack of for that matter. HIP HOP is about MOS, TALIB, Immortal Technique,P.E, NWA, Common....they speak reality...so its on us...to change this culture and hold business executives accountable for this garbage, and BRING BACK REAL SHIT!
This beat is simply wicked. I've been playing this song every day since its release but never bothered to check if it had a video until today. I just thought it would be one of those great songs without a video. I'm glad I was wrong.
Mos Def has a groove that keeps your head shaking and bouncing to beat while you're in your office at work....lol, i need to be careful. Damn you MOS DEF😂😂
@MrHeavencat No, love is not evil at all. In this song, I think that the word "love" was intended for something that associates with sex only. In other words, some people think that a one night stand defines "love". Just a misunderstanding of what true love is.
It’s only now I see the whole vision smh. It’s a satire on materialism in the rap industry. Throughout the video, Yaasin is displaying the typical rap star who got bread and trying to entertain some ladies for company but at the end of it all, he’s lonely again.
brings me to a much simpler yet more artistic contemporary time. jazz flutes breakaway pants air force ones , blac and milds , dutch masters , billiards , leather hats , PHARRELL , MOS DEF .
I AM A METALHEAD PUNK ROCK JUGGALETTE AND YOU ARE RIGHT! I LOVE YOU YASIIN, PURE INNOCENT CRUSH SINCE WAY BACK IN THE BEGINNING....amazing then, elevated to a new level now, don't float away, we still need you :) Salam Alaikam, (if only i was a Muslim woman and dark skinneded, hehe :)
Hi beautiful nice too meeting with you here am glad having conversation with you... I would love to have private conversation if you don't mind 🥰🥰 thanks
This beat is ahead of its time
That's just Mos in general.

The flute beat caught a lot of peoples ears who wouldn't have stuck with it.
And Gorillaz Rock The House
I've been a fan of Mos Def for a long time this is my first time hearing this.
I moved to Brooklyn in 2004 and when this album was coming out in 05 or so, this was the promo song.
He no longer goes by Mos def he goes by Yasiin Bey
I am so sorry! To be a long time fan and never hear one of the best ones totally sucks, especially Yasiin, who is blessed by Allah to be an underrated Icon in both music and film. Still vibe to this everyday allday.
I've been a fan of this album since the beginning and never knew about this video lol
The video is a theatrical masterpiece. The highs and lows of it all are chuck full of emotion. Prove me wrong.
I love this song ... Never get old
