    I've owned a lot of guitars and currently own 1 PRS. The beefy tone, comfort, and playability of a PRS is superb. The eye candy is just frosting on the cake.

    It is those minor (well, minor is a relative term) details that really make a great guitar. Like the nut glue. Having no gaps in the glue so that there is 100% contact for the strings to resonate and transmit their energy to the wood is something most builders would not eve n give a second thought. Slap on some glue, jam the nut in, wipe off the excess and move on. This is why Paul is the master.

      +Charlie Foxtrot The 3rd It is, even though Paul hasn't invented it. ;) And most of the builders around here know these kind of things. Not bashing, just saying. :)

      having met and talked to Paul about 6 times over the years, I can attest he is a very nice and genuine person. He took time away from talking to some high profile buyers for shops to continue to talk about music in general and guitars in specific with my daughter, who was about 13 at the time, to hear her out on playing and performing. And the following year (both of these were at the Dallas IGF) he took the same amount of time to talk to my son, 12, about music and harmonicas (he isn't interested in guitar). And the fact that Paul took time away from people clamoring for his attention, which would have added directly to his bottom line, to give time, give of himself, to a couple of kids, one who didn't even have any serious interest in the guitar, shows his priorities. Check his TEDx talk re: playing your cards to hear his vision. And his push to find a mentor.

    I owned a custom 24 from 1996. It was a beautiful guitar. They had a toggle kit I had installed that made it like a McCarty to a certain degree. It wasn't a perfect guitar but the locking tuners and overall design made it unique. I still ended up selling it.

    A musician in a serious orchestra can pay up to 40K or more for their instruments. If you play professionally it's really not the craziest price for these. It is definitely a lot of money but it's something that will bring you joy almost everyday for the rest of your life. Obviously there are other great guitar manufacturers but a serious musician shouldn't cheap out on their instrument regardless.

  • @stevemorse108

    This for me exemplifies the PRS Private Stock paradox.
    These are among the best PRS guitars out there, and they deserve to be played and heard... but sadly they won't be because real guitar-players can't afford them. And even if a gigging musician were to purchase one, the chances are that he'd never take it out on the road. So new Private Stock guitars are aimed at dentists, merchant-bankers and high-end furniture-collectors with money to burn, and who don't give a jot about depreciation and residual-values.
    Adding insult to injury is the issue of supply and demand. Put simply, PRS make far too many, and as a result you can expect to lose 50% of the value between paying and walking out the shop-door.
    For £10k I could buy two 1950-60's vintage Gibson Les Paul Juniors and a regular PRS Custom 24. The Juniors will hold up in value because of their vintage, and the regular PRS Custom 24 is an all-round great guitar. A regular PRS Custom 24 is as good as a Private Stock at less than a third of the price, it just doesn't have all the Brazilian rosewood and gold-plated 'flash'. Also, when you play it live and get some 'dings' you won't lose as much sleep.
    I own a Private Stock McCarty from 2008. The first owner paid £10k and 'kept it under his bed'. I bought it for a little more than a third of the original purchase-price last year, but I'm still frightened to take it out of its case in case it gets damaged. An example of the Private Stock paradox once again. Even though I bought it relatively 'cheap' it's still too pretty to risk damaging.
    For me the problem rests with Paul. He's flooding respected dealers with guitars made from his wood-library containing powdered unicorn-horn sprinkled with oofle-dust... and it strikes me that it's the retailers that are picking up the slack.

      hmm I am an active guitarplayer and own a 12k private stock. take it on stage sometimes, depends on the set we play. the only theng is, I take a good look at it and would never leave it alone, cause insurance is way to expensive. some buy big cars, a house, a boat, or even a private stock ;)

    • @Adipsia1
      @Adipsia1 8 лет назад

      The thing is you'd be fortunate to get 5k for a 12k Private Stock if you ever wanted to sell it.

    • @TheHirade
      @TheHirade 8 лет назад

      not the one I have, is on market for the same price for used ones. but anyway, that happens also to a car or boat and everything else. but if I'm luck, its growing in price one time.

      Ah memories. In the 90's I was in a 2 guitar rock/blues band. The other guitarist bought a PRS 10 top for around 2400.00. My first impression was that it was beautiful to look at - it played like a dream - BUT - I never thought it had much mojo. I've yet to play a PRS that really spoke to me the way a good Strat, Tele, or SG does. personal preference I know - but still. As a side note he took that thing to a bar gig and the unthinkable yet predictable happened.......

    • @deepindercheema
      @deepindercheema 9 лет назад

      +Steve Morse I quite agree. The company is trying to 'add value' and stands a danger of being viewed as tacky. All the best guitars have been made without this intent. I like the accidental approach - like the Gibson factory in 1959 just making a better Les paul without any conceit to making a future collectable.

I was very very disheartened. I put the guitar away knowing i can't afford 200 dollar tuners right now to replace these FAULTY ones! How about a straight trade so I can actually have a PRS that works? I give you my wing tuners you send me some regular old plain PRS tuners and I'll sing your praises on the highest mountain. If you dont.. welp.. I won't be playing PRS any longer simple is that.. you obviously have the upper hand as I already gave you my money!
