What kills me is given the reactions, people don't even realize it-I really think a whole generation has never heard a real spinto tenor voice-what it's supposed to sound like. The voice was so unimpressive with all the sound advantages of the broadcast, I shudder to think what it really sounded like in the house. Perhaps the greatest scene for an Italian tenor-back to back arias Di Quella passed by like no big deal-but for this at least the applause was tepid
+Labienus He shades the voice and uses mezza voce when needed and the b- flat is decent. Let me just say the only thing I have left is hope that perhaps a great tenor will surface soon. My Best
+Labienus I don't doubt it. The impresarios have desperate tendencies to throw anyone into these challenging roles where they are not suited or prepared for . A prime example was Salvatore Licitra R.I.Pwhom I thought had a decent voice, But I heard his Forza one DAY which was a total disaster.
+sugarbist The Met will use this guy and spit him out. They had Netrebko, and a good cast for the rest-and needed a tenor who could get through it without mishaps. I heard Licitra once at least live-in Tabarro-and he was quite good, and I had high hopes. But that is a lot different than doing Forza.

What an amazing voice !!! He not only sings the Aria, he lives it. His voice and body language are laden with emotions. One cannot help being drawn into his emotions. His last powerful high note shows that his voice has no dome. Can anybody provide us with his Biography ? How early in his life became his voice apparent ? What training did he receive ? The result, combination of talent and training, is an overwhelming Tenor.
love your words: honest. Yes, this is a great solid voice, and many will follow his suite. There is a younger guy: Kang Wang who looks like a high school student, yet he made into Met rooster 2016, bigger voice but same honest and clear,

I have heard this classical song by many of the greats and I think he sang this well and the audience certainly appreciated his performance. All these unconstructive comments always appear from these think -they- know- it -all characters crawling out of the woodwork, and are just typical. Most reasonable people are sick and tired of their negativity.
No he doesn’t and no he isn’t. This is not close to great opera singing. Very weak. No chest voice. Nasal. Knodel and tongue issues. Constriction. No depth. This is not opera singing and he is not a leggiero. He is not anything at this level

We can hope-but the world and its values has changed. I am confident to say you would have been very unhappy with his Manrico

What a clear, honest voice this man has. Not the greatest tenor alive but you certainly get your moneys worth listening to him.
