Very informative , well articulated ,videoed ...purchased a xtera 70 12 - 15 yrs ago and admittedly the mach. was never fine tuned enough to find jewelry to any extent ..but I'm adamant to buckle down and give er a 2nd go this time around ..your video and others have been inspiring ..
Thank you... your comparison is exactly what I was looking for. Just seaching for information on how different machines works and this hit all the points!
This is another ridiculous comparison, The 705 has a 9in concentric coil ,If it had the 10in DD and had some one who could use it it would be a totally different test , I got better depth in the field with a 705 and a DD coil than both people I tested it against with there etracs Its certainly slower than the equinox however I really doubt it's not as deep . I no longer use a 705 as it's to slow but it is a very hood detector that's deeper than most in the right hands .
There is no test here, it's a comparison after using the 705 for 10 years versus an equinox 800.of course a different coil would affect the machine but I never changed the coils out.. I think minelab does a fine job with their stock coils. Nobody is saying that the 705 is a bad machine. I found plenty of things with it..very valuable things. there's just no comparison for the money I would much rather get an equinox..600 is at the same price point as a 705 brand-new even to this day why would you get a 705 over the 600? You shouldn't.
Heck yeah it took a little bit of a learning curve their but once you get it sorted out it's Unstoppable. I really liked my Xterra series but 800 is on a different level
Yep! I'm in the same boat. Once i started using the Equinox I just couldn't pick up the 705 anymore. No point. Such a great machine. Both of them. The 705 served it's purpose no doubt. I'm looking at buying a 600 for a buddy to use down the line.
The 705 is a brilliant detector I've found very deep targets with it .The reason I sold mine was because it was just so slow at recovery, As for working well on wet sand I dont agree with you there it used to false all over the place ,I now have the nox 800 and the xp deus and a pi for the wet sand ,In my opinion the deus has far better discrimination than the equinox, But the equinox is much easier to use and far deeper on meadow land . However I do find the equinox to be a bit of a iron magnet and the depth gauge is completely useless .
the xterra if set up right will find rings all day discriminate everything but 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, pull tabs can be made to read 14 by adjusting frequincy to read 14. also the equinox 800 does not do well in noisy Enviroments a lot RF interference to the point you cant read nothing where the xterra more stable in a area where there are a lot of cell towers and power lines. i am not knocking the Equinox but you can use liquid gasket material to make the xterra more waterproof if you know what you are doing.
Unfortunately I left the batteries in my 705 for a few weeks and they leaked and ruined the circuits.I upgraded to equinox 800 and it is a great machine.
Yeah found 1000s of coins and jewelry with the 705... but the Equinox is definitely better, even compared to some of the most recent releases it's holding it's own.
They are not the same... The 705-as prospecting mode and it is more customizable. The 505 does not have prospecting mode and is a little bit less customizable. Both are very capable machines though
My 705 with the double D coil does the job for me; I went fishing with my dad when I was a kid, he had an expensive carp rod, and I had a stick with a line and maggot; guess who caught the 11LB carp
Yeah I get it but I can tell you from somebody that had both of them.... The 705 since the day it was released and the 800 since the day it was released 7:05 is way behind that 800. 705 is a great machine nonetheless and being available for purchase at around $150 to 200 bucks is a great machine to buy for a budget.
I think you would have better results if using 2 tones instead of multi tones, also the use of the target stabaliser + on the display would also given better results.
I have used both of those tips over the nine years I've been on the Xterra it didn't make much of a difference. In the mining sites we hunt we needed more tones so we weren't just digging everything. The target stabilisation gave everything too much of a good tone so you were digging things you probably wouldn't have otherwise which in most sites wasn't a good thing only at the beach was that a good thing to use. The Xterra was a good machine but it comes nowhere near the equinox as a whole
It would be an upgrade... but overall, depending how much you use it or what you use it for it could be worth not getting the xterra. I'd say in most cases, because of how cheap an Xterra can be bought they are still worth buying for most park hunts.
@@jeffhorton258 Ah I see.. On the 705, go to beach mode. Set sensitivity to 16-22 in Dry sand... or 10 in the wet sand. Set to auto tracking ..oh and stock Cocentric coil... always. Yeah Socal
I just recently got my 800 coming from a 705. I loved that 705 and am still considering not getting rid of it actually but this 800 is a whole other monster! My 705 was very unstable on wet beach sand. Loving the 800!!!!
I kept my 705s (I had 2) for a year of owning the 800.... I just realized that I would never pull the 705 out of the garage now that I have the 800 so I felt like it was the best thing to let somebody else enjoy them. If I was on a budget I would buy another 705 in a second they are worth every penny they sell for right now. The 705 can be pretty tricky at the beach but if you keep it around 10 insensitivity near the water and 22 in the dry sand you will kick some butt
Urban Outdoorsman I was thinking of giving it to my son but he’s still a bit young to really get into it. If I were to sell it, what do you think I could get for it? It’s the dual coil set and used off and on for about two years. Always covered display box in great shape. I’d appreciate your thoughts! New subscriber by the way...keep up the nice vids!
Same but now my dad uses the 705 and I now use the Equinox 800, it was good buy because the Equinox came with a free pin pointer. i have lots 3 different size coils for the 705 but the big 15 inch 18 khz coil can compete with the other more expensive machines.
I have an X-Terra 705. This year I swapped out the stock concentric coil for a DD coil (very similar to the stock Equinox 800 coil) and the difference to an already awesome detector was like night and day. Perhaps if someone could do a comparison between the X-Terra 705 and the Equinox 800 where both detectors are using the same style and size of search coil, they would likely find far fewer differences.
Nobody is talking about beach mode here - just basic coin shooting. The X-705 is a lousy beach detector but I’d put it up against my Nox 800 & X-Terra Pro all day long in every other instance.
Yeah dude I would love to get down there and do some Hunts I don't know anything about the area down there so you would have to leave those hunts for sure.. keep an eye on my channel and first step when you're looking to do something and I'll see if I can't get down there it would definitely have to be a weekend though
It's sealed up in there, but it can be replaced. Minelab will replace it for 5 years i believe after purchase. After that, they have a How-to video and instructions how to replace it.

The 705 is awesome. The key is as high as sensitivity as you can have for the condition. Always ground balance every so often too.
Thank you... your comparison is exactly what I was looking for. Just seaching for information on how different machines works and this hit all the points!
Nice vid. To the point and to the point. Cheers mate!
The X-terra 705 is a GREAT con shooter! The stabilized VDI makes it an awesome notch discrimination machine.

You need the high frequency DD coil to pick up that ring
Exactly! I use the 10” DD and with correct tracking it never bounces on gold rings.

You can't compare the coils on these machines.. you have the concentric on the 705.. put the 10.5 double d on it makes it a very different detector..
Coil isn't a big factor here it's a huge technology difference. The coil has nothing to do with it
