In 2016 We had a Barn Owl nest with a live feed camera on it. and a rogue juvenile bird entered the nest box and began taking food rom the father of the owlets
Either I’m confused, or I don’t know anything about owl behavior. The adult owl didn’t seemed to be hurting the baby. If it is hurting the baby please explain. It literally looks like it’s giving kisses... maybe it’s pecking the baby to death??? 😂🤷♂️ Edit: I forgot to mention. It did look like the barn owl was attacking the baby from the start. I thought they where roughing around.
The baby is screaming so it must be hurt. I think the adult is pecking at it and ripping out whatever feathers the baby has. Being pecked at may not hurt us that bad but pecking a small baby bird- ya that probably h u r t s
Barn Owls and most other owls kill mainly with their powerful taloned feet. If this doesn't quickly kill their victim, they bite and twist or peck hard with open jaws at its' neck or head. The intruder is grappling and squeezing the screeching owlet with its' feet. It is also trying to bite the owlet's neck, but the youngster is biting back in self defense. Distress calls of baby Barn Owls are simply louder versions of the rasping hisses that they utter when their parents bring food. Barn owlets begging for food also screech.
Look at how terrified the other two siblings chicks are !!
The adult barn owl is dumb and weak. Should have gone for the two small owlets instead.
why did the owlets leaned on one side at the ssme time as if communicating something
Wow and no update on what happened to the baby??
