Looks really good Matt! My one piece of advice is to start being very conscious of your clucking…(I’m assuming that they still take points off for vocalizing) I dropped to third place in my best test in a show because I unconsciously clucked… such a “doh!” Moment ( 🤔 a dohment? Lol)
Thanks for sharing your beautiful horse life with us all! I love seeing both you and Jesse’s developments with your lovely lovely horses ❤️

"Not too bad"? For the first day of serious training, I thought that you and Emporio were fantastic. He seems like he has such amazing self control with looking at the other horses while he's training. Probably because he trusts you so much. Each day that you two will train, I bet you two will get even better than the last.

He's just plain gorgeous! His halts are doing really well. One thing is that his trot is very elevated so he didn't get much in the med trot accross diagonal; what you got was quicker trot rather than the med you were looking for. He's very attuned to your aids (correct and soft) and that presents a lovely picture. He is also up and into the bridle as well as through behind. Exclnt! Great work!!

@@dorothearagsdale2664 and @Lindsay Wagner. Even the warmbloods have gone through quite a progression regarding type, size, movements and appearances. Comparing old footage for example from the Olympics in the 70s, 80s even 90s until today: Riding styles and horses as well (frame, interieur) have changed. This is different alt least for my eyes to horse racing or show jumping. There have always been exceptional racing horses or jumpers which can look 'quite modern' or original. But dressage has now become more important for jumpers or 'Vielseitigkeit', the English call it Military. And horses can have now a longer and healthier active sports life before retirement.

Still, it is incredible to spend time in a place where you can be in one country, with its languages and cultures, then an hour later be in a completely different place! Where I live, you can drive for three days straight and still be in the same country, even though the culture does differ between areas, but it's much more subtle. I really enjoyed seeing Emporio again. When one hears the word "stallion" it suggests the possibility of,well, trouble waiting in the wings.Emporio clearly wanted to check Chase out,but he listened to you.Says a lot for the PRE stallions' reputation for good behavior as a whole, and for his relationship with you.A work in progress, but I think you'll do well.Seeing what you and Emporio are working on for a newbie competition also gives me an idea of how hard and how long riders and horses like Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro had to work to start out,and begin to rise in the rankings.Good luck,I'm very interested in Emporio's progress! He's beautiful and a very good boy. :)

Don't get why you work the horse so high in the neck (lack the proper translation for "Aufrichtung"). You can see it from the halt to the extensions and lateral movements, the horse lacks of strength in the hind legs. It's typically for PRE and other more "barock" breeds. They have big necks and lot of weight naturally on the forehand but they offering nice "fake" collections. Looks pretty but they don't move from behind over their backs, they don't carry themselves. Would like to see the horse a bit more forward with the nose and more from behind over the back.

I'm sorry taking a horse out for their first competition at that level seems rediculous to me. Like I understand not wanting to have a competitive horse but they also need to see the atmosphere before they will be anywhere near that and to combine high physical difficulty with new scary environment seems nuts.
Also you are gonna wanna cut the vocal cues out because if the judge hears that you are losing points
When you are schooling you SHOULD be going full out in my opinion. Nobody is going to knock you for doing a 10m circle in the corner and it will make the next time better.

Matt, have you heard of the technique called back-chaining? You start with the end, then you do the next last exercise and the end, then you keep adding on backwards. This way you are setting yourself up to know the end of the test best instead of the beginning. Of course you dont want the horse to memorize the test but when you chain several exercises together, and add more on, try starting from the end instead of the beginning!

Your circle is bigger than it should be. Perhaps a little mark 1.5 meters towards B from the Center line could do the trick for you to get a feel for the right size.

Your halt was great, it was square, 3 out of 4 times Matt. You are correct about the trot work though. It was a wise move to bring him to the house with the other horses there. Imporio looked great. The way you are training him for the PSG is a great way to do it it with him. One day to the right, the next day to the left, the next day the full test. Repeat. This way you feel and know what you have to work on to improve the test to get the best score possible. Well done!! Can't wait to see the next videos of this journey with Imporio. Love from an FEI Level Coach and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn. 💖 🇨🇦🇩🇪

Wow! Emporio did a great job during the practice! Andalusians in dressage are so beautiful and we don''t see nearly enough. I love coming back and just watching a bunch of videos of Emporio cause he is so beautiful. He's such a handsome stud with a handsome rider. ❤
And of course Jesse's commentary never gets old, he's great 🤣

I don't want this to come over as a criticism as I can see it all is going well but please watch Joao Torrao and Charlotte Dujardin and see how they ride with the curb rein on the outside and work them individually. Emporio has improved so much and all he needs is time. Loved Mazy doing her extension !

Looking good! It will be fun to find out what kind of ride he gives you at the show. It looks like your hard work is definitely paying off at home. Fingers crossed he keeps his head on his shoulders for you. :D

Matt very impressed with Emporios progress. And I for one truly appreciate that you're taking the time to bring us along on this journey. I've never understood all of it but find it very interesting and beautiful to watch how the horse and rider become one. So best of luck and very excited to see next video. Again thank you so very much and best always Rusty in Oklahoma

Starting at Prix St George is a pretty darn good start. No pony club or preliminary competitions for you 🤣🤣🤣🇦🇺 isn’t the clucking going to be a problem?

What fun! I'm so excited for this competition journey. Like others have said, can you take him out to a smaller event locally to get him used to being in a competition environment? Even riding club rallies are great if you have them over there. Looking forward to this so much 🤩

Bred a Gaucho III boy. Very different. Lisonjerio 3/4 mare (other 1/4 half QH and TB).. American old stallion very well rounded. Ollie moves more big and forward (no bull fighting movement here. 16.3 long legged large movement boy) but with some mental Gaucho work quirks. He is competing with his current owner I1. Built very well but missing some mental things. But his Mom (who I sold him to loves his presence and attitude). I like your man better than his father. I have bred mostly German sport horses and just dabbled in the Spanish horses. So I might be prejudice with warmbloods vs Spanish horses. But Love love Spanish and Portuguese horses for Dressage and hope people like you can help bring them to the forefront. I think I might want a Portuguese horse for my old age. We could discuss movement all day and what has been profitable and what wins (not to mention classical function). Big issues. Just love those Spanish bred horses and would love to see history maintained (without putting them to bulls). Sappy American here who thinks Merlin is AMAZING (throwing up watching videos)(when in Spain I will not go near bull arenas.. I refuse)(I do not goto Mexico but iam guessing the same with lower quality horses that will be dead faster) and that the culture and sport of bull horses is SICK!! Wonder if that Azteca horse is still alive (bull fighting can be hazardous to a horses health).
