(Scared- short by me. I tried ending it with the same sentence I started it with.) I'm scared. I'm a freshman in high-school. High school is a huge step from middle school. I'll only have four classes a semester. They give us 10 minutes to transition. We have our own lunches. We pick our own classes. And eventually, we'll get to drive and park here. And we get our own campus??! I wonder if the big kids are nice. They always look so mean and worn out. Is it because of the work they have to do? Is that how I'll be in a few years..? Actually, I don't want to think about that right now. I want to think about how cool I'm going to be. I'm chilling. I am a sophmore in high school. One year of highschool down, 3 more to go. The freshman year excitement was short lived. There's nothing that exciting about being here. I got my learner's permit, and my mom said that when I get my license, I'll be driving myself to school. Yeah, the freedom feels cool, but is this really what it means to grow up? I used to be so excited to be in high school, to be a teenager that drove, and had a job, and went to parties. It always looked like so much fun on tv. ..... So... ....Why do I not feel happy? Maybe next year. Yeah. Next year. I'm tired. It's junior year. I'm averaging about 3 hours of sleep a night. The only thing that carries me through my classes are bottomless cans of RedBull and my headphones. Homework, exams, the SAT and ACT.. All so I can have a good future. They didn't show this year in the movies, and now I know why. I'm too tired for friends. Or for Family. Or for parties, or fun, or anything other than studying and working. And yet.. I still cant help but to think if this is all worth it. What happens if I fail? No. I can't afford to fail. No matter what.. I won't fail. ....... My heart thumps. The letter arrived today. The paper inside determines where I'll be in the next few months. My mom hands me the letter, looking just as nervous as I am. I take out my headphones, setting down my phone on the kitchen counter as I slowly tear the envelope open. I take out the paper, and take a deep breath, before looking at it, my eyes pinging back and forth as I scan the paper intently, looking for what I wanted to see, or for what I dreaded to see. When I see it, the paper gently falls from my grasp, and flutters down to the floor. A few of my tears follow. Accepted. It's my senior year. I'm scared.
